newyorkjameson Posted June 13 #1 Share Posted June 13 If you purchased a piece of furniture in Europe can you bring it back to the cruise ship. I understand there would be a fee but curious if anyone has an experience with this. Thank you in advance for any responses.
Rare ColeThornton Posted June 13 #2 Share Posted June 13 Personally, I've never heard of this being done. What cruise line are you going on? It might behoove you to give them a quick call.
Rare Essiesmom Posted June 13 #3 Share Posted June 13 How big is it, and where are you going to put it in your cabin? EM
ldubs Posted June 13 #4 Share Posted June 13 Interesting question. I'm following. 100% pure guesswork (and where I would place a bet). Something relatively small you could carry in a box, why not. Something larger requiring special handling or storage, probably not.
leaveitallbehind Posted June 13 #5 Share Posted June 13 (edited) No knowledge from direct experience but from our cruising experience I would guess it could not be easily done as the staterooms are very limited in space and the holds on the ship are typically filled with provisions for the cruise and are not typically available for passenger cargo applications. And if they could, if the furniture is of any significant size they would likely establish a charge for doing so. I would think whomever you would be purchasing it from would be able to arrange for shipment to the US more easily than you trying to bring it back with you. But I think the best suggestion made so far is to contact the cruise line in question and have the discussion with them. I think that would provide the definitive answer. chengkp75 Posted June 13 #6 Share Posted June 13 Unfortunately, the passenger cargo hold went out with the QE2. Each passenger got 100 cu. ft. of cargo (if I remember correctly from when we did this in the 70's) in the hold. You would likely have to declare this for customs when disembarking in the US.

If you are thinking about anything much more substantial than an inflatable chair (carried aboard uninflated, of course, so you can slip it under your bed or on the top shelf of your closet) you are out of luck.
