P&O's "cabin ammendment" pricing

Can anyone explain in more detail what " cabin ammendment " relates to .

 

After scrolling through P&O's web site to possibly book a cruise and after selecting a cabin the price for the cabin may have either an increase or reduction in the price under " cabin ammendment " .

 

Any reply would be appreciated  .

Cabins have different grades, even if they are identical in style and size, depending on where they are situated. Cabins midship are the most expensive, followed by Mid Aft/Mid forward and the lowest priced are Forward or Aft cabins. There are sometimes other reasons (eg deck) for different prices but this is the main one.

The headline price will always be for the cheapest available at that grade.

So , is this a way for P&O to get even more money out of the cruising public by charging a supplement on top of the cabin price for midships  . After all there is no difference in service

for the same cabin on the same deck .

Every cruise line operates the same system, and charges more for what they perceive as better placed cabins.

Same with most cruise lines, midships is a more desirable place for some people therefore has a price premium.

It has always been this way. They have just altered the way to see the cabins online which shows it in a different way. All cruise lines charge extra for the cabins in the more popular parts of the ship.

No it’s just some cabins will and always have cost more due to their position and which deck they are on. There is no catch if you want a better position more suitable to your preferences, it will come at a cost. All cruise brands operate the same pricing system so P&O are not an outlier by doing this. Usually the cheapest cabins are forward , then aft, then mid forward/aft and mid ships the most expensive
