AAAMom Posted January 19, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2008 I know the Freedom class and Voyager class ships have Cingular/AT&T.
GMoney Posted January 19, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2008 Majesty offers Cellular at Sea. I think almost all RCI ships do now. Regardless, I would rethink using your cell phone for an alarm. You can incur unexpected fees by leaving you phone on. If you choose to do so, be sure to disable all data / voice functions by going into airplane mode if you have it. Better yet, just use the phone in your stateroom to schedule an automated wake up call.
GMoney Posted January 19, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2008 Another thought - even if you can get a signal at sea, there's no guarantee you'll get a signal in your cabin. You may need to be on an outer deck to pick up the signal.
webnut Posted January 19, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2008 Just a thought...I don't know how you would set your phone to "ship's time". My clock automatically sets for whatever time zone I'm in. I guess you could figure out the time difference and set the alarm, but that's too much thinking for me when alcohol may be involved!!! :D I got a cheapie travel alarm clock at Ikea for about $1 and we used that. I was on Grandeur in November and my Cingular/ATT worked in Labadee for $2.50/minute.
IBelongInTheTropics8 Posted January 19, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2008 not exactly sure what ships have service but they do have alarm clocks in the staterooms, and im sure you can arange a wake up call also.

worktocruise08 Posted January 19, 2008 Author #9 Share Posted January 19, 2008 thanks guys.. I have a travel alarm clock we use but the sound is so low that we sometimes we dont here it. Using my phone was just a thought. I was advised to call the carrier and turn everything off and then back on when i get back home, text and calls etc... while i agree its a hassle i was just looking at all options. I also have never seen an alarm clock in the RCL rooms that I have had..
GMoney Posted January 19, 2008 #10 Share Posted January 19, 2008 If you have an iPod, I believe they have an alarm function...not sure though.
cb at sea Posted January 19, 2008 #11 Share Posted January 19, 2008 We only use our cell phone's alarm feature on the last night/morning--we keep it turned off once we leave our home port. Even if there is a signal, it's expensive. And, even if you don't answer the phone and someone texts you , you will be charged! They have wake-up calls if you really need to be awakened on vacation! Kellie Poodle Posted January 19, 2008 #12 Share Posted January 19, 2008 I hope this works. http://*****.com/2dnvug This should send you to Verizon Wireless's site where it shows which cruise ships have their service on board. I believe most of the line does. It's not inexpensive!
robtx100 Posted January 19, 2008 #13 Share Posted January 19, 2008 Here is a link that lists all the cruise ships covered by Sprint. http://www.nextel.com/en/services/worldwide/cruise_ship_roaming_sprint.shtml
max227 Posted January 19, 2008 #14 Share Posted January 19, 2008 T-Mobile works from the ships. $4.50 a minute. Also nearly all Caribbean ports T-Mobile will work in. $1.49 a minute. Just call T-Mobile and they will set your phone for free.
Miss Vickie Posted January 20, 2008 #15 Share Posted January 20, 2008 Cell phones normally pick up their time from the nearest tower. I got strong signal both in and out of my cabin on Serenade last week, but my time and date were something odd - someother date, year and time entirely. Our tablemates showed the same time - doesn't appear that they've programmed the date and time correctly on the tower, at least on that ship. Quampapetet Posted January 20, 2008 #16 Share Posted January 20, 2008 Some cell phones/SmartPhones you can set the time to whatever you need it to be (or want it to be, LOL!). If that is the case of the OP's phone, she can turn the phone part off (sometimes called "airplane mode") and keep the device itself on to be used as an alarm clock. I use a separate travel alarm clock from my phone (though it can be set to whatever I want, if I wanted it that way [i have my carrier set it]). It wasn't expensive, but it is nice and loud (volume adjustable, too).
Disneynutbsv Posted January 20, 2008 #17 Share Posted January 20, 2008 It would cost me $2.49/minutes to use my phone on board. I really have no need to use it, but it would be for emergencies only.
IBelongInTheTropics8 Posted February 7, 2008 #18 Share Posted February 7, 2008 i recieved the folloing email from RCI... Dear Ms. -----, Thank you for your email. There are alarm clocks in all the staterooms. You may also use our free wake up call services. You will find all this information in the stateroom when you check in. Thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International. Dayna Bolton Customer Service Representative
cb at sea Posted February 7, 2008 #19 Share Posted February 7, 2008 Well-I've never seen an alarm clock, although our phone had a digital clock on it. (I've never actually needed an alarm on a cruise, except for the last morning, and we, too use our phone for that!) Maybe it's something new??? PhoenixCruiser Posted February 7, 2008 #20 Share Posted February 7, 2008 Another great response from Customer Service  Royal does not provide alarm clocks. There is a clock on the phone and you can arrange for a wake-up call. ###

PhoenixCruiser Posted February 7, 2008 #25 Share Posted February 7, 2008 ha ha...i take it that RCI does not completely tell the truth in their CS emails? Well, I think that most of the CS agents have never cruised no matter what cruise line they work for. Perhaps they tell you what you want to hear. ###
