Taking the QM2 from Cape Town to Perth.  Going several days early so any suggestions for things to do in Cape Town would be appreciated.

Depends,  if you are City people then stay in either camps bay or waterfront. The red hop on off bus that does the long route via Kistenbosch is good day out. You can spend a day in city centre , castle , company gardens and just taking in atmosphere.  Robben island of course.  You could arrange a day out private tour to vineyards , very reasonable any good hotel will sort it out.

If you want to get out of city, the coastal drive from Gordon's bay to Pringle bay is in top 5 world wide coastal drives,  carry on to see penguins at Bettys bay , far less crowded than boulders beach. If you like food and wine then head up Hemel and Aarde valley stay overnight in vinyard.  Alternative Frankshoek a bit touristy,  but the wine tram that stops at 10 vineyards, is a full day of eatingand drinking.

If you head north, Langebaan is one of the best kite and windsuring spots in world.  Paternoster is a fishing village come foodie town. Head inland to Reibeck Kastel and Tulbach

I wonder how many can remember the days when Cunard sailed into Capetown in daylight?

Thanks all for the tips.  We're staying in the V&A waterfront area.  Going to a game reserve for a day tour.  I'll definitely look into the above suggestions.  Cheers.

We highly recommend Hank Daries of Ulungele tours  https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g312659-d3516247-Reviews-Ulungele_Tours_Safaris-Cape_Town_Central_Western_Cape.html

we toured with him several days last year and really enjoyed our time in Cape Town.  We thought about several DIY options but would have missed out on so much without him.  We will definitely have him as our guide on future trips.

( it appears his website is down but I know he is on facebook and also answers email promptly)

Hey there!

With regards to Cape Town, such a good idea to go a few days ahead of time- there is just so much to do there, both in the city, and the greater surrounding areas.

Depending on your interests, you could go to wineries, safari parks outside of the city, go up table mountain, or head to Simons Town south of the city to see the penguins there.

Down by the waterfront, the V and A Waterfront is really well done, and you can also take the ferries out to Robben Island from there.

For historically significant areas within the city, I'd recommend the District Six Museum and Bo Kaap.

Enjoy Cape Town!
