Kicked Off Ship

I agree that I see kids running about without their parents, but I would also not simply jump to the conclusion that just because four or five kids are at a table in Windjammer, or in the pool, or playing pingpong that there is no parent there simply because none are joined to the kids at the hip.

One formal night "the girls" (my 12YO DD and her five other 12YO friends) dressed up and went to the Windjammer together rather than joining their parent's in the DR -- The girls were on their own table, but one or more parent was a "respectiful" distance away the whole time. Similarly when four nasty adults decided to try to "kick them out" of their seats at one of the shows, the mom who was sitting one row back from them, helped them explain (respectfully -- even though the adults in question were being quite rude!) that they not only were in a row where they could sit HAD they been unaccompanied, but also that they were NOT unaccompanied.

There were multiple parents and at least one of us was nearby wheneverthe girls were doing anything outside of the teen club activities. We did let them go from one cabin to another as a group, but there was a parent at either end in those cases. Sometimes they would be in one of our cabins as a group without an adult in the cabin or the library for a predefined period of time, but 1) they knew they could not leave without an adult with them and 2) an adult might check in at just about any time.

So, yes, I did know how my tween behaved the entire time she was on vacation.

BTW - am I "one ssa" or "on essa" (in which case what is a "essa")?

I truly think more parents should read your post. Kids will be kids but parents need to be parents and your way of parenting is to be commended. Even the best of children of all ages make wrong choices once in a while. Thats why they are called children. They do not always THINK before they act and thats why most GOOD kids get in trouble. Keep up the good work and it will pay off for them and you.

I assumed it was "one ssa", but you were partially dislexic . . . ? :D

Ah - then you should try Princess.... they have a fear of being sued, so they don't like to reprimand anyone for destructive or unsafe behavior.

Cruise contract says they can do it, and I applaud RCCL for holding to it. Perhaps if Princess had, I would still be sailing with them today. Instead, their fear of being sued for discrimination of a family caused many people to have the satisfaction of their vacation lowered significantly.

Couldn't agree more, suziehmkr! That's one of the reasons I've taken my last Princess cruise. Same for Carnival. In fact, last (and I do mean LAST) Carnival cruise I took, there was a couple cruise staff member who should have been put off in port as well because of her lack of action with dangerously ill-behaved children.

I am impressed and thrilled with the way that RCCL has chosen to step up to the plate and start handling these situations in an adult manner. They have earned my respect - and my money and time. Their actions should be rewarded and they will be by me - they will certainly get all my future cruise business.

ok smarty pants...... no, the 38 is really 38 years old. Sometimes I feel like I was born in 38. I truly hope I don't look the part.
Don't feel bad, I was born in 28. I guess I am one of those Blue Hairs another poster didn't like, oh well, it beats the alternative. LOL

Kids may drive you crazy....BUT my wife is cruising me crazy. Note the dates of our cruises. It all started in 02 and she has book cruise after cruise while on a cruise. We actually had more cruises booked, but we had to cancel for one reason or another.

Rancher Dave...I love the picture!! My son goes to UT in Austin...go Longhorns! I hope you dont mind but I sent my son the link to your page.

Rumor is a pretty cow, her horns look almost like the Hook 'em sign, gosh that may be why I picked her as my first cow purchase...:D

Her calf is Miracle. Both live with the other 25 on my ranch about 60-75 minutes from UT campus.

What is really funny, is among the Longhorn breeders, most I know are actually Aggies and only a few of us are actually UT Grads. Ironically my Masters is from USF Tampa, the Bulls.

Happy Holidays!!!

I have never had room service call and comfirm my order or time.

We've ordered breakfast from the room service menu many, many times and, not once, did anyone call to verify the order and time of delivery!

They did for me each morning I ordered it on recent AoS cruise. For what it's worth. I'm sure we'll be on another topic by the time I get to the end of this thread.

  • 4 weeks later...

Found this on 'Cruise Junkie.' Thought it was rather interesting.

From a passenger: I was travelling with my family for the New Year holiday on the ship, departing Miami December 29. There were 10 other family members on board the ship with me. I was playing in the casino and got into an argument with some high rollers in the casino on the departing night, Saturday (12/29). There was no physical altercation just an argument. Security broke up the argument and I was asked to leave the casino and went back to my cabin around 1:30am. The high roller threatened me and a security guard was placed outside my cabin overnight. The next day I was called by Guest Relations around 9:45pm and was told to meet Security in the back room at the front desk at 7:00 am Monday, which was the first port of call. There were several gentlemen present at the meeting (head of security, guest relations) and I was told that I have 45 minutes to pack my bags and get off the ship and that I was a security risk to the ship. I packed my bags and was escorted to the dining room. In the dining room there were immigration officials who had to approve of my disembarkation. Although I objected to being thrown off the ship and although the immigration officials also didn't approve of my being thrown off the ship, officials from the cruise line handed an envelope with $1,000 cash in it to the immigration official and I was then escorted off the ship to a small boat then transferred to Labadee (private reserve on the island of Haiti). I was put in a golf cart and driven to the end of a fenced in area to a waiting jeep. Inside the jeep were machine gun armed guards and the driver. I was driven from a locked compound in Labadee, Haiti to a run down deserted landing strip where there was a turbo propeller plane waiting for me. On the ride to the landing strip I was advised to duck down for my safety. I was scared for my life and thought I was going to die. I was then escorted onto the turbo prop and was flown from Haiti to Fort Lauderdale, taking 3 hours. I then transferred onto a commercial airliner at my cost and arrived home Monday night. FYI, Haiti is listed on the US State Departments list of countries for Americans to avoid. NOTE: According to posters at Cruise Critic, a similar offloading of passengers at Labadee (from Gandeur of the Seas) occurred in November 2007. And in December (ship unknown) a couple was offloaded in the Bahamas -- the male passenger complained about cold overcooked fish and was offered a cocktail and another meal; he then received another cold piece of fish and a bill for the cocktail. He became indignant and probably boisterous and when security showed up he was manhandled and ended up being put ashore in the Bahamas along with his partner.

And of course we are only hearing one side of the story here. What you wanna bet that there is a lot more to be told than what these folks are telling?:)

Oh......I am sure there is much more to the story as well! There was another post a few days ago about a Dad getting kicked off the ship and his 9 year old had to stay back with the grandparents. Not sure if these two are related.

Does this person have x-ray vision or are we to believe that an official received a bribe, took it out of the envelope, and counted it in front of the "wronged" party?

Sounds like this person left out a whole lot of pertinent details which would probably not reflect well on him and/or his behavior.

Captain Himself Made Annoncement About Labadee!!

Haven't read the rest of the thread yet, but I'd be willing to bet the Captain was being humourous - left them in Labadee, (cut off from everything else, so they could not be a problem anywhere else either....:D:D)

On the BOS a few years ago, myself and a few fellow pax came to the aid of a man who was beat up while walking up the stairs. Security was going to kick him off, then we explained that 2 of the men in the altercation had just been kicked out of the disco for trying to start a fight. The 2 men and their families were removed from the ship and the gentleman who was assaulted allowed to stay onboard. The cruise lines need to be more consistant with the punishments, as well as what are debarking offenses.
