Can you get off the ship after checking in on embarkation day?

Sorry if this has been answered before, but the search function was no help.

We board Vista in LA (World Cruise Terminal - San Pedro).  The terminal is next to the Battleship USS Iowa museum.  Our departure time is 7 pm so my husband might like to see the ship.

Leaving our luggage and going to the museum before check in won't be feasible because we will have our personal item tote bags (meds, electronics, etc) that we can't cart around with us.

Does anyone know if we can get off and re-board later or is that not allowed?
