Kayaking in Ketchikan

Does anyone have recommendations on kayaking in Ketchikan?

Princess offers 2 trips. One to Pennock Island and the other to Tatoosh Island.

I also found online Southeast Sea kayaking tours which offers a cheaper version of the Pennock Island tour or an Orca's Cove tour.

Any recommendations on any of these trips or other kayaking trips is appreciated.

Southeast Sea Kayaking would be a good option, usually less than the ship tour. Have done Orca Cove but not the others so can't compare. As a novice kayaker this one was a good first choice. This was a while back and we booked through cruise line, it was easier and not as much info on the boards back in the mid-90s!

Can anyone who has been either kayaking or canoeing tell me if you are sitting down on your butt, or kneeling on your knees? We are considering doing one of these 2 things, but my husband's knees will NOT allow him to kneel for even a short while. I thought that for both these sports you are sitting with your legs straight out. Thanks for any info.

No kneeling. I have gone with Southeast Kayaking- great company. If you book direct, you can also possibility request an "open" kayak - if they still have them, It gives quite a bit more "knee" room.

We booked direct for our kayaking excursion in Haines. We asked for single kayaks, since we paddle better separately. We're both 6'3", and don't have any problems with knee room in the closed kayaks.

Im interested in doing some Kayaking but my wife is worried about tipping over or "rolling." How stable are these kayaks, and does she have anything to fear? Neither of us have ever been so I cant do much to reassure her. She doesnt want to be stuck in the kayak, upside down.

We did the Princess Tattosh Islands kayaking Last August. It was great! I had never been in a kayak, and felt the guides took all the time I needed to be comfortable. They said they only avg. one flip over a season. It's easy to get out of the kayak if you flip. They also tell you all you need to know not to flip. Deb

Can people describe what they scenery was like? It looked (fromthe webpitcures) that the Pennock Island was nothing amazing, but I cant tell from the shots of Orcas Cove and Tatoosh Island.

DeborahQ, Caroline, and Budget Queen can you describe your trips? The Views, the wildlife, etc...

Mirclemet, We took a fast boat ride from a small cove.Which had large starfish that you could see at the pier. The small island we set up our gear on had a small beach and alot of trees. We got a 20 minute orientation to kayaking. Then into the water. It was fun. We'd all gotten the tip on the trip from cruise critic fans. Only one couple hadn't been talking on cruisecritic.com. There were seals playing with us on our trip. I really enjoyed it.Only downside is we had no time to see Ketitchan. It was back to the boat and onward.Deb
