Planning first Alaska cruise May 2024. Is the 4th of May to early a start, should I be looking at later in the month?

We went this year May and couldn’t have been happier. Stayed in Vancouver 1-6 may then cruised vancouver return may 6-20. Spectacular and recommend highly.

As a hobby photographer, I travel to Alaska late April/first week of May to photograph the new humpback whale calves arriving from Hawaii, new eagles learning to fly, still snow on the higher peaks, lowest prices for hotels and flights, few children, and cheapest cruise prices.

Note that the first weekend in May is the Vancouver marathon with higher prices for just about everything.

We just booked a mid-May 2024 cruisetour.  We have been to Alaska 4 times before in the later summer months.  Wanted to see more snow in May.  Happy to read your comments to confirm our thinking.  Beautiful pictures.

We have been on a lot of Alaska cruises.  This year we did one departing April 30th, mostly we tend to book mid August onward, but will do May again some day,

Seeing the extra snow was spectacular.  We were lucky enough to go into Glacier Bay and it was stunning seeing the snow right to the waterline.  Also did the White Pass in Skagway.  Lack of leaves on the trees only enhanced the beauty of this excursion, and the heated rail cars made it very cozy.

There are pros and cons to which departure month you choose, all im saying is we would not hesitate to book May again
