that was the best most intense movie weve seen in a long time !!! i hope it never really happens, i guess its good to study the layout of the ship... :p

i highly recommend this movie for anyone... i know we are all cruise critic but its fun to be movie critics also,,,

Impulsive Puppy - we watched the Sun yesterday afternoon as it headed south towards Elliott Bay. We don't (almost never) get to see the ships heading south in the afternoon. They are always headed north on their way to AK in the afternoon. Being that this is the Sun's first sailing to AK this season, the schedule was a bit different.

 

It looked as if it was empty of passengers as it came from Canada - there was not one soul to be seen on any deck, or on any of the port side balconies. We could see daylight pouring through the Starboard windows in the 2 restaurants on deck 5.

 

Having been on the Sun's sister ship (the Sky) I could envision what it all looked like in there. You will certainly enjoy the Sun, and NCL puts on a wonderful cruise.

 

Maybe we'll see you down around the waterfront sometime this summer - I like to go down there often during the sailing season.

Four of us saw it. Whiz Bang scenes were good. I missed Shelley Winters and Ernest Borgnine. Still sailing on the Norwegian Star in Sep.

My 17yr-old son...also my only child took me out to see the "Poseiden" this afternoon...though the movie itself was packed with ongoing action...I found the script rather missed that "It factor" Just don't know what the "IT Factor" was or should have been...IMO it also lacks the "Wow Factor" There were a few one liners that bumped the on lookers into a chuckle or two...All in All...not a waste of money since my darling son flipped the bill...&...never a waste of time spent with my ever SO handsome son! :)

I took my DM to the movie and we both enjoyed it! It was a good 1.75 hours! I thought parts of the ship looked real if that happened. I was impressed!

I saw Poseidon today too... the effects were good but the acting and script, not so much.

 

The fictional ship looked pretty cool, it had some huge pools and quite a few exterior staircases. The one cabin they showed was a 2 level suite with a full bar :D and the casino was overlooking the dining room.

 

The movie was just okay, should have been a made for tv thing, not a main feature IMO

i liked the casino overloking the ballroom thingy. that was a nice touch. If the Poseiden were a real ship, what line do you think she would be in? I would guess Crystal or Silversea.

I think she would be in the Cunard QMII league, she is too big for Crystal. :)

 

They did a good job with the sets, considering it wasn't a real ship. The dining room implosion was good :D

i saw the movie this weekend...it was ok...but the boat didnt look like any of the carnival ships i had been on...i actually thought this boat was rather boring. the second ship i went on in october had a bad tilt to the side because we were trying to steer away from hurricane wilma! but we were never in danger, the captains are highly trained proffesionals and know what they are doing. besides, i am more likely to get killed in my car than on a cruise ship from a wave!!!

My son took me out to see "Poseidon" yesterday for mother's day! I too enjoyed it...action from beginning till end...fast & furious...the audience even chuckled at the limited "one-liners" the script did allow. Two of our friends that we met on the "roll call" board were part of the "rouge wave" they were also in the same exact room this past 4/26 cruise! they said that the wave actually broke the window of their "owners suite in the front of the ship...They and another couple bought the captain a memory for his good job! nice gesture...I'll probably see her on IM later...I'll mention this thread...maybe she'll chime in and share her expierence...BTW...she is not one of the pax involved in the lawsuit...much to sweet for that! :)

I happened to catch a TV show on rogue waves either the Discovery channel,or maybe the History channel last night after the Sapranos last night. The incident on the Dawn was mentioned and there were interviews with some of the Dawn's passengers. There were also some shots of the filming of the new Poseidon film. The European Space Agency has two satellites in orbit which is documenting the frequency of occurrences, and the areas were these waves seem to be more prevelant. It seems the Gulf Stream is one of the areas where these waves seem to occur more frequently.

I'll go see it, no worries here. I know how to separate real life from fictional film and I like a good tension-filled movie.

 

I would also see Flight 93, but I definitely would not put these two films in the same class together. Flight 93 film is important for us to remember a very sad part of our history, the other film is fluff entertainment.

I watched the History Channel's program on rogue waves and there were a few people interviewed about their accounts of what happened on the Dawn. I must say, the History Channel has lost all credibility with me. I cannot believe the misrepresentation of what happened.

 

I also am NOT a member of the class-action suit against NCL.

While on our cruise, I noticed my daughter always looking at the ceilings. She was trying to figure out what it would look like upside down--and where would be the best spot when we flipped over:eek:

 

 

I remember doing the exact same thing when I cruised back in the 80s. After watching "Rogue Waves" on the History channel last night, I guess I will be doing it again in October...:confused: Scary....but I never thought Poseiden could be a real possibility until last night.

 

Why is it that the original Poseiden Adventure, Titanic and A Night to Remember are always on TV just before I go on a cruise... Something that makes you go hmmmm...

Fishstang and I saw Poseidon yesterday as well. I was hoping against hope that Gene Hackman would at least make a cameo appearance. :rolleyes: I agree that the casino overlooking the dining room was pretty fancy. And Kurt Russell's suite? Wow!

 

We sailed on the Sun a few years ago (Western Carribean) and thought it was lovely.

Certainly not NCL. Everyone was in formal dress. I would say Cunard or Holland America.

I just saw the movie about an hour ago, as a matter of fact. I preferred the original, 1972 version. This new one was okaaaaay, but I really liked the cast from the first film better. A LOT better. I like that the old one is more "campy", too. It's definitely a classic. I also like the song by Maureen McGovern called "A Morning After".

I'm torn on this. The original film is such a classic! I'm just not sure whether I want to see the remake or not. I guess I'll wait to see what the reviews say, but either way, it won't deter me from cruising again.

And, remember, you guys were hit from the front. A side impact could have been a different picture altogether. A wave coming at you head-on is definitely to your advantage.

 

As you can see in my signature I am an original WAVE RIDER. Though it was scary while it was going on things like that don't happen often. So yes I will see the movie and be able to somewhat relive what happened on our cruise. As Jetskier said we suffered only minor injuries and broken windows on our Dawn Rogue Wave Adventure. Will also be sailing on the Dawn again in April 2007.

The History Channel totally exaggerated the damage and injuries on the Dawn. Regarding the Poseiden film, even if we ignore the fact that a cruise ship cannot remain afloat upside down, the wave that struck Poseiden from the side and turned it over was so large it could easily have been detected on radar miles away and enabled the ship to turn into it, as the Dawn did with a much smaller wave. But then, fantasy is the staple of Hollywood.
