I just saw this thread Today, Thursday, 4:28 pm EDT, 5/15--I clicked on the link to the menu, and there it was. I did not recall seeing anyone post on this thread that they had been on a cruise, went to Portofino, and was told that the skewer had been discontinued? Or is this a reaction to something that was, or perhaps was but is no longer, posted on a web page?

We love the skewer. We also love the filet. Can't believe it has been two months, but yes, it has been that long since we were on the Mariner of the Seas, and we went to Portofino the first night and the last night, and enjoyed the skewer on embarkation night.

Um how do you eat that?

When we had it on the Mariner, our waiter does a presentation of sorts and plates it for you taking the lobster from the tail as well. Quite eye catching to watch. But I must say it was just okay taste wise for us.

I agree. It wasn't earth shattering. :(

Maybe because you have to pay extra for it ,it enhances the taste for some people?

They still offer them in the main dining room the full tail if you call it that i called it about a bite and a half. And you got a full tail on the skewer also along with salmon, shrimp and scallops.

The lobster tail that they used to serve in Portofinos had nothing in common with the thing they serve in the dining room, other than the name "lobster" it was huge, I think from Australia and I had left overs. Much bigger than a bite and half.

For months I've been thinking about that thing and tonight days before i archive a attempt to enjoy it i discover it's not on the new menu. Whats next no more waffles? For those who want the new menu here it is direct from RCCL's website (requires adobe acrobat) or see below

Now don't get me wrong I don't cruise just for food, but it's been over a year in planning and well I'm a bit disappointed I guess tomorrow at work i'll have to make my own seafood skewer. Who has a sword i can borrow ?

The Seafood Skewer was on the menu on Adventure last week. Also, when I click on the link you provided, it's on the menu that comes up when I do it.

When I was there last in september I wanted it, but because there were scallops on them I could not have them. I have a severe allergy to scallops and can not have anything even marinated next to them. So since I can not have it, I will not miss it.

For the future, you can ask them to substitute the scallops for something else. We don't like salmon so we ask for an extra lobster tail and they will gladly do it for you.

Your absolutely right!! I remember we used to get surf and turf........wasn't on the menu that way but we asked for the filet mignon along with the lobster order and the lobster was out of this world........so is their filet! I was actually disappointed that they took the lobster dinner away and are doing the skewers. I usually get the shrimp risotto as an appetizer so I don't want more shrimp for dinner and I don't like salmon. DH usually orders the skewer and just ask them to leave the salmon off and give him an extra tail since they are small - the last few times I ordered the filet mignon.

I enjoy the appetizers so much that I don't care about the dinner........I'm usually full before the dinner gets there. I love the bean soup........it's the best and the pear salad is awsome............. DH always gets the caesar salad. We never have room for dessert but they always bring us something little to share.......... Geez, I'm gaining weight just typing about their food! LOL:D
