Back from the Carnival Liberty

Just a brief review. I have to say this was one of the smoothest vacations I've been on! Flew into Fort Ladeda on Saturday, 4/21/07, stayed at the Comfort Inn Airport, Cruise Port. Wouldn't recommend this place, pretty much a dump. The only saving grace were the wonderful people we met Saturday nite in the "tiki bar". Sunday, 4/22/07, boarding the ship, pretty much a breeze. Stateroom was roomy enough and located in a great location, cabin#6290. Everything we needed to get to was very easy. The food in the dining rooms was unbelievable. We ate our breakfasts in the dining room. We tried the panini sandwiches on Lido, the fish n chips, the burgers....all great choices. We also tried the sushi...another great choice. We also did the dinner at Harry's one night and the was well worth the price. I would suggest this to everyone! Didn't leave the ship in Freeport, but my brother and sister-in-law did and said they wouldn't again. In Grand Caymen, my husband I did the Allura catamaran and stingray excursion...it was awesome! In Costa Maya, we all took the taxi ($3 there - $2 back)to the Cat's Meow, which I read about on these boards. Mahahual is very rustic and not much infastucture. We had our own private little beach front and the food at Cat's Meow was great. Can't beat the $10 bucket of beers (6). Barbara the owner, came out to greet and talk to everyone. It was worth the trip! Caught two of the shows and were pleasantly surprised. Deembarkation went very smooth and we were off the ship in no time! All in all, dollar for dollar, this was a great trip. The staff and crew were wonderful. Our hats off to Savio, a great drink server! My husband had left one of his medications at home and the imfirmary had his meds brought in from Grand Caymen. I definately would sail Carnival again. :o

 

I'm also still swaying when I sit still, last cruise it took me three days!

Thanks so much even i'm not going western I did 2 years in a row we never did that stuff mabey if we go agian soon to western then i'll do all that stuff.Good report about the ship because im going in july:D

What is the story on Freeport? Cruise has only 3 stops, shouldn't do this one?

 

 

We went to Freeport on the Liberty last February-- took a cab to Lacaya and spent the time at the free beach located by the sheraton and hit the casino by the shopping center-- was expensive there-- cheaper at home.

 

Cats meow-- located in Majuahaul in Costa Maya.. take a cab to the little fishing villiage== there are lots of bars/restruants across the way from the beach-- this is a nice way to spend your day away from the pier in costa maya which can tend to be pretty crowded.

Honey and I ate at the Tappas place for 10 bucks for both-- which included sodas.

Massages can be found on the beach here all along the stretch of beach-- wait til later in the day- we were able to get 50minute massages for 20 bucks... haggle--

We have reservations for the Comfort Inn in october, why is it a dump?

 

Do a search on the East Coast Departure board and tripadvisor. Seems like this place gets bad reviews.

 

Have you checked out Hotwire? They have a 4* downtown Ft. L/Las Olas/Port Everglades hotel. This is the Renaissance by Marriott, and you can usually get it on Hotwire for about $115 for the night. (This place usually goes for $250-400 for the night) It's a super nice place. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! Directly across from pier. You can read about it on the East Coast board.

What night was formal night, and how many did they have. We are doing this cruise July 15th and WE don't want to get dressed up in the middle of Summer. So what will we be missing in the dinning room that night, if we don't go? Also what was the dress code for the Supper Club?

Do you hve the menus. I see menus listed and wondered what days are for which menus? We depart FL on sunday 11/18 and return saturday 11/24? So do I only look at menus 1-6, or do they rotate 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1,2,......?

 

Dont know if i made sense or not. If not, I'll try to clarify my question.

Hi Radical Ruth

 

We, too, were wondering about the Comfort Inn Airport and Cruise Port. We are also booked there for January, 2008.

 

Could you be more specific about why you thought it was a dump? Dirty room, uncomfortable beds, poor service, no coffee service in room, no room service, no hotel transportation to the pier, etc.?

The place is run down and kind of in a seedy neighborhood. The rooms were relatively clean. The is no restaurant to speak of. My DH and I got to the Inn around 11:00 A.M. Our choice was to order carry out, which we did and then ended up throwing the food we had ordered into the garbage. We found out that there was a mall next door to the place where there was a Taco Bell, McDonald's and down the street there was a Burger There is Mike's Pub, on the premises, which opened up after 2:00 P.M. and around 4:00 they started grilling hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken breast sandwiches, which were good. The Pub was filled with cruisers. Had a great time there, this was the saving grace. Got all kinds of tips from the different cruisers. There was a free shuttle to the cruise port which was nice. For a one night stay, it's bearable!

Will be in Costa Maya in October. What exactly is the Cat's Meow?? Is it just a restaurant? Thanks in advance for your responses.:)

 

 

Yes, it is an open air type restaurant/bar right in the town of Majahal (sp) a $2 taxi ride will get you there.

It also has a sandy beach area with tables & umbrellas.

If it gets a little full, there are plenty of other restaurants if you keep walking straight, we like the Mayan Bar about 1/2 way down the street.

It makes a great little lazy beach day.
