Which side of the ship?

Does it really matter whether you choose port or starboard? In the past we've been more interested in being on a low deck and midships, but should we also be thinking of which side?  I'm currently looking at a number of cruises and would value your opinion.

The Norwegian Fjords which also visits Denmark 

Rome to Trieste or variations on a theme.

If sun isn’t an issue, check where the smoking deck is as smoke can waft around.

If it is a round trip then it makes little difference as you will get the sun, maybe, going one way or the other.

 

If the idea is to see land whenever possible then it will depend on which direction the ship is sailing.

We really don't pick a particular side of the ship normally.

 

We do select a cabin that is open to the sun and not near or have a overhang to block the sun.
