What would your favorite themed cruise be?

Complete with a ballroom and an orchestra, every evening. (Maybe we could entice Sir Neville Mariner to come out of retirement and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Orchestra with a free cruise?)

Liberally peppered throughout the cruise with entertainment consisting of world class ballet principal dancers performing pas de deux, arias by opera singers, a few scenes from Shakespeare thrown in for good measure, string quartets, solo concert pianists, and Itzhak Perlman on violin!

And Steve Martin, Leslie Nielsen, Albert Brooks and Meryl Streep as dining companions. :D

May all your dreams come true,

Susan

I've been on one knitting cruise, and it was so much fun that my knitting buddy and I are already plotting our next one. We were a small group, about two dozen, but we all enjoyed sharing tips and admiring each other's work. The instructor chose a simple scarf pattern that we could complete within the week, and was available at specified hours each day. Individual knitters could knit with the group or pursue their own interests.

This was an Alaskan cruise, and it was a thrill for all of us to find a shop in Skagway selling qiviut yarn.

I can think of two possibilities:

1. Radio talk show (If some better known talk show hosts could make it). I bet this kind of cruise with Rush Limbaugh would fetch top dollar and would sell out pretty quickly! If not Rush, maybe Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Jason Lewis, some local names, etc.

2. DH expressed interest in a cigar aficionado cruise. Maybe Cigar Dave and his harem could be along for this one!

How bout a Holistic New Age cruise? It would be a cruise of relaxation and meditation with classes on various different subjects. Cruisers could pick and choose their interests. Vendors with lots of different info and goods would be all around. Does something like this exist? This would definately be one for leaving the hubs at home and bringing our gal pals. ;) Oh men are welcome too.... I just know mine would prefer a golfing/hunting/football them instead.

Theater - not just musicals, not just shakespeare, but theater. The lectures could vary from acting techniques, to set design. From makeup to playwriting to front of house. Many smaller muscials, such as "The Big Bang" or "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" would play beautifully upon a ship, as would hundreds of comedies or dramas. Yup, that would be a cruise we'd like to be on.

Anyone who said money can't buy happiness isn't a season ticket holder.

How about a cruise with no children allowed :D Besides the biker cruise I am going on the no kids cruise would be great. We could have riska comedians, no kids taking up the pool and no brats screaming...LOL. Don't get me wrong, I love kids but not ALL the time :o

I'd be up for an Adults Only Cruise. The entire ship can be an Adults Only area (of course, then they'd charge even more for the video!). Maybe a game of strip poker in the casino or a more -ahem- relaxed dress code. The possibilities are numerous.

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for another Authors at Sea cruise to be announced. No such luck by Levy Entertainment even tho they promised there would be one. Boo, Levy. I will suggest here that a book cruise would be great. If we could get a mixture of types and authors, it could be a lot of fun. We could have seminars, play games and discover new authors. Maybe another book distributor could put one on? I'll keep checking this board.

I would quite enjoy a cruise like that, but what I'd *really* like as a themed cruise would be...

...probably TMI for most of the readers, and likely to violate posting guidelines, so I won't say. ;)

Our very first cruise back in 1991 was a 50s 60s rock and roll cruise. On board were Paul Revere and the Raiders and Dion. It WAS great!!! There was a group of 250 or so from Oregon/Washington that had booked through one of their local radio stations, so they were EVERYWHERE on the ship. I must say, it was a GREAT first cruise because, as everyone said, everyone had SOMETHING in common!!!

My husband wants to do another one (50s 60s) so if anyone hears of one, please let me know!!!

There are LOTS of Oldies music theme cruises - this board is the best place to check for them. My company just did one in Jan. and we are doing 1 this May from Tampa and another in October from Long Beach. We are just 1 of MANY agencies that promote and execute Oldies Music Concert cruises.

I have often thought that it would be fun to go on a cruise that they offered a "theme" throughout the trip. There are so many possibilities!!

Some that sound good to me include:

wine appreication

bird watching

star gazing

rock 'n' roll

nature & envirnonment

What would you like????

A murder myster cruise a la Murder on the Nile would be a blast especially if we got to play characters and wear costumes.

A Seamanship cruise that has historians, engineers, Ex-Captains, WWII Naval captains talking about the history, technology, International rules of the sea...the behind the scenes look at what it takes to navigate these ships around the world. This would also include tours of the engine room, bridge... Fascinating stuff if you ask me. :)

2. Country music cruise

3. Beach music/blues cruise

There is a country cruise on August 23, 2008 with RCA recording artist Chris Young, Billy Yates, Randy Houser & David Kroll. You can go to the artists website chrisyoungcountry to find the details out. Last year was alot of fun and this year even promises to be better. There will be a full band concert, accoustic shows, pajama party, games, fan club member only event, plus many extras added TBA.:)

For me, I would love to go on either a Country Music cruise with lots of CW dancing or a ballroom dance cruise. Oh Wait, I am going on a ballroom cruise this October on Princess. It is sponsered by our dance studio.

Guaranteed to have a blast on this country cruise as the artists all really speed alot of time with the fans. You can check out the artists chrisyoungcountry to get the details.

We'd definitely love a Latin Dance cruise, being avid dancers, but in the absence of a cruise like that, we'll do what we can on the next one which will hopefully have a good Latin band that knows the difference between a Waltz and a Merengue. We were very lucky last year on our Hawaii cruise and are hopeful!

I had to chuckle when I read the thread about a ballet cruise. Can you imagine what would happen if the ship hit a swell just when the ballerinas are "en pointe"?:D

I would love to go on a wine themed cruise which in my mind would have wine tastings every evening prior to dinner, a red and white wine served with dinner, cooking with wine classes (followed by eating with wine:D ), and wine parties in the evening. I'm settling for a wine group cruise on the Ecstasy in Oct which includes 4 wine tastings. I will, of course, bring two good bottles with me to enjoy at dinner. Hopefully my waiter will forget to charge the corking fee like they did last time!;)
