hubofhockey Posted April 13, 2007 #54 Share Posted April 13, 2007 I've taken weeklong vacations to Aruba, Curacao, St Martin and have cruised to Nassau, Cozumel, Ochos Rios, Grand Cayman. Prettiest Island - St Martin (french side) Best Food - St Martin (french side and nothing comes close) Best Beach - Grand Cayman - Seven Mile Beach/Sea Grape Best for culture - Curacao Best snorkling - Curacao (underwater park) Best geared for tourists - Aruba The cruise port in St Maarten is on the duch side, which is commercialized and too many cruise ship passengers dominate that part of the island. The French side is where the best beaches and restaurants are. I loved it. For a family vacation, the Aruba hotels are great. You need to look at islands differently as cruise destinations since you're only looking at them as 5-8 hour mini-vacation days. For example, it's hard to believe anyone could find enough things to do in a week at Cozumel or Costa Maya without getting bored. I'd be broke with a week in Grand Cayman and would confine myself to an all-inlusive in Jamaica. But I could easily spend a week in Aruba, Curacao, or St Martin. nosmothj Posted April 13, 2007 #58 Share Posted April 13, 2007 We went to Aruba November 30th 2006 rained most of the day. Found the island built up and very much like south Florida. Save your money go to Ft Myers Beach basicly the same. Before anyone bites my head off nothing wrong with Ft Myers Beach!!! Aruba, just not the natural beauty of other ports. I love Aruba. You never have to worry about rain!
halos Posted April 13, 2007 #59 Share Posted April 13, 2007 Huatulco for unspoiled beauty Cozumel for the people there. I love Coz, there's nothin like it. :D :D Basically, I just love Mexico!! Hawaii697 Posted April 13, 2007 #60 Share Posted April 13, 2007 Soo many favorites Miami - Precruise and Bayside (for evening entertainment) St. Thomas for the shopping and the Ferry to St. Johns Cozumel for the ferry to Playa del Carmen (awesome) and the "old" Carlos & Charlies with the dirt basketball court and volleyball court (do u remember???) Aruba for Renaissance Hotel & Casino with Private Island and massage on the beach (ahhh!) Antiqua - Turners Beach - only 364 more to try Barbardos - Jolly Rogers and such friendly folks Guadaloupe - because we actual made it to a beach (Goiser) using the public bus system and we don't speak a lick of french. It was fantastic traveling like the locals. Leaving out of San Juan because of the best sailaway parties :D

We live in Trinity, NC...which is near High Point, but we also have a place in Newport on the waterfront. Just wondered some more about you! Salty water, margaritas, the Beaufort waterfront & if no live Buffett atleast some Scearce & Ketner! Peace neighbors! :D

clgcrusier Posted April 14, 2007 #64 Share Posted April 14, 2007 I'm with several others-Roatan so far is my favorite. I like the less commercialized ports, and so am looking forward to St. Kitts next year, also, as it sounds wonderful!:)
Liv2kruz Posted April 14, 2007 #65 Share Posted April 14, 2007 Roatan Isle......West Bay Beach to be exact!! Unspoiled beauty, a bit of paradise! Sitting on our balcony and watching us arrive at the port of Honduras, we were thinking we were not even going to get off the ship at this port. (not a very impressive port at first sight) After talking to our breakfast waitress, she encouraged us to take a $20 taxi ride to West Bay Beach (the other side of the island)....and were we ever surprised. It was the most beautiful beach, post card perfect! Roatan Isle was by far my favorite port:D

Have you ever listened to Scearce & Ketner? If not google them & have ya listen! They usually get around NC pretty good! I love Wilmington by the way! :p Take care! CorbinCatFan Posted April 14, 2007 #67 Share Posted April 14, 2007 Mrs. CCF loves Aruba (we've been twice, I snorkel, she doesn't). My fav has been Grand Cayman and swimming with the stingrays. CruiseCATnMACK Posted April 14, 2007 #68 Share Posted April 14, 2007 Is it possible to pick just one? If so I would have to say Aruba. We will be going next year for a two-week land vacation during “Carnival”. Other islands that have won a special place in my heart are, Costa Maya, Guadaloupe, St. Lucia, and Antiqua. Other than Jamaica I can’t say that I’ve been to an island I didn’t like.

It will give you a calendar of events! I bet the Embers were great! By the way my 13 year old daughter goes often in the summer to UNC Wilmington for Marine Biology camp! She loves it! She's 13 and has wanted to be a marine biolgist since she was 4, but now she is starting to lean towards Veterinary at State! She'll be in the Early College program in High School so she'll graduate with a two year associates degree the same year she will graduate high school! They receive a diploma & degree at the same time! I told her that's two years down, better make the most of it! Oh I almost forgot to mention the guys sometime come to High Point & if they do it would be an hour & 15 min drive just to come & hang out! They usually play at a restaurant bar & it's awesome! They play Wilmington too! They did on April 6th! Here's ya a link! http://www.scearceandketner.com/main.html Then go to calendar! I promise if you love Buffett you'll love S&K! Lovesunshine Posted April 15, 2007 #72 Share Posted April 15, 2007 My favourite port so far has been Roatan Honduras which is probably one one poorest ports that I have ever been at (go figure). I did the Tabyana Beach Party & Snorkel via NCL back in Feb 2002 and "OMG" it was worth every penny! For anyone who likes to snorkel it was truly breath taking!!! I would go back to Roatan to snorkel in a heart beat!!! This port offers no "bling bling" but the underwater life seen at Tabyana Beach will more than make up for it!! Iceteaqueen Posted April 15, 2007 #74 Share Posted April 15, 2007 Costa Maya & Belize Costa Maya- I can't find anything to do in this port, could you tell me what you did in Costa Maya. We are planning on staying in the port and getting some sun and some drinks then back to the boat for some food rather then eating in port. What do you think?
