Why would you bring a crockpot..? just curious

from what i've learned off all these post's L2v12,is that some ppl will sneak a fishing pole on also, catch 1 or 2 fish and make a fresh fish stew for a late night treat instead of ordering room service late at night.

We have everything else in NYC, but, sigh, no Walmart...I'm sure I can find that light at a Kmart or Target.

When do you leave?

If you want to send me your address, I can mail one up to you if you can't find it locally.

Just let me know...PM me at the7ings@yahoodotcom

Carnival Secrets they don't tell you about . . . . . .

THE FUEL SURCHARGE

:D :D :D

and because they really didn't tell you about it, now we get paid back.

Because we booked way back in October we do not have to pay the surcharge for our April cruise on the Valor. It also might have somethig to do with the fact that what they are doing is illegal in Canada. Eight of us saved $35.00 each ! That's $34.00 each Canadian.

It's not when you booked, it's when you sail. All of Carnival Corp.'s six American branded lines -- Carnival Cruise Lines, Costa Cruises, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and The Yachts of Seabourn -- will add a daily $5 fee for all new and existing bookings for voyages on or after Feb. 1, 2008. The energy tax applies only to the first and second guests in a stateroom and will not exceed $70 per person per voyage. New invoices with the added fuel charge will be issued to all passengers with current reservations. Perhaps there's a "Canadian loophole", but the rest of us are paying it, regardless of when we booked..

Someone posted earlier that plug-in night lights don't work unless the light switch is flipped on in the bathroom in order to activate the electricity, which kind of defeats the point of having a night light at all in your cabin. Am I to assume correctly that if you'd like to leave something charging in your room overnight (or at any other time, for that matter), you have to leave the bathroom light on???

The electric (1) plug over the desk is not controlled by any light switch. Never has been on any of the Carnival ships we have been on. We always use it to recharge cameras overnight with all lights off.

I agree. Whoever said that is giving bad info. You do not have to keep the light on to get electricity.

Carnival will reverse it given the pressure from the Florida AG. For what it's worth, I booked my cruise over the phone with my PVP last May and she never mentioned the possibility of a surcharge. We'll see what happens. I'd say that was a surprise they didn't tell me about.

You can decline to have your pictures taken. I did not want my picture taken with a pot smoking rastafarian at the pier in Jamaica, while others loved it.

Also, I just cashed in some rewards points with American Airlines. I only had enough points to buy magazines, which I would have lost if I didn't use them by the end of the month. I ordered Conde Nast Traveler and they just sent me some neon highlighted, luggage handle straps with my name on them.

On my cruise on the Imagination in November 2006. They had a group of "new" photographers. They were being trained in the atrium areas on how to setup equipment, solicit customers, etc. I sat and watched them under the direction of their trainer/supervisor. I even particpating in their training, and recieved a coupon for a free picture. I don't know how much trainined they recieved before I saw them, but they were pretty familiar with the camera. The pictures they took came out great. Too bad American Airlines lost/stole them with a few other items!

WRONG. We booked before they announced the surcharge so we are off the hook even though our cruise is in April. If we had of booked after it was announced we would be paying.

I am also traveling with my 2 sons ages 12 and 14. My sister and her husband are also traveling with us. My brother in law is renting a tux. Should i rent one for my 14 yo son? I really don't want to spend the extra money if I don't need to. Is a sport jacket ok? Should he bring a tie?

Unless your son WANTS to dress up, don't bother.

We have rented a tux for our son twice now, and it was wonderful to get all the pictures that he wanted to take all dressed up. I especially love the Father and Son in tux on the staircase shot...they both looked so proud.

I think that a dress shirt would do for your son, sports coat would be nice, tie would be optional. Remember mom, he smiles MUCH nicer for photos if he is wearing something he is comfortable in vs something he is forced to wear.

The BEST family picture we have of our 6 kiddos together is the one where I did NOT make everyone coordinate what they would wear so that it did not "clash". The 8 of us may have looked like a paint store blew up, but EVERYONE was smiling because THEY liked what THEY chose to wear!

I am a newbie (to this site and cruising) and need some help understand something.....

I noticed a lot of people in this thread recommending to tip this person and/or tip that person and carry a roll of ones etc. Why would all this be necessary if I am already being automatically charged $10/day per person plus a 15% gratuity included on beverage orders?

The extra tipping is totaly up to you and should be for excellent service only, which you more than likely will get. The $10/day is divided amoungst a lot of people, it is for your head waiter, and his assistant, and for your room steward and all his assistants, and a few others behind the scenes. The crew on the ship, for the most part work 12 hours a day, and for very little pay. It is just nice to pay a little extra for the great job they do to give you a wonderful, unforgetable vacation. :)

Understood. Thanks for the clarification!

It seems that Carnival has different polices on all their ships. I was on the Spirit this past March, and non-carbonated soft drinks, Espresso & Cappuccino were FREE in the main dining room.

Additionally, the non-carbonated soft drinks, coffee, tea, hot chocolate AND soft serve ice cream and frozen yogurt were FREE & AVAILABLE 24/7!

So coffee is free? I can't do without my coffee!

Regular coffee is free at meals and at the self-service stations in the Lido Buffet. Specialty coffees are charged. You can get them at the specialty coffee shop near the casino.
