Norwegian Star

Recommended Posts

Hi, has anything improved on the Star since the last June 6th reviews?

Booked for an eight day Mexican Riviera cruise in October, but having second thoughts. We have a balcony stateroom on the tenth deck. We have Cruised twice to the Mexican Riviera with Carnival, 7 day on the Elation,and 8 day on the Spirit. We had a balcony Stateroom on the Spirit. Enjoyed both cruises,very few complaints. Enjoyed Mexico--have cruised Caribbean--liked Mexico best. How is the casino on the Star?

Hi SEAHORSE;

We were having second thoughts about our cruise due to so many negative posts about the food and people unhappy with the freestyle format.This will be our first time cruising with NCL. Things seem to be looking better from the latest reviews.

Hi ZIMMERJULIE;

We look forward to your review and appreciate your information and time.

HAL,

We just returned from the Star 6-20-04 cruise, and like you had experience with Carnival. We had a great time on the Star. We really enjoyed the variety of restarants and variety of food on the Star. We were on deck 11. One recommendation would be to make sure your room is in the middle or back of the ship, my moms room was in the front, and she had to walk far to get to most of the food places, which can be hard for an elderly person. Our room was in the rear of the ship, and it was a great location. Keep your cruise booked, you will really enjoy it.

We've cruised NCL twice and went on a Carnival cruise back in 1998 and just recently in March (family reunion) on the Miracle and hands down, NCL is better. We promised ourselves that we will never cruise Carnival again, even if family is involved!! The freestyle is the way to go, so many choices - such a classier line. Don't have second thoughts!

I have sailed Freestyle 3x and going on the Star (Mexico) in March. I LOVE Freestyle. Was just on Celebrity and couldn`t get used to assigned seating. I was a very unhappy cruiser.

Freestyle isn`t for everyone. You have to go with an open mind and don`t compare it with traditional cruising. YOU HAVE TO BE FLEXIBLE.

If you have a large family and you want to eat together it may present a problem but that can be worked out.

To me Freestyle meens freedom, freedom, freedom :0)

Any questions, feel free ;), to ask.

I have been on close to 40 cruises. All the posts regarding the NCL Wind were negative, but I went anyway. Well, I have to tell you, the food and service were top notch. Nothing like the posts let me to believe. Remember, for a lot of people, it is easier to complain than compliment. I am on the Star 10/28 and can't wait.

We are booked for 10/2. I sailed the Star back in 2002 in Hawaii and booked the Mexican Riviera trip on her recently. After I made the booking I started reading the board again and got a little nervous with what seemed like a lot of bad comments! But I agree, negative stories really seem to get more attention than positive sometimes. All the cruiselines have passengers who have unfortunate experiences or whose expectations are not met, it's not just NCL. I try to just take the negative posts as being from a small percent of the many other people who had a positive experience and use the knowledge to try and avoid problems myself. I fully expect to have a great cruise!

A cruise is what you make of it if you go thinking that you not going to have a good time so be it. I love cruiseing seeing new places meeting new people re newing old friendships. Go on the cruise will a open mind and have a great cruise.

We are going on the Star Sept 19th. We switched over from a similar itinerary on the Diamond Princess. We like the ports better on the Star,

it was a 2 day longer cruise, and we like the idea of Freestyle.

Although, it would've been nice being on a brand new ship, I think we made

the best choice!

  • 3 weeks later...

We just returned from a wonderful cruise on the Star. Please see

my (very) long review. It's on the NCL message board in the thread

"Norwegian Star: The Novel."

By the way, it's there because cruisecritic is reporting a delay in posting

reviews, so I chopped it up and put in on the message board. I also submitted

it as a review, so we'll see if it ever shows up.

In brief, we had a great time and thought it was a great ship.

Regards,
