Hello everyone ! I stopped for a little lunch today while in Saint John, and they have Free Wi-Fi at the Festival Hall (close by)

I was able to see a lot today. I walked around a bit, through many of the Markets, and shopping area’s. I then got a private cab tour to a couple of sights, that I wanted to see. . .

I went up to the Reversing Falls, which was very cool. There were a lot of tours that take you to the Falls. Mostly were Jet Boat tours, and Harbour/Falls tours (Sold out on the ship)

The Tide was still low when I arrived (11AM), and the next High Tide comes at around 4PM.

The current of the St John River is overtaken by the massive tide increase (30ft?) It is a current like rapids, that must be seen to believe.

I took a few photos, but they don’t do it justice.

I am amazed at all of the Pedway’s, (Skywalks) that you can use to get to many parts of the city. It really makes sense since the winters her can be pretty brutal.

You can get around the city without having to walk outside !

I also checked out the Canada Games Aquatic Center, which was very cool. The public is free to use the facilities on most days($7 adults, $3. Kids). They have a fitness center, and Spa as well.

I went up to Fort Howe, which is up near the Fort Howe Hotel and Convention Center, to take a few pics of the Victory.

I just left the New Brunswick City Market, which was very cool. There are tones of vendors there selling produce, gifts, seafood, and coffee. . . I loved it there.

I never went into the New Brunswick Museum. . . They said they didn’t allow backpacks(which I had), or camera’s. . What ? No picture taking. . . . Oh well. . .

I am currently at the Saint John Ale house at Market Square where I was able to get a much discussed Lobster Roll (Lump Lobster chucks on a sub roll). Almost every store has them. . . I can tell you that they were great !

I am getting ready to head back to the ship. . Only a 10min walk. There are some big tents over at the pier, that have many vendors for some last minute shopping. . .

It is cheaper to upload all my pics to my server from here(free), than on Victory. . . So here are a few pics from today. . .

I will try to get back on later tonight. . .

You can see many more pics by clicking on my Photo Album, below. . .

Thanks for tuning in. . .

Radio,

Great market shots. What's the story with currency? Will they take US dollars with some sort of conversion factor for Canadian money? Or do you have to make purchases using Canadian dollars? I hear that the best way though is to use a credit card since you can get more favorable exchange rates that way, but some places don't take credit cards.

i took the boat ride of the reversing falls. wow is all i can say!

one should take pair extra close!!! great fun. raido make srue u go to the voom show.. its wonderful!

I would guess it's only the jet boat ride where you get really wet, not the shuttle, right? I guess a rain poncho wouldn't quite cut it, huh?

Great Job reporting as well as the pix. We're going on the 23rd. Curious as to the water temp in the pools as they replace the water each nite with seawater.

Radio: Great pics. Yesterday on board, while you were at sea, were many people using the pools ? If not, was it because of the weather or the water temp ?

We sailed on the same cruise a month ago and had the best time. These pictures bring back great memories and it's awesome to see Saint John's without the fog!

Is Mikey one of the social host on the cruise? He was on ours and we thought he was funny.

Enjoy the rest of the cruise.

Airbender, Canadian port cities are set up to take either Canadian or US currency. As Canadians, we always prefer to pay in our own currency when we cruise to Canada, but we are usually first quoted a price in US dollars when we shop ashore because it's assumed that most passengers are American. The vendors always seem surprised to find out that we're Canadian!

Radio, thanks so much for the continuing info and those wonderful photos:)

Some Victory reviews that I've read say that walking to the Reversing Falls is do-able, only a couple of miles away. Did you see a walkway that would lead there from the ship?

Hello everyone. . .We pulled away at 4:15PM. Our scheduled departure was at 4PM, but a couple of passengers got back to the ship late.

Cruise ship passengers can now get free Wi-Fi from the Market vendors in front of the ship. There were a few signs advertising it. (You should shop in town though. . . The prices are much better !

We should be able to pick up the Pilot tomorrow at about 8:30AM, and our arrival time should be at 9AM.

Halifax has a nice webcam that you can view. It is at http://webcam.chebucto.net/

I tried to view it when the Explorer of the Seas was there last week, but it was so cloudly. . .you could only see fog.

I am unsure what I will be doing tomorrow. I would like to see the Maritime Museum (It has many Titanic artifacts) maybe they will let me take a few photos. . .

I am sure will stumble across the Casino, though. . . Ha ha

In Halifax, you can get free Wi-Fi from several places. The Hilton next the Casino, and the Library offer it, and I heard that there are several locations right at Passenger Terminal where we will be docked.

The temperature went from about 74f at 3PM, to about 54f right now (7PM).

I am about to watch the Seaside Theatre (Bourne Ultimatum (sp?)), before the magic Show later tonight.

The water in the Bay of Fundy is very calm, we will be out of the Bay and in the Atlantic for a short time until we head north on the Eastern Side of Nova Scotia.

I will try to answer as many of the questions that I can when my Internet is a little cheaper (tomorrow). . .

Here are a few pics from our sail away today. . .

I just used American money, and I was given Canadian change. . .Ooops

I needed to use the ATM, but was unable to in the Hotels. . . I had to go the Bank, and use the one there. They said it was something about private ATM's would not access US banks.

All of the currency is coins up to a 5 Dollar bill (CAN)

I used my credit card when possible. . .

Thanks for the nice comments. . .

Question for you....

You visited the City Market Place...right? I was wondering if you had bought anything and if you brought it on the ship. It is one thing that is bugging me because I want to get local foods and bring them back if I can have you heard or seen anyone bring food back on the ship?

Thanks in Advance!

They told us during the Port talk, that security would not let you bring food item back on the ship (produce, seafood, meat products)

Radio,

I'm really enjoying your live reports and pictures. I was just on the Victory 4 day to St. John at the beginning of July. I always forget I have a camera when I'm on vacation so I never take as many pictures as I should, so I'm really enjoying yours.

I liked St John's, but we ended up spending an extra 2 hours in port because we got in late. Kind of pointless since most everything besides drinking and eating closes up at 5 pm local time on Saturdays. Anyone going to St. John, I highly recommend Churchill's Pub on Grannan Street for lunch.

If you have a chance and think about it. Pop into the Irish Sea Piano Bar one night and tell Peter that Laura from Hoboken says "Hi!" I'm trying to freak him out by having at least one person a week mention me or cruisecritic to him! LOL! But he's also a really good musician. He's got an interesting voice kind of Crash Test Dummies meet David Gray.

Enjoy the rest of your trip! I can't wait to see more pictures. If you don't mind I'll download your pictures from the ship and St. John and present them as my own! LOL! Just kidding!

Happy Cruising,

Laura

Radio (or anyone who has done the NYC cruise),

Do you know what time the ship docks in NYC on the return. I know they to be brought in by the pilot, but is it too early to wake up to watch? Or do they have to wait until a ballpark time to come into port?

THanks!

We've docked by 7-7:30 on our Victory sailings. I would get up around 5 to sail under the Verrazano Bridge.

Just love your day by day! We are doing the Victory 7 day in Sept. so this thread has been a wealth of info. Love the pictures! I would be interest in knowing about your private cab tour. Did you book it prior to leaving or make arrangements pier side? Any info on this or suggestions would be of great help. My husband and I are traveling with my 81 yr old Mom and cousin. They do not want to do a bus/or ship excursion in Saint John and would prefer a private cab. Also is walking to the reversing falls doable and how long from the ship. Believe or not my Mom walks a lot and is in good shape. Please enjoy the remainder of your cruise and hope you do well in the casino;)

We were just on the victory 7/17. Private cabs were available in Saint John right past the fence. I think they were $50 or $55/hour (american) and would take you wherever you wanted.

And Radio - great pics! Makes me feel like I'm back on board!
