NCL...Spirit 3/26...just wasn't for us.

Not really, but I wasn't the one who wrote the Spirit's cabins were small. I wrote initially that size is relative, then posted some areas of various ships.

The Majesty's cabins are small in comparison to most modern ships. They are even small compared to the Dream, Wind, and Crown, ships built about the same time.

The beauty of Cruise Critic is we have a venue to comunnicate. I as I'm sure you don't agree with all posters. But we listen/read and take note.

Let me cruise I'm happy. I will talk to the world if they let me. Inside, ocean view, or whatever. Big/Little. I did get to tour the Garden Villa on the Dawn. WOW, WOW.WOW I would not know to act if I had that.

Smiles and a very happy holiday to you and yours:)

With all due respect does all that matter? My fingers hurt for all your typing.

It DOES matter! All due respect, I have to say that I depend on Electricron and his technical expertise. He sums things up and seems to have the entire World Wide Web at his fingertips. It might seem like overkill to you until YOU are the one looking for the answer. Between Electric Ron and Raoul Fiebeg on www.cruise-chat.com I know I am going to get THE answer to whatever question I have.

I am the one who seconded the impression that the Spirit's cabins were small.

How did the smaller cabin on the Spirit affect your cruise in a negitive way?

I am sure I am gonna get in trouble here, but I don't really care.....

Ok, guys, first off, can we agree to just dis-agree, please? Yes, I agree with Wally that the cabin is just a place that I lay my head when I am too tired to be doing any of the other activites... But.. I can also see how to some who want a chance to "escape people" (please notice the quotes) would desire a bigger cabin to feel more comfortable in.

I also agree that Electricron (and sorry if I spelled that wrong) has a lot of good advise, and is able to pull out information that I have never seen before, and I appreciate that, but, he is not the only one. And, I have had my disagreements with Electricron (remember the whole stupid tubing thing).

As in "real life" (again notice the quotes), vacation is all about perception. We all see things differently in life, even when we go on vacation. One person's perfect vacation can be a total disaster to someone else. We are all here to present our OWN views of our vacations, and let people read those reviews and take from them what they will. I hope that we all agree that no one on here is trying to portray that they are an "expert" and that thier view is the only one. I really think that there are times when we all need to agree to disagree.

And that is just *MY* opinion. You all are free to have your own opinions.

Just go out there and try to have fun on any vacation you have, wether it is a cruise, or a trip to a small town village. Remember, it is a day that you are not at work. :D

Wally,

My feelings exactly...we usually go for the inside and that way we can cruise more often. A cruise is what you make it, I just love getting away and being on the ocean. If I don't have to cook or clean up, I'm happy!

Our 5/7 cruise on the Spirit we will have a balcony only because we got a good upgrade. You really don't spend much time in your cabin but I do find when I have a balcony I do tend to spend more time in the room.

Have a good holiday all...

To the person who won't go on ncl again. I'm sorry for your loss. It looks like you are pretty loyal to royal caribbean from the other cruises you have been on and the 2 cruise lines are like apples and oranges. When i want to go on 4 cruises a yr I go on ncl.Prices are better, excellent casinos

and i have never had anything but fantastic service and have sailed them 9 of my 28 cruises. Going on the spirit 6/3. I like royal caribbean but find them a bit more stuffy and less fun overall. their food is good and ships are not quite so gosh but for the $ differance in most cases I would always choose ncl. I seem to meet the most wonderful progressive minded people on ncl and always have a great time.

I'm glad as you reiterated that you had a good time. my first cruise 28 cruises ago was disembarked with me saying i would never cruise again and here i am and it is now the only way i vacation. In the event you have a chance to get a free cruise on ncl please dont turn it down...GIFT IT TO ME....Thanks for your review( and ncl does tend to have small cabins, but

usually very nice)

I think configeration is more important than size when you are traveling with your kids or have more than 2 in a cabin. We had a mini suite on the Dawn and the 2 boys shared a fold out couch which was way too small for the two of them, but the cabin was spacious.

On CCL they had both a fold down bed from ceiling and couch to sleep on...though last cruise, my youngest (14) was wayyy too tall for the couch and his feet stuck out the end to be hit by anyone heading for the bathroom :( .

We have booked two cabins for our upcoming cruise and I am sure all 4 of us will be happy having our own beds and won't even notice cabin size!!:)

Yes, everyone's perceptions are different when it comes to vacation.

We spend about 6-8 weeks a year on St. John. We cook, we clean, we do laundry...but we are in paradise. There is no room service, no formal nights, no entertainment. Dress up night is wearing something clean..(and I'm not kidding!!!).. One day we might go fishing with friends who have a boat, another day we lie on the beach and sometimes my husband works when we go there (home repairs for friends there)

Friends came with us one year and they were horrified for what we called vacation, they called roughing it. BUT...it is a different kind of trip. We do like cruising but we also like our laid back time on the island.

As a kid, our family vacations were from NY to the Jersey Shore and we thought that was paradise. Now I live here and tourist season here is anything but a vacation. Too many people, too crowded in summer etc...

Just another note..

Some people are happy in an inside cabin and say that they don't spend much time there anyway.

Again, it's preference.

When I cruise, part of the experience is having the balcony and enjoying it and I won't go unless I have one. For me, that's part of the cruise time that I enjoy the most. Every cruise is also different. Some people said they wouldn't waste their money on a balcony to Alaska but we found that we used it just as much as we did in the Caribbean...it was cool, not cold and it was a plus that we were able to keep wine and champagne on the balcony in a bucket of ice and it was fine...

I did think the NCL balcony room (11028) was tiny compared to the other ships I've been on. Maybe the configuration on other ships was better...

Now in my opinion a balcony in Alaska is a must. No debate at all. To enjoy the views while cruising the glaciers as you listen to a naturalist from the bridge on the television in your cabin as you with wide eyes witness the beauty and perhaps take pictures is a must.

...and even though I'm a Carib lover....my favorite cruise of all was on Serenade of the Seas to Alaska..there was nothing more breathtaking than the scenery that was endless..it almost made me cry...it was that beautiful...I'd do it again in heartbeat.....

I hope the music from Twilight Zone was a "good thing.."

I could have stayed on that cruise forever...

I refer to the feeling I had. Like I was some where so very different. Like a dream. So quite, so different, so beautiful, so untouched. :)
Hikini...you are so correct about beauty being in the eye of the beholder and how so many people can have so many different opinions on ships.

I booked Celebrity's Galaxy after cruising on Celebrity's Millenium and I read reviews on the CC boards that said that the Galaxy was the best ship in Celebrity's fleet. Needless to say, I was disappointed and although I had a suite on Galaxy, the overall cruise experience was much better on Millie.

People just have different tastes and expectations.
I hope the same doesn't happen with the Spirit, because the Dawn was great
But, I know I will have a great time even though the ship may not provide the same expectations I found on the Dawn.

Don ~

You always state it so well.

We've only sailed the Dawn and Jewel so anxiously await your Spirit review. (Greenie did like it, overall).

I just have to get on the Spirit!
Decor sounds wonderful as does the staff.

Have a wonderful cruise...I know you will;)

I just read your post...just came back from the Dawn 11 night western tour and loved it.... the Spirit is a sister ship to the Dawn but can see differences...we did have a balcony cabin and was not as big as the CCL cabin we had but enjoyed it......we did have a refrigerator in our cabin and had all the ice we wanted, never had to ask for more, so all our needs were met and when I did have a special request it was taken care of immediately.....in fact we enjoyed it so much I am already thinking of doing the southern tour next February on the same ship....the Dawn is also a larger ship but that shouldn't make any difference, wish you had a better cruise experience.....
