katisdale Posted August 31, 2004 #26 Share Posted August 31, 2004 OK, this is gross. I do have a "good" buffet comment. On the Royal this spring a woman went down the line at lunch coughing constantly with no handkerchief covering her mouth and picked up two pieces of fruit which she returned to the line after checking them for "ripeness" as well as other food. The crew came out to the front of the line and stopped others from continuing while they took up the food that was sitting out. She was escorted out by a man who looked like a head waiter. It took them about 10 minutes to bring out fresh food.
catmand Posted August 31, 2004 #27 Share Posted August 31, 2004 There isn't a heck of a lot I can add but. Yes, people look at me like I am nuts when I open a mens room door with my sleeve, or a paper towel. I also will handle the pick up tongs in the buffet with a napkin. kendon Posted August 31, 2004 #28 Share Posted August 31, 2004 This thread could only get worse and never end! Any of us who have worked in food service have all too many stories to tell. So........let's not bring them up. As for buffets, we can't change the poor behaviors of some, but we could only use common sense and keep our eyes open. crsshiplover Posted August 31, 2004 #29 Share Posted August 31, 2004 I totally agree with Kendon! Food service is only one place to begin to think of the germs, etc.
psupa Posted August 31, 2004 #30 Share Posted August 31, 2004 Yuck! How disgusting. I'll be on the CP in a few weeks and for sure will not use the ice in the buckets. I've gotten into the habit of carrying the small travel size hand sanitizer in my purse or pocket. Comes in handy. I also have a large pump size at my desk and am always using it. I'll make sure I have it on the CP as well. Thanks for the warning.
spongerob Posted August 31, 2004 #31 Share Posted August 31, 2004 These ships are built and equipped in Europe. I don't think they use nearly as much ice as we do over here. Why no one has figured that out and come up with a different plan is beyond me. You could probably go out to the Terrace Bar and ask for a big glass of ice there. My wife and I have pretty much decided that we don't want any part of buffets in general, and on any ship in particular. Sadly, this is yet another little tale that demonstrates how very little personal responsibility is taken by some people. Add another cheerleader's, "EEWWW!!" to the comments. Jacqueline Posted August 31, 2004 #33 Share Posted August 31, 2004 I noticed HAL has a good system. The stewards filled about 2 dozen glasses of both ice tea and ice water and had them availble right away. So much FASTER than waiting behind people and more sanitary too. They go fast so they are always COLD. I hope that there is some way we can get this thread to management so that this problem can be corrected.
