Quantum Stuck in Seattle?

Any idea why Quantum of the seas is at anchor in the middle of Elliott bay today?  It was supposed to go to Alaska for the last cruise of the year but is currently in the middle of the harbor off Seattle causing delays as ferries and other traffic have to yield to it

Unless there was a mechanical failure that required her to drop anchor immediately, ships are not allowed to anchor in "fairways", or the shipping channels used to transit the port, even by ferries, so I sort of doubt that other traffic is involved.  And, no ship has to "yield" to an anchored vessel, any more than a car needs to yield to a parked car.

She is literally sitting in the direct path of the Bainbridge ferry route.

From what I see on marinetraffic, and a chart of Elliott Bay, Quantum is anchored well within the "general anchorage" area off Duwamish Head, and south of the "published" Bainbridge ferry route.  She is athwart the Seattle-Bremerton ferry route, but that route transects the anchorage area, and ships are free to anchor anywhere in the anchorage area, but are usually directed to a specific spot by the harbor master and pilot, for a protected anchorage like this.

I believe she was waiting out a storm further north and they are going to be missing Ketchikan tomorrow (I'm told that guests were informed in advance). She is now on her way.

She has been gone for awhile now.  Interesting to see a cruise ship just sitting there.  Mother Nature has not been kind these  past few days.

Was on this sailing, the stay in Seattle was due to the weather, once we got moving we had pretty rough seas for 2 days.

 

Casino remained closed while anchored, but retail did open up which I was surprised to see.
