catcruisers Posted July 24, 2008 #26 Share Posted July 24, 2008 If you go to the porttime website that was listed earlier, you can do a calendar search by port, and it will tell you which ships visit each month for that port. http://www.porttime.com/

Schplinky Posted July 24, 2008 #28 Share Posted July 24, 2008 I really like the podcasts at crowncast dot org because they offer a lot of chatter about what's going on onboard the ships. Listening to the hosts is like listening in on old friends talk about their latest trips.

Bobbigrl27 Posted July 25, 2008 #30 Share Posted July 25, 2008 I like www.cruisestateroom.com to check out ships and cabins. Has anyone paid to access this site? I'm just curious if it's worth the $11.99 membership fee.

ebandive Posted July 25, 2008 #36 Share Posted July 25, 2008 Great thread! I like to look at ports from the air to get a better feel for the layout of the island or city. Go to www.weather.com click on maps: interactive: satellite. In my experience it is clearer than on google earth. :D You can zoom WAY in! And when you see the turquoise waters of the bahamas you can almost picture yourself there!

alphakitty Posted July 26, 2008 #40 Share Posted July 26, 2008 I like http://www.wunderground.com for weather averages...everything from sunshine to temps, wave height, etc. The "Trip Planner" tab gives you great weather info. This one will find Themed Cruises for those interested: http://themecruisefinder.com/ also might be good to find cruises to avoid. LOL I also use Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com for hotel recommendations. And this one for port information: http://www.caribbeanportreviews.com/ along with http://www.Frommers.com Frommer's has some good walking tours

bruce-r Posted July 26, 2008 #42 Share Posted July 26, 2008 <snip> I also use Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com for hotel recommendations. </snip> I do too, but you really have to take some of the user reviews with a large grain of salt. Just like cruise reviews, some people seem to go out of their way to find the negative parts of a trip to write about in their report.
pepsicruiser Posted July 26, 2008 #43 Share Posted July 26, 2008 Has anyone paid to access this site? I'm just curious if it's worth the $11.99 membership fee. I joined years ago and it was cheaper but do find myself going back to it for every cruise. There are probably other sites now that do the same for free. The one thing nice is they show actual pix of almost all rooms on all ships. But again now with cc you can ask for a certain pix of a certain room and most likely you will get it quickly. So like i said I got it years ago and maybe wouldn't do it now.

alphakitty Posted July 27, 2008 #45 Share Posted July 27, 2008 One I forgot to mention is http://www.hotelsbythepier.com/ A handy guide to hotels close to the cruise piers. Bruce, you are right about that grain of salt. I remember one review where the poster wrote about Formica counter tops and plastic cups as huge negatives for her hotel room (oh, the horrors! )....I had to LOL on that. ;)

I see my SD hotel will be just 108' walking to the pier!!! The only way I could get closer would be to bring a pillow and blanket and sleep on the pier. :D ***
