Civitavecchia train station disabled access?

Hi. I don't know if this is the right board to post this on, but I'll try.

My wife and I are on the Anthem of the Seas on 19th July to the Med. We are hoping to go into Rome by train, but I use a powerchair, (It does fold up) and I'm not sure if the shuttles from the port are wheelchair friendly, also the train station, and the train to Rome. Iv'e tried searching but can't find anything definate about them. I am able to walk short distances.

Any advice please?

It has been 7 years but back then neither the station or the train a station were very accessible. There are stairs to get to some tracks. There might be accessable trains, maybe the high speed, I took a local train, the local trains had steps up. Check the schedule as high speed trains have lifts. Also the shuttle from the ship then only took us the port entrance. We had to walk to the train station. There were no taxis. I would into a car service like Rome in Limo. We took the cruise line transfer once and we took that once from Rome to the port and Rome In Limo we shared a limo with CC membesr from our roll call.

Thanks for your reply Charles. Its not looking very good for the train into Rome. We had planned to use the Hop on Hop off bus tours from Rome Termini. I did an online chat with someone from the Big Bus Company, and they said their buses are wheelchair friendly, so its only the train we have to worry about.

When folded, are you able to carry or lift your powerchair? 

 

* From the ship, there are 3 ways to get to the train station in Civitavecchia:

 

1. Free shuttle. Leaves when the shuttle is full. Drops you off at the port gate, and still a long walk to the train station.

 

2. Bus. Takes you directly from the ship to the train station. 

 

3. Shuttles...smaller than the bus but cost the same...I think it was 7€/person.

 

You can purchase your train tickets at the tobacco shop or inside the train station. (We usually buy the BIRG ticket, about 14€, gives us access to the train and metro in Rome.)

There is an elevator to each platform it is to the right  side past of the stairs on platform 1 and there is one to each platform from the tunnel between the platforms - so no need to use any stairs many people miss the elevator as they go down the stairs and don't think the elavators are after the staircase....

Thanks for your replies. The information and photos are fantastic. They clearly show what I need to do.

 

The Powerchair folds up, and I think with a bit of work, I could get down the steps. I'm sure DW will help me.🫠

Yes no problem at all! The train staff is very helpfull too!

It's been a few years, but every hoho bus was NOT accessible. It seemed every other one was. They (smartly) use manual ramps that pull out from underneath the bus. Space for one wheels user per bus.

How was your trip to the Mediterranean?  We’re going a cruise to Italy, Greece, and Turkey in October on the Odyssey OTS.  I have an electric folding wheelchair (Falcon).  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
