danya83 Posted April 26, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2007 What are your MUST DO'S on your cruises? I've only been on one, and feel like I missed so much when I watched our 'cruise in review' dvd (DH won it the first day). I want to be more than prepared for our up coming mariner cruise in sept. petel Posted April 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2007 Fair question but varies widely.........So my best advice to you is: Study your compass everynight. Be sure to pick out what YOU want to do and descide how serious you are going to be about watching the time. I've heard people complain about missing lobster night because they were in the casino....that's a choice not a complaint. Watch that review DVD a couple more times and look at the compass to pick out "the good stuff". Enjoy! :)
isujim Posted April 26, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2007 Must Do's?..........Nothing..........and I know that isn't the answer you are looking for.......but after so many cruises we realized we were going home more tired than when we boarded the ship.........we have learned going in with no itinerary is better..........or maybe it is that age thing creeping up on us.:) Enjoy your cruise and pack as much as you can.........whatever works for you. ILoveScotland Posted April 26, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2007 Number 1 on my "to do" list on a cruise is to relax. I don't have to attend cooking classes or dance lessons or bingo. I don't have to go to shows. I am on vacation which for me means being laid back and letting the sea winds take me wherever they will throughout each day. This is not to say that before sailing I don't book excursions and do lots of planning. Nor does it mean that I don't look at the Compass to see what might interest me. It is meant to say that I don't stress about any of that. I have enough stress the rest of the time. Well, all of that of course is simply IMHO. I love Scotland...I had to comment, because both of my parents were born in Scotland. My grandmother had a copy of "My heart is in the highlands..." framed and hanging in their bedroom. :) Are you from Scotland?
ILoveScotland Posted April 26, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 26, 2007 Jules815, no I'm not from Scotland although my ancestors on my father's side came from Scotland to America in the 1700s. I do love the country and feel like I've gone home when I visit which I have done several times. I also have a tattoo of a thistle on my right ankle as my homage to the "best little country in the world." It was a 58th birthday present from my husband several years ago. When I was deciding on a screen name I was stumped, and ILoveScotland just popped into my head, so that's what it is. Where were your parents born? And did/do they speak with that wonderful Scottish accent?
vacationfool Posted April 26, 2007 #8 Share Posted April 26, 2007 1) Eat small meals or snacks, so you can try out all the resturants and buffets without missing a single one ! 2) Nap , either in the sunshine or in your cabin, so you will be well rested for the late night shows and buffets. 3) Go to the Late night buffets 4) Even if you do not find interest in some of the games or actiivities, try to pop in for a few minutes to learn what it is all about. 5) Take the tour of the kitchen- back scene , if its offered, its amazing! 6) Wait until later in the week, usually Friday before buying anything at the ship gift shop, as this is when the big sale will be! 7) If attending resturants onboard that require a fee, wait until it is half off -- read your CAPERS- PAPER everynight, as there are SPA specials too.* 8) SPA- Usually has a very nice pool and sauna area that is hardly used. the services for nails and massages are way over priced, so I would recommend having that done a few days before the cruise. 9) Volunteer for a game or activity, its fun. You win prizes. 10) Try the drink of the day specials
cb at sea Posted April 26, 2007 #9 Share Posted April 26, 2007 There are no "must dos!" It's your vacation! Just because someone else feels it necessary to check out this or that, don't feel you must do it, too! Do as you wish, when you wish! You already know that you will be cruising again! You will have PLENTY of time to do it all!
kcbookworm Posted April 26, 2007 #10 Share Posted April 26, 2007 So my best advice to you is: Study your compass everynight. And pack a highlighter! Before bed every night, I use my highlighter to mark the next day's Compass.
