How do you remove wrinkles from your formal wear?

Recommended Posts

There is a spray that you can get at the grocery store. You might consider paying a couple bucks and have it pressed while on the ship.

We smuggle on an iron. Always leave it out in plain sight. Have not had any problems.

I take a steam iron that I bought at market. It just uses water and salt. It is wonderful!! It doesn't get hot like an iron.. and when it is placed on its side, or flat it turns itself off. You can even use the steamer on Linen and Silk. The address of the company is

B & B Enterprises

2705 W Lincoln

Anaheim, Ca 92801

The wrinkle spray is Downy Wrinkle Releaser. We took it and DH used on his dress shirts. It seemed to work ok... I wouldn't use the spray on formal wear.

God bless you and yours.

We brought our steamer (got it brand new on Ebay for about $10) and it doesn't use salt, but makes steam like crazy. Gets wrinkles out really well. However, when it came to our formal wear, we had it pressed by houekeeping. Very inexpensive and a great job.

A friend gave me a great tip about this - if you take your shirts to the cleaners and have them wash them in medium starch, and leave them in the bags - they'll look perfect when you unpack them. And it worked!

I'm supposed to take out the wrinkles before I wear the clothes????? Why, the wrinkles come right back when I wear the clothes.... icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

Never had anyone look at me and say, Oh my! Look at those wrinkles--how tacky! Life's too short and I don't get to cruise enough to worry about the small stuff icon_cool.gif.

Hi,

That is what I do in a hotel room. I turn on the tub and fill it with hot water, hang the clothes on the shower curtain rod and close the bathroom door. It works wonders.

But, where do you possibly hang them in the bathroom on the ship? I have never found a place to hang them yet on 20 cruises.

Please clue me in. icon_confused.gif Thanks

My daughters brought gowns that you would think were going to be a wrinlked mess, but on the boards some posted about covering your clothes with the plastic covers that the dry cleaner pits over your dry cleaning orders. It worked PERFECTLY. I went to our dry cleaners and got 10 for 20 cents.

smile0808...that is what I did on my last cruise...my gown was covered in that plastic covering...I couldn't believe how wrinkled it was when I opened it in the cabin...I had it in a garment bag...and where you fold the garment back in half...the dress was a wrinkled mess...I paniced for only a short minute...until my cabin steward, Jose came to introduce himself...and took it off my hands...$6 (Carnival), and it came back beautiful!!!

If you're talking about ladies formal wear, just make sure that you check the care tag before having it steamed and/or pressed. I've run into a few dresses that discouraged steaming, and some fabrics don't hold up well to the heat from pressing them. Also, the wrinkle releaser spray might spot the fabric, so I'd test that before using it.

So far I always gave my formal wear to the dry cleaning before the cruise. It wrinkeled in the suitcase again of course. On my last cruise I recognized that it was much cheaper to give it to the ships laundry tham to do it at home. Now the ships laundry is my choice and I don´t have to worry about wrinkels from packing.

All the ships I've been on have had that clothesline that stretches across the shower, I just hang the hangers on that and clothes the shower door or pull the curtain and clothes the bathroom door. It really gets the wrinkles out.

I have had such great luck packing all my clothes including formal gowns in 2 gallon zip lock bags. Amazing. No wrinkles when I unpack to speak of at all. I pack each outfit together and the airport inspection is so much easier and neater. Packing is so easy this way. I don't seem to forget as much.
