Aft balcony experiences needed...

I have my 1st aft booked for 2010:D Hopefully I will have all the positive experiences and not the negative. I would hate for people to be peeping down into my balcony, not that I would be doing anything;) We are also on the upper and I worried about the karaoke lounge but we'll have to wait and see. Maybe that will keep us out later at nite. Also gonna watch for the 2 cat upgrade and see if there is an aft available then.

Someone said there was a lounge chair. Is there enough room on an aft, not wrap, just regular?

Hey Paulie:) You're doing an aft on S & S 4....cool....

I could jump Victory ship and join the grope on the Destiny:D

Gonna call Carnival tonite and get some info...

Just Do It!!!

Oh, don't get me started on aft balconies. When you awake in the morning the debris and garbage is halfway up the door. Ciggie butts, n crushed packs, half eaten hot dogs and burgers. Beer cans, smashed cherries and umbrellys from them fro fro drinks. Bathing suit tops......and bottoms. And all covered in a two foot layer of soot from the stack. Like a pile of black snow.

And the vibrations, it'll blur your vision, maybe permanently.

There are a few of us that are willing to sacrifice ourselves for the good of all, so we stay in these horrors so no one else has to.

Best leave these cabins to us iron willed and steel hearted volunteers.

Dan

You sir, are a saint!!!

:D:rolleyes::p

Thinking about an aft, but I know the ol' lady wouldn't like people being able to see down on us from the decks above. How much privacy do the aft balconies give and if privacy is a main concern, then would you book an aft balcony?

I realize that there are a lot of people out there who book early just to get an aft cabin. However, I'm not one of them. Every morning we would fill up our plastic trash can with water and take turns dumping them on the chairs that were covered with soot. Also we had a lot of debris from the deck above. I do have to say that the people looking down on you from the Lido deck above were always nice and waved.

We just got back from The Miracle 5/25 and we had an aft and loved every moment of it. We were on deck 5 cabin 5268 and felt no real rocking motion or had any loud noises. The sound from the wake actually sounds like a waterfall and the view is spectacular. Got for it, you will not be sorry. We loved our cruise and this aft cabin even made it more special.

Sunrise,

I saw you across the casino, by the time I told jim where I was headed, you and dh were nowhere to been found. I never saw you again. We have an aft balcony for next May...looking forward to it. I really disliked our room this year.

We just got back from the Freedom and had a aft balcony. we've had several in the past and have always loved them, you can't beat the view. But, we were on the 8th deck below the back of the pizza restaurant and the chair scraping could be heard. Now we were in the cabin much in the evening but at three in the morning they started cleaning and it was bad. They did stop after we complained and some of our neighbors too. There is another little problem with this deck, they have a sprinkler system to wash the windows on the restaurant that comes on sometime in the night, just sounds like rain but it leaves the balcony flooded for any morning viewing or eating or whatever you do on your balcony. I would still book a aft but not on this deck on this ship. By the way, this was the first time there was a problem in all the years of our cruising.

I have searched and searched for this answer: do any aft cabins/wraps hold 4 people? I can't find any that do - but maybe I am just missing it on all the deck plans. Thanks!

no, the wrap definitely does not.

The best was an aft wrap, just for that space alone.

A regular aft cabin, although different simply for the views, was not what I expected. Very noisy when we were sailing, and a bit uncomforting being sort of exposed when you were at the rail. And having virtually no covering was a bit strange, and hot, as well.

But when we had that same room sitting in Bermuda for three days; we LOVED it.

Love the views!!!!!:) :)

the views are great!! Watching the islands shrink and the sun set as we pull away while you sit and have a pre-dinner drink before late seating.

Or if you are an early riser...watching the sun rise with your morning coffee..or just sitting out on a sea day watching the ships wake as you listen to radio margaritaville on your sirius radio...hehehe

plenty of picture moments....I love the extra room you get with the deeper balconies and the fact you are not stuck facing one direction.

Californiatripman:

We on are the Spirit on 12/6 too. It's possible that whether or not you get soot depends on what deck you are on. Same is true for the noise. If you are right under the pool area, I would expect more noise, chairs scraping, water from them hosing off the deck in the morning. We were on the Empress deck on Legend and will be on the Empress deck on Spirit also. Never saw a speck of soot on that deck on the Legend, so I expect it to be the same with Spirit. Also never heard any chairs scraping or got any water from above either but that's probably because there were only cabins on the floor immediately above ours. My suggestion for those considering aft balconies would be to look at the deck plans and see what is directly above and below you.

I had aft balcony on the Spirit, deck 6, room 6264. Balcony is considered extended balcony but it is less room than a side balcony cuz the railing is slanted inward so you lose some depth to it. Still plenty of room - ours wasn't a wrap which would be best but they are 9A's and higher priced. It was very noisy out there like standing next to a waterfall so it was pretty loud trying to talk on a cell phone was difficult etc but we could hold regular conversations with each other fine. Once inside the cabin with the door shut, it was totally quiet.

There was more movement back there from midship but nothing bad. We also had the black soot on the chairs and DH didn't realize it & I forgot to warn him so he got some black spots on his beige dress shorts and it was difficult to get washed out once I got home. Just be careful and use a towel when you sit.

There is less privacy with the aft balcony just because you can see about 1 to 2 feet of the decks below you. All the people above us would wave to you if you were leaning against the rail and you could see people against the rail next to you too. You can't see anything behind that 2 foot mark so if you plan to do any hanky panky, stay away from the rail and you will be fine.

The view was really great. We saw an awesome sunset when we sailed away from San Diego heading south. We also saw several pods of baby dolphins swimming in the wake & beside the wake on our last sea day which was really cool to see.

Definately should do it at least once and see if it is for you. I personally don't care where I am at, even inside cabins are fine, as long as I'm on a ship:)

I have an aft on the Miracle 2-17-08 on deck 4. Did you experience any soot? How hot was it? I cant wait to try my cabin, but, I have a loooooong wait!

I am not afraid of the rocking and look forward to the sound!

My first balcony ever was a 9A and now I'm spoiled. We're taking some friends on our next cruise so a 9A wasn't in the budget. We did decide to do a balcony though and I couldn't bare to just book "regular" balconies so we did the aft. I LOVE the view and don't mind the lack of privacy. I love the sun and I think the side ones are super windy. This is just my opinion. But, try it out and see what you think. It's a balcony... it's fun!

My only complaint is that the conquest/destiny class don't have the double doors like the spirit class. I think those are so pretty!

I had an aft corner balcony cabin (Category 9a) on the Valor last year. It was my 10th cruise and I got sea sick for the first time on the second night out. It was unusually rough seas, about 12-14 foot swells. Luckily the free sea sick medicine from the purser’s desk took care of it. I was fine the rest of the cruise. I won’t get a category 9a again. It was not worth the extra price, but I would get an aft balcony category 8 cabin.

I had a corner aft Jr. Suite on Enchantment (just lucked into it before I knew how awesome they were) for last December's carribean cruise. Oh my, it was lovely!

I didn't notice any more noise, and above me was other cabins, but the ship slopes back and away as it goes higher, so it was like I had nobody above me. The view was really wonderful, and I enjoyed watching the ports as they grew smaller. The sunset in particular leaving Cozumel was awesome.

The balcony was very big--I had enough space for a chaise lounges and two chairs with a table, without feeling at all crowded. My view wrapped around the left side as well, so I enjoyed watching the port traffic passing us by before sail away.

Given a choice between aft cabin or any other, I'd pick aft in a heartbeat. Enjoy!!

I love the rocking in this section, actually any section of a ship, sleep like a baby. I did see a little tiny bit of soot but had more than that blow on me when I was out on the deck upstairs.
