I guess it can get annoying, but I do wonder how you "time" them, or even remember which chair had what time ??

Pretty complicated

Do some cruise lines enforce the "no saving" rule more than others???

which ones enforce it, and how?

Do they have "deck monitors/workers" or ??

And what about the "saving" of seats in the showrooms and comedy shows?

I think that is clearly forbidden period but I read that people do it, so what then?? JMO saving a seat there is even worse than the pool?

Thanks in advance

I don't care to lounge around the pool area so I have no dog in this fight. I do enjoy sitting at the tables in the shade to read and people watch. It had never occurred to me leave my belonings behind even if just going to the restroom. Nothing personal but this was the only way I could be sure my things didn't grow legs and walk off. When I returned, the same seat was usually empty. If not, I just found another one.

The ultimate would be for Carnival to enforce their own rules:)

However, if they did that then they might enforce the "no bringing liquor on board rule"

I detest chair hoggers. The pool or in the lounge, I vote 30 minutes.....45 minutes max. And that's for drink break, room break, quick eating break and of course bathroom break (the extra 15 minutes is for major bathroom problems):D

To time chair hogs is easy - you sit on the edge of the pool on the benches there or at one of the tables...pick out a chair or two...look at the clock and 30 minutes is the MAX in my opinion. Even that is a long time, really. But, I am taking in to consideration the LONG lines at the burger and pizza stand. You can go to the bathroom and back in under 10 minutes. Unless you are having some kind of issues.....

BUT, bring your food back to your chair or give up your chair!!

There were chairs saved EVERYWHERE on EVERY deck (except the F-deck, which is where DH went to get our chairs that we set up in a 'cozy' corner on a different deck) on our last cruise. We also did 'take' chairs at the aft pool one day that was being 'saved' by a baseball hat on one chair and a towel on the other. Don't know who that baseball hat ever belonged too...

I don't 'need' to sit by the pool, and we don't 'need' a chair per person in the family....Our beach bag, sunscreen and towels don't need their own chairs either. Usually we would get two chairs for five of us.

IMO, saving chairs while you go inside and eat a leisurely lunch is wrong. 30 minutes is more than enough time to take a dip in the pool, grab some drinks, get a quick bite to eat TO BRING BACK TO YOUR CHAIR, etc. If you're leaving to spend time elsewhere on the ship, take your stuff with you so someone else can use the chair.

JMHO. :)

Not to be a troll, but I find it reasonable to leave my chair for more than 2 hours. I got up early to get the chair. Other people didn't. Snooze you loose. literally this time. I will have a liesurly everything and it is simply rude to move other people's stuff.

You are on a cruise, not a police training session.

I find this stuff ridiculous, the fact that people care about saving deck chairs, and that being an issue for people. There are other important things to worry about, such as tipping.

It never ceases to amaze me hearing these complaining words coming from a first timer at noon, on a sea day, after they rolled out of bed late from the previous nights party... "..there's no place to sit. I don't think they have enough chairs on this ship for all the people!"

Hint to 1st timers: Get up earlier and sleep it off by the pool... like my kids do. (haha)

Well, the fact is that there is a rule, and even if Carnival's staff is busy enough without being the chair hog monitors, it is inconsiderate to have ONE person in your party get up early and save a block of chairs that will probably NEVER be used. How many times have you seen the friends come up to the one person in the chair and say that they didn't want to sit by the pool, and leave? It's a ship with a lot of people on it. Be considerate of your fellow passengers.

When moving the offenders' possessions, how about leaving a note, like this one

That will remind the hogs that people belong in the chairs, not their stuff.

I agree with the above poster. If not everyone plans on occupying a chair then set all your party's stuff in one chair. Our family of five usually gets by with using just one or two. My husband and I do need a pool side chair so we can watch our kids closely, but their stuff does not need their own chair. We have seen many examples of rude passengers leaving stuff on chairs for hours, as we are usually at the pool for hours. Interesting to note is the flip side to this argument. One time my husband and I went to a show (on a cruise ship) and he decided to run to the restroom while we were waiting for the show to begin. A lady came up to me and asked me if his seat was taken. When I told her it was, she got upset and telling me that seat saving wasn't allowed. Now mind you, there were plenty of other seats available around us, so I have no idea why she wanted that one seat. I think she misunderstood the no seat saving, which is to prevent people from saving several seats in a row or a section of seats. She made a huge scene, but I didn't give in.

It's a rule Crazy... if you don't like the rules, don't cruise. Otherwise, you will return to find your items gone... If you get up early to get the chair, use the chair. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the logic in that... Doesn't even take someone very smart. My momma always said that if you are going to be adult enough to break the rules, be an adult while you are paying the consequences. So when you come back and find your items gone, suck it up... be a man :D

Thats a bunch of BS, if you get up to go eat lunch, the chair is up for grabs period. Now going to the rest room is different, I would let a person close to me know I will be back, just going to the rest room.

Okay, I might rethink the lunch part, but to those that say 15 minutes is too much, I say BS. You're proably the kind of boss that makes his/her employees account for every minute of their time at work. I guess micro managing has made its way to the vacation industry.

I sailed on the 4/1 Glory and chairs were at a premium. This was spring break and the ship was full. After searching for 30 minutes for a chair, my daughter and I took possession of two chairs that had been vacant the whole time we were looking. We moved the things off that were there and placed them together under one of the chairs. Well, 15 minutes later, the previous owners showed up and cussed us out. They were very ugly and I called security. Even though we were in the right and security told us we could stay there, we opted to move and security found us some more chairs. I would totally do it again though. Just be prepared for some nasty responses.

It is not the quantity of time, but quality of item that is important, when I needed a nice pair of sunglasses last week, it only took me minutes to find just the right pair!

My DH was at the casino while I lounged and read not far from the pool. I found a single chair next to 8 in a row- nicely lined up with perfectly folded towels strategically placed on each one. One had a current magazine- mailing label/address and all on it.

After an hour and a half of reading, my DH had lost his daily gambling budget and joined me by the pool- commandeering one of the aforementioned empty chairs. 40 minutes after THAT ( now 2 hrs and 10 minutes of vacant chairs)- some 30'somthing guy came up to my husband and told him "hey Pal- you're in my chair"- mind you he was ALONE and there were 7 other chairs in the grouping next to us. My husband said "I beg your pardon, but this chair has not been used in the last 2 hours- so I joined my wife. There are more chairs right there" and pointed to the other ones next to us. The guy stated that those were his other friends chairs and they would be on deck any minute at which time he expects my DH to move. My husband then proceeded to tell this clown "hey Pal- there is a chair for every ass- literally and figuratively- on this ship-go find yours somewhere else". He stalked away and he nor his friends came back for those chairs within the next hour that we were there. When we did leave- my DH scooped up every one of those $22 towels and brought them to the Pursers office as lost and found. OK- so maybe it was the NEXT day that he bought them to the Purser. Hmmm- or was it the day after that?!?!? He also gave them the magazine with the address label on it. Maybe the folks missing their towels were reunited with them before they wound up on their S&S cards. Or maybe not.
