DH would like to take a cruise to Alaska. I hate the cold. What is the warmest time to go, and with what cruiseline? We have only sailed Celebrity with a Princess coming up. Also which itinerary? Thanks so much ahead!

Go on a newer ship. :) Temps in Jun/Jul best chance. If you book on board your Princess cruise (open booking) you can transfer to any TA you want. Watch prices on internet then book. You will also get a ship board credit.

The Shapphire Princess is the newest one. But you will be able to compare the two lines then decide. Princess and Holland America have been doing Alaska the longest. Suggest a balcony for this trip or at least an outside with a view. Bring binoculars and a camera. ;)

My husband I went to Alaska in 2001 aboard the Regal Princess. We did the inside passage. It was awesome--whales, eagles, sea otters, etc. We had an inside cabin. However, up on the deck where the casino is, there were window seats where you could see everything going by. We went in June and had beautiful weather.

there were 10 of us in our group and we just returned from our inland alaskan cruise with the royal carribean 'serenade of the sea'. this is the ship to go on - it is sparkling new and clean, clean, clean. the crew was outstanding and we were treated like royalty from the minute we boarded throughout the trip. the food was outstanding everyday - i can't imagine better food! we had 5 teenagers with us and they had so much to do that all us adults relaxed all day long. the weather was good - one day it was overcast and rained but it didn't last long and it really wasn't cold. each port i wore my sandles w/o socks and i was fine. i had a fleece jacket but most times i didn't need it and just carried it around in town. alaska is so beautiful that i kept pinching myself that i was really experiencing what i was seeing. i had an outside cabin w/my own veranda and that is the only way to travel. we used the veranda everyday. what a way to go... sitting on your own private balcony, chatting w/friends, drinking a cup of tea, hot coco or margurita! i would repeat this trip in a minute. but the ship made the trip great. go on the serenade or the radiance of the sea and you will have the trip of your life!

I did an Alaskan cruise in early June 2002 on Carnival's Spirit. The ship was only a year old at that point. The ship was great as it has an indoor pool, which can come in handy if you enjoy swimming while floating by glaciers! I do recommend a balcony. It is well worth a few extra dollars. We used our balcony a lot. Early June is still "off peak", by a week. The average temperture was around 50, except when we drove to Denali, where it was in the 60's. I suggest layers for clothing. Gloves are great to remember as well. I bought a winter coat with a zip out liner, which came in handy at night. I usually just wore the liner. On board it is comfortable and we usually wore one shirt, sometimes a short sleeve. The Spirit is Carnival's superliner fleet. I loved the lockerroom showers and prefered to shower there after sitting in the jaquzzi. A lot more room in a shower with mutiple shower heads. I do hear that August is buggier if you are heading inland.

Search Tradizney on the boards as I did a write up of our trip with links to excursions we took.

I sailed the celebrity infinity r/t out of vancouver memorial day weekend and it was fantastic, both the cruiseline and the weather. I get cold VERY easily even though I live in the northeast and I thought the temperatures were perfect. high 60's to low 70's. I also hate high temperatures so for me this was the right time of the year to go, and I think it might be less rainy at this time.

My wife and I did the Alaskan inland trip on the Carnival Spirit the middle of June in 2011 and it has been the ONLY trip my wife still raves about ! Well, excluding her dolphin adventures in Saint Marten (of course). I just I had known about this CCritic site before our trip. I had no way of knowing WHAT to pack or find out any info. My wife, thinking, well it IS June, so I'll just pack shorts, sandals, etc.. :( Flew to Seattle, and found out the hard way that she needed heavier clothes. So, I can hardily recommend you visit the past Alaskan passenger blogs for advice. It IS (if the weather is as beautiful as it was for us) a trip you WILL remember for the rest of your life. ENJOY ! ( and do NOT forget that camera)
