Getting to Brisbane Cruise Terminal

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me if there are trains to the cruise terminal or nearby? We will be travelling from Crestmead (Woodridge/Logan) and need to figure out the best way to get to the cruise terminal as my dad's car won't fit 4 suitcases, backpacks, laptop, and 5 people in it!!

Thanks Rach

No trains to the terminal sorry.

Your best bet would be to catch the train to roma street or central and catch a cab from there. Or you could go to south bank and then take a city cat to bretts wharf and then walk to the terminal.

What about a shuttle? Pick you up at the door and drop you off at the terminal. The cost amongst 5 shouldn't be all that much, and there are always heaps of them going from the Gold Coast to the airport, which isn't far from the cruise terminal.

As yet, there are no shuttles to the Brisbane cruise terminal (stupid, I know) If there are 5 of you, a cab fare from Roma St. Transit Centre would be minimal, shouldn't be anymore than $5 each.

Hi All

Thanks for your help - we have decided to catch the train to south bank and then ferry to bretts wharf. THe kids are going to get lots of travel experience - car for 3 1/2 hours, plane for 4 1/2 hours, train for and hour (just to get to brisbane!!) and then car for 10 minutes, train for 40 minutes and then ferry for 15 minutes - just to get to the ship!!!

Cheers Rach

What a mammoth journey before you even get to the wharf.

This reminded me of when we were disembarking in Sydney from the Pacific Sun and, as we were waiting in line, I was talking to an elderly gentleman who had one suitcase.

I asked him if he had far to go to get home. He smiled and said that he only lived across the street and he pointed to a unit across the road.

Now that's convenient. :D

David, shuttles aren't as big a feature here in Brisbane as they are in NZ. I was suprised on our recent visit to NZ how many more options there were for getting to and from the main airports (Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch). It didn't matter to much for us as we had people meeting us - but I was suprised to see how easy it was.

It all add's to the fun Rach! We drove 350 kilometres yesterday to get from Mt Cook back to Christchuch to get the plane back to Brisbane. Was a long day for us. We left Mt Cook at 8am and got home at about 11pm(which for our bodies was really 2am), so you can imagine we were a bit tired!

How is your son??

Hi Kym

Thanks for asking - he is well and truly on the mend - he will just have some scaring on his face from his lip to near his ear. We are still not sure about his hearing won't know until February when he sees the ear nose and throat specialist - we are trying to organise that here so we don't have to drive to Darwin (300 kms away) and go past the scene of the accident - as he still can't remember it. He is also going to counselling to help him deal with his memory and people's questions as we live in a small town.

We are really looking forward to the cruise and all the travel - it does definitely add to the excitement - we booked the tickets to Brisbane the other day for the last day of school - umm need to try and get the last day off school - not looked kindly upon when you are a teacher :D - let me tell you - but it was nearly $400 cheaper to fly on the last day of school!!!

Our daughter and I just went through her wardrobe - she's 12 1/2 and very excited - to the extent that she has packed her clothes already!! She's just like her mum impatient to be on a cruise!!:D

Very pleased to hear that your son's on the mend Rach. Having lived in a small country town I can imagine what he'll be going through with questioning etc, and I guess there'll also be a lot of rumour and misinformation getting around too.

At least he's got the cruise as a positive thing to look forward to.

Hi Rach,

That seems like a long haul! My Mum use to live in Crestmead and we have used a variety of options to get to cruises both departing from Brisbane (via the old Transit Centre) and from Sydney (to get to the airport). A few recommendations if I may:

1. We used a bus hire company and chartered a mini bus when there were 12 of us cruising one time. It cost us about $150 each way (about $12 each) and they picked us up at home. Was cheaper & more convenient. My only word of warning. No matter how many times I told them (at least 3 times!) we would have 12 people and 12 large pieces of luggage and asked would it fit, they still turned up with just the mini bus and there was no way our luggage would fit.

Fortunately my sister-in-law's Dad was there to see us off and we managed to cram most of the luggage into her car (which he was borrowing) and he met us at the airport. Then we had bags lined up down the aisle of the bus. Should have seen my face when the mini bus pulled up at 5am in the morning. It was priceless!!

The bus company promised to have it fixed before we got back and sure enough met us at the airport with the mini bus & a car so we could squeeze everything in for no extra charge. Next time I am demanding a trailor!!

2. Check out maxi taxis. These usually charge 1.5 times the fare and are good for a group of five. You can call the taxi company and they will give you a quote of how much the fare will cost. Again you can book them to pick you up at home and it may work out cheaper & more convenient than multiple forms of travel.

My only word of warning be prepared for traffic problems on the Gateway depending on your time of travel. Would recommend avoiding peak hour if you can!! Could work out more expensive...

Just remember the last thing you want to do is get to the wharf all flustered and annoyed. You want to start your holiday relaxed and relatively easy. Then you can get frustrated as you line up at the wharf!!

Whatever you do have a smile on your face and be prepared to shake off challenges as they come!

Cheers,

Charmain:)

Don't get a taxi from the Gold Coast it would be well in excess of $150 I'd say.

There is a train direct from the Gold Coast (Robina) to the City and Brisbane Airport. On a Saturday they leave Robina for the city every half an hour, around the roughly at 20min and 50 min past the hour, from 5.49 in the morning. The train to the city takes about 1hr. You could catch that train and then either;

a) Get off at Southbank (Vulture St) or South Brisbane Station's, walk a short distance to the City Cat stop on Soutbank and get the City Cat downstream to Brett's Wharf. From there it's a short 5-10 minute walk to the ship - you won't be able to miss it - when you get off the ferry the ship will be right in front of you - just follow the path along the river. Ferry trip's about 30-45 mins depending on the passenger loads.

b) Get off at Roma St and pick up a taxi to the Passenger Terminal. Taxi would be about 20 minutes from Roma St

c) Get off at Bowen Hills and get a taxi. Taxi would be cheaper from here, but harder to get - you'd have to phone one.

d) Get off at Eagle Junction station and get a taxi

e) Get off at the Domestic Terminal (end of the line) and try an pick up a P&O shuttle to Hamilton.

Best options would be a) or c) or d).

Got to www.translink.qld.gov.au and use the travel planner to see what options you get for travel.

Thanks you so much for that info Skyrules, very helpful indeed, cheers!

How are the trains from Gold Coast to Brisbane, are they slightly bigger and different to the metro ones coz of the long trip? I considered a taxi so we could be comfortable and relax, not have to worry about transport delays and not have to haul our luggage around coz if the trains are anything like the ones in Sydney, it will be painful!!

They do have some long distance sets that mostly used one the Gold Coast line, with more luggage space, more comfy seats and toilets, but occassionally the standard suburban sets are used as well. Because you would be coming up on a Saturday overcrowding shouldn't be a problem on the train, but the City Cats could be a bit full as on the weekend they tend to become a bit of a tourist attraction rather than a transport ferry.

Our local logan paper had an article last year - saying that a shuttle bus from Beenleigh will be starting this year to cruise terminal. Haven't heard anything lately but if I do I will let you know as Beenleigh isn't far from Crestmead.:)

I heard the same thing about a shuutle from the Sunshine Coast. It was supposed to start last year, not long after I got back from my cruise in August.

Does anyone know where you turn off the Gateway arterial road from the NORTH to get to the Terminal. I thought someone said something about it being the same turn off as the Airport. I have to brief the rellies who are taking mum to the Terminal. They aren't too familiar with the area but they do know how to get to the Airport.

It's the next exit AFTER the airport but before the bridge. There is a sign saying "Brisbane Cruise Terminal", they can't miss it. The turn off is roughly about 1-2km past the airport exit. The terminal is on Kingsford Smith Drive, so if they look for those exit signs too, they can't go wrong.
