Credit Card

Recommended Posts

I don't know much about it. But I have read on here that you cannot use a Visa gift card to set up your account. Because it doesn't have your name on it. What was stated, was that you could use it settle your onboard charges at the end of the cruise at guest services.

I have no idea if that is true, or if it has changed since the post was written.

I have paid for Cruise Planner purchases, and have paid cruise fare with VISA gift cards.  I have used various combinations of gift cards from $20 to $500 on various cruises.  All in all, I've used gift cards to pay for significant parts of 5 cruises since COVID.

Expect some problems.

-- Some cards will incur a 20% hold, meaning for a $100 gift card, the maximum charge that can be paid to RCI is $81.33 (of course one can wait 45 days for the hold to expire, then charge another 13.89, but that gets ridiculous real fast).

-- Refunds of Cruise planner purchases, gratuities, port fees, etc. will go to which ever card RCI choses.  If the gift card has expired between when it is used for a purchase, and when RCI refunds to the card it gets interesting (again real fast).  Also consider that RCI is not very prompt about issuing refunds.
