Tour recommendations Thailand and Malaysia

Hi,

 

We are going on a cruise stopping at Phuket, Penang & Port Kelang. There will be 10 adults and 1 child (8) and we were thinking we may do local tours rather than the expensive ship tours. We know the risks and would be looking for 1/2 day tours to manage the risk. 

I have reviewed Viator but am looking for recommendations from people who have actually used the tour companies and found them reputable.

When in Singapore about 18 years ago, I found it difficult to find tours in Malayasia. Ended up taking a bus to Malacca.

If no luck here, I suggest you try Trip Advisor which is a Cruise Critic partner.

We have just grabbed a cab/ van with driver at the port after organising itinerary, timings and price. Just make sure you negotiate all three before committing. This was done this at all 3 ports. Research things to do and see at each port (tripadvisor) and compare with ships tours  and viatour for ideas and price guides.

We have used toursbylocals in Penang and had great contact with them, it was a few years ago so can’t remember exactly who we had 

but had a great tour with them.

Same here, lots of drivers looking to take you.  Do be very clear about where you want to go and set price before you even enter the vehicle.

Local currency preferred over cards.
