You are correct - even if the cruise was free, the time off was not. For buzy professionals time is never free, the opportunity cost of a lousy vacation is really high..., much higher than the complementary bill.

I agree with you. My husband and I were offered a free cruise on Zenith last year and turned it down. Our time that is available for vacations is somewhat limited, and we would rather spend money on a cruise that we want than take one that we don't want for free.

Tucker's Point Golf Club, Monday a.m.

widest measures only some 600 yards, the Par 70, 18 hole golf course offers scenic delights and plenty of

We're on the 09/08/07 Journey sailing. Really looking forward to a couple rounds in Bermuda.

My problem is "the more I pay, the worse I play!!" LOL

So, I think Tucker's Point for $260 is out of the question. I also hope the prices quoted are in US Dollars and not Pounds.

I have been hoping that since there are two complete cruises that more passengers would share with us. I hope the lack of interest is not due to the disappointment in the cruise.:eek:

My experience has been that when I return from a vacation not many people want to hear about my experience either good or bad. This board is a place where people are passionate and truly want to hear what you have to say.:D

Hope this answers questions that people had.

Cruising and the ship in general:
1. How smooth were the embarkation & debarkation processes? We found both very smooth. This was the fastest embarkation we have ever had.
2. Does the Journey handle well in the Atlantic? We had terrific seas both going and coming home, so the Journey handled very well.
3. Is there anything special about coming in to port in either Hamilton or St George? Yes, St. George is very special. The “CUT” as Bermudans call it is worth seeing. It is a very narrow space for the ship to go thru. You can almost talk to the Bermudians on each side. Is it worth setting an alarm to get up early in the morning to see coming into port? Yes.
4. Are we docked in close to downtown Bermuda? (Hey, someone asked the question...I just put it on the list ) Yes in both ports we are “downtown”.
5. How does quality of service compare with M-class ships? Crew/staff attitude and expertise? We had very good service.
6. Are any of the crew from the original crew or are they all new? Names of Captain's Club host/hostess, future Sales Director, CD, etc.The crew was a combination of people from Oceania, Renaissance, and Celebrity (Zenith). The Captain’s Club Host/future Sales Director was Justin; and the CD was John Howell. The Captain of the ship is Captain Apostolos Bouzakis. Very young and very personable.
7. Number/type of onboard shops 3 shops; 1. The Journey Shop has various sundries and some clothing. 2. Indulgences has perfume, liquor, and cigarettes. 3. Boutique C which has high end jewelry.
8. Does the ship feel as though it just had a multi million dollar retrofit? What were the 3 most impressive things about the Journey compared with other cruise ship that you have been on?
9. What 3 things would you do differently if returning on the Journey

Food and Drink
10. Was there a Captain's cocktail reception? Which night? How formal was it? There was a Senior Officer’s Cocktail party for Elite Members of the Captains Club at 11:30 am in the Prime C restaurant. I did not go, as there was Bingo at the same time, but my husband did. It was not at all formal. There was a gala Bon Voyage toast with the Captain on Monday Evening at 8:30pm. We did not go, as we were having dinner.
11. I assume there are no formal nights, like on Oceania. Am I correct in this? There were no formal nights, but a lot of people wee not told that this ship was “country club casual” and did bring and wear Tuxedos and gowns. Most people did dress up for dinner (men jackets and women dresses or fancy pant suits) It was really a nice sight to see so many dressed up.
12. Dining Room: Organization of open seating in dining room - crowded times, can you request a specific waiter or time for entire cruise? The Dining Room was hectic at 6:00pm; there were long lines at times. If you waited until 6:30/7:00 or even 8:00 it was fine.
13. Tipping experience for waiters- do you tip the waiters if you don't have the same one each night? There was no tipping of waiters; Tips were charged to your on board account and divided among the staff.
14. How is country club casual interpreted? How did folks dress for dinner? See question 11.
15. How easy is it to make "friends" if you are not sitting with the same folks each night? It was easy to make friends, as you are constantly meeting people (at the buffet you usually shared a table. At the different bars, and at activities and events.
16. What are the menus for each night (so people can choose the right nights to try the alternative restaurants) Do they serve lobster one night? I do not remember the menus, but the food was excellent. They do serve Lobster, I believe it was Thursday night. They did not have Filet Mignon on that night (which they usually do), but they had Roast Sirloin and Rack of Lamb (which I had and it was excellent) They had a pasta offering and seafood offering every night.
17. The specialty restaurants:
a. How would you rate experience (cost, food, service)? Sample menus? What will be the price points and or upgraded choices? Our experience was awesome. We ate in Aqualina. Azamara gave each stateroom a free meal at either Aqualina or Prime C. It was very hard to get into Prime C, unless you wanted to wait until 9 or 9:30. So, our experience was free. You could get a special meal with all the wines that went with each course for $50.00. No one in our party chose that.
b. any half-price nights? How easy or difficult is it to get reservations, and can Captain Club members make them in advance? No half price nights that I heard of. As I said it was difficult to get into Price C unless you wanted 9:00 or 9:30. Captain Club members can make reservations in advance.
c. What are the best nights to go to the specialty restaurant on a 7 day Bermuda cruise I don’t think there is any “best night” to go. Any night would be fine.
18. Where is the equivalent of the Martini Bar? The Martini Bar is just outside the Discoveries dining room. Most people waited there to be seated for dinner.
19. Cost of drinks onboard We thought the drinks were high. The drink of the day was $6.00. Non-Alcoholic special were $5.00. Wines prices ranged from 7.00 to 12.00 per glass. We thought the price of Martinis were expensive, but we rarely have them as we are Scotch drinkers. I had a Cosmopolitan that was $12.00.
20. I am curious to know if they are going to allow smoking in Michaels Club No smoking in Michael’s Club. There were only 2 places you could smoke on Journey, and that was aft section portside of the Looking Glass Lounge and on the starboard section of the pool deck.

Cabins
21. Did the verandah cabins feel roomy? What was storage space like? Can the partitions between balconies of adjoining stateroom be opened? What kind of furniture do they have on the verandas? The Verandah’s were smaller that what we were used to, but that didn’t make any difference to us. We had plenty of storage space, and there was actually on drawer we didn’t have to use. There were plenty of shelves in the small bathroom also.
22. For the forward Royal Suites and SV cabins - Is the balcony very windy when the ship is actually sailing? N/A to us
23. For the aft Penthouse Suites and SV cabins on Deck 8 - Can you hear noise from the restaurant above? N/A to us
24. Comfort of the bedding Bedding was very comfortable. There were 6 pillows on the bed (2 of which were throw pillows) There was a Down comforter on the bed and the mattress was very comfortable.
25. Since everyone has butler service, is it anything special? If you didn't use the butler is the tipping still expected? Do you tip both the room stewart and the butler? How does the butler service in a suite compare to that in an M or C class suite? We often stay at sandals resorts with fantastic butler service, can anyone compare land to ship butler service? We did have a Butler. He wore a tuxedo with tails. He delivered our fruit and appetizers every afternoon. If you were not in your room or you had the “do not disturb” sign in your door, he did not leave them.
26. Perks for suite passengers? DVDs in suites? New sky suite, if anyone stays in one, please let us know comments and pics if possible. N/A to us.
27. Is there a self service laundry on board? No
28. Is the Journey accessible for wheelchairs? We saw several wheel chairs and they didn’t seem to have any problems.

Entertainment and activities
29. Entertainment? Ballroom Dancing venue? Big Band Night? The Journey Orchestra did play Swing Band on Saturday night, and Dance Band on Tuesday evening.
30. Is there a disco on board? (oh please say YES!) Yes, in the Looking Glass Lounge
31. Aerobics classes in fitness center? fee and no fee? There are Aerobic classes; don’t know if there is a fee.
32. Any Spa experiences? Was there a steam room? Nice Showers? How was the massage? N/A to us.
33. Any yoga classes on board, free or for a fee. Yes, Yoga and Pilates; $10.00 fee
34. Was there a craps table in the casino and, if yes, what are the minimums and odds? N/A to us
35. Just read on the Quest post that the library will only be a bar at night and still used as the library during the day. Is smoking allowed in that room then? If so, did it reek with smoke during the day? Michael’s Club is a library during the day, and a bar at night. No smoking allowed at any time.
36. What kind of activities do they have on sea days? What are some activities, places on the ship not to miss? There are several types of trivia games; Mask making for Party Gras White night; Movies; Ping Pong; Bingo; Wine Appreciation Seminar; Country Line Dancing; Karaoke; Battle of the sexes; There was daily Catholic Mass at 8:00am every day, and on Friday there was a Jewish Sabbath Service at 5:15pm.
37. Kids program. Do they have one? Is there any kids designated lounge or activity area? (Counterpoint – Are kids annoying in this cruise?) Yes they did have a kids program, it was held in the Looking Glass starboard. Kids were not annoying.
38. Swimming pool hours? Are there enough chairs by the pool for everyone? How was the pool area during the day as far as stupid intrusions go, i.e. daft games!!! Hopefully they leave folks in peace apart from...do they still do a sorbet parade? Pools were open from 7:00am to 8:00pm. There seemed to be enough chairs. I don’t sit in the sun, so it looked OK to me. There were only 2 or 3 pool intrusions. No sorbet parade.
39. Is the pool / whirlpool accessible for physically challenged individuals? Do not know.
40. How were the shore excursions? Do not know, as we did not do any ship excursions.
41. Any and all information about the golf program for Bermuda on board?. N/A to us.

Oops did not mean to quote you. That was a very informative post. You nentioned a mask making for a mardi gras night. I never know in advance about any theme nights. Were there several and how do I learn about them- for any cruise line since I seem to go on all.

They had a mask making party for the "Party Gras White Night Dance Party" which was held on Wednesday night at 10:45pm. Price of admission was to wear something white, and bring mask or they would paint you face. This was the same night that the street fair was held in Hamilton, and you could also get your face painted by one of the Bermudians. This was held in the Looking Glass lounge.

 

We did not go, as it was so late, but I had fun making the mask.

 

There was also a Rock and roll night on Saturday, the first night out. The staff all wore clothes of the sixties (poodle skirts).:D
