Celebrity Likely Adding Casino Surcharge For Cash Advances
You're right, of course. I was addressing this point:

...and trying to explain the justification for why casinos would want to reward those who are up. I wasn't as accurate about the mechanics of it as I should have been.
Drew in the casinos on cruise ships there are staff that tend to the slot machines. They watch, beleive me they watch, ands they have to physically pay out on those machine when the win is that good. When any of those machines start to pay out too much, the machine gets shut down.

Doesn't mean the player or a winner on it should be exempt from a perk though!

If you have an OBC or balance in your shipboard account, they should not charge you for casino withdrawals up to that amount.

As it is, we will simply bring cash for the casino in lieu of getting an advance. If there is still a positive balance in our account at the end of the cruise, it will be credited to our charge card.

Fortunately (or not, I suppose), this is not a big issue for us as we spend very little money in the casino because of the smoke.

Maybe the cruiseline should pay us 3% on the money we put down as a deposit on a cruise until such time as final payment is made.;)

Happy Sails to You

As far as perks are concerned...I've been given free drinks and have had bottles of wine sent to our suite by the Casino manager and staff. It was nice, especially after a night of having a lot of fun, laughs etc. not necessarily winning.
I have to ask some of these high rollers who get all the perks in the casino: Wouldn't it just be a whole lot cheaper just to save all the money you gamble away at the tables, and just buy your drinks/wine/dinners in specialty restaurants? All I can think is that you must be making quite a contribution at the casino! Hope this doesn't offend anyone.:o
Usha:

In the long run for high rollers it is probably better to just spend your money at restaurants or drinks, dinners, etc as you suggest. That is why the casinos are in business and doing so well. It is just like any entertainment that people are involved in but it involves money. I have watched people at casinos and you have to remember that for some, spending 20 or 30 dollars a spin on a slot machines is like the average person spending a quarter. Some just have the money. You should watch some day in the high rollers section of a casino and you would not believe what happens. It is a whole different world than we are used to.

I had a big win at a casino and I get free comps, etc but you have to be smart. When I won my money, I swore I would not be one of these people who goes through it quickly and winds up divorced in a couple of years. We still go to the casinos mostly for entertainment purposes but we know when to walk away, not to play up and keep a limit on what we spend. We enjoy ourselves and spend quality time alone. We also do vacations without casinos.

I think Celebrity has just done me a favor. We don't carry a lot of cash, and I can't be bothered with Travelers Checks, so we will be staying out of the casino. It seems they haven't done this fleetwide yet, though. I was just on Summit for the TA and drew cash to play with in the casino and was not charged a fee. The trip was 3/29/08-4/10/08 so that falls within the same timeframe as Host Andy. Having said that, they may institute it on the first cruise after the dry dock (which it is in right now).

I think it's a "penny wise, pound foolish" move on their part, but they don't ask my opinion when they change policy.

The cruise was great! Thanks for asking!

A hex on all those Galaxy nay-sayers who had me half scared to death about booking her! She's a beautiful ship and maintained very well. Clean as a whistle! The crew was excellent, as expected, and in good spirits....many going home for visits and the rest getting a couple of weeks off!

There was a few signs of the dry dock coming up, but nothing that interfered with our enjoyment of the cruise. I thought the food was very good, only had a couple of items not to my liking. The soups were delicious....they need to keep that soup chef around!

We are exhausted from all those ports, I actually skipped Donimica (been there before) and did a spa day, otherwise there wouldn't have been much time to enjoy the ship.

I would be happy to cruise on the Galaxy again.

I'm a freak and don't like waffles (a serious waffle accident in my youth left me unable to eat them!!)....but hubby seemed to enjoy them very much. :D

I'm a muesli for breakfast girl. I love it and Celebrity makes it so good. I also love having corned beef hash and a freshly made over medium egg. Dang it, where is my muesli this morning!!!!
