Best TIP I have learned from reading CC NCL boards

Thought it was time for another fun thread.....

The best two tips I have learned:

1) ALWAYS buy Travel Insurance! I never have before, but certainly will in future.

2) Really loved the idea of giving phone cards as a tip - just a little something, even $5.00 cards....to great service - maybe to enhance service early on in the trip....room stewards...bar tenders....servers....

Think I will start picking up one every once in awhile from the grocery store...

And a wealth of information that I would not begin to try to list!:D

Thanks CC Members!

1. Go to the dining room for lunch when you board and have a nice leisurely meal instead of dealing with the zoo at the buffet

2. Take your bathing suits in your carry on so you can enjoy the pools and hot tubs as soon as you board and not have to wait for your luggage to arrive.

Let's see I have so many but the most important ones I think would be:

1) You are allowed to get on the ship earlier then they tell you.

2) Tip to bring a an extra bag in your main suitcase, so you can bring the things off you need that last day after you put out your suitcase

3) the port board with all the great excursion info. All my best tours were booked from CC tips and suggestions. This is # 1

3) bring and alarm clock and extension cord.

...as for the phone cards, I did that a few years ago and gave them out to our waiter (who looked at me and asked what was he supposed to do with it) and our steward, who had no comment!! I told the waiter to call home with it and he looked at me very perplexed! I told him to give it to his room mate!!

Oh, there are so many good tips I've gotten here - some already mentioned. Like the private exercusion information. Couple of others are where and when to go to be among the first to get tender tickets and to request an extra blanket to use on the balcony on our Alaskan cruise. And some great tips on souveniers in various ports. I'd never heard of an ulu knife before reading up before Alaska - now I use it all the time.

Ask for an outside treatment room in the spa. There's no price difference and you get the view.

Take a "pop up" laundry bag and put in the closet to stay organized.

Join the "players club" in the casino even if you don't earn enough points for a prize - you will still get free drinks.

New info! Where can I buy a "pop up" laundry bag prior to leaving in 2 days?

How do I join the "players club" in the casino, and how much does it cost?

Thanks for new info!!

While i agree with the insurance aspect, I do not agree with the phone cards. Nothing says thank you like cash.

I agree, I would think cash is much better!

And slotaddict - I like your saying "The Highway of Life is full of flat squirrels who could not make up their mind." In Arizona, I call them "bunny pancakes" since we don't have many squirrels!

Players Club costs nothing. It is just like any casino on land. They give you a card and you put it in the slot machine you are playing. The more money you put in the more points you get.

Forget Target or Walmart, your local dollar store should have them. Fantastic to put in the corner of the room to toss laundry in. Keeps it from being tossed all over the room, or having to keep pulling the suitcases out from under the bed.

No charge to join the players club. Just check at the desk in the casino. Don't count on those free drinks the other poster talked about tho. I have a card and used it a lot on my cruise and was never offered a free drink.

Best suggestion I read was take a shoe holder and put it over the bathroom door to hold all your " things " meds, camera, lotions, make up and even shoes . It saved what little counter space is in the bathroom , and its all so handy. There were tons of ideas but this was the best for me > Thanks to all of you !

I have the over the door bag, thanks. Although the design of it seems a bit too heavy.

I'll check out the "pop up" hampers tomorrow; oh well, no lunch during lunch hour!

Chris told me she was never offered a free drink in the casino either. I guess it depends on the ship and/or sailing. I'll try it once I guess.

Cash for tips (no longer phone cards).., post-it notes for room stewards (you do not always see room stewards in the hall), lysol wipes for phone, door handles, TV clicker, etc., duct tape in your carry-on.

Pop-up hampers are even sold in supermarkets. Great for any hotel stay:)

Are "pop up" hampers labeled as such, or is there some other word/phrase I should be looking for?

I believe they are labeled as "pop-up"...I have college kids so that is why I know about them.

They are "folded" in the package for sale so you have to look for them. Not out on display.

Look in the aisle that has hangers, college stuff...it's all on display now.

They even have "double" ones....we bring a double and seperate our white wash items from our colored wash items;) So easy to pack when returning home.

Thanks, Cosmo! Should we then throw the "dirty laundry" into large Ziplock bags to transport home? I think that would make the most sense. Compress that dirty stuff.:)
