Its not normal, but it does happen. Usually it works out to your benefit and you get a better cabin when the assignment is this late. You will have to report back to us what you got to confirm the trend or not. :D

I have had this happen several time.

Just a little thing to do to help save time at the port. Make some sticky labels with your name address and phone number on them. When you get to the port, stick these on the tags the porters five you for your bags and you will only have to write in the number. I always take some to put on the tags for the bags I sit out the night before.
