Beardie Posted October 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2004 We booked a Cat C GTY on the Dawn as our agent pointed out the only upgrade would be to a balcony. We'd be happy with any outside, so the GTY didn't scare me. BUT.....I just got assigned to Cabin #6502!! This is one of only 4 cabins on Deck 6. I nearly died when I looked on the deck plan. It's right between the theatre and the casino! I've asked a few former passengers, and no one remembers seeing these cabins on Deck 6. Does anyone know these cabins? Are they separated from the main entrances to the theatre and casino? Do you think this will be a horror?? I'd rather fight this out now if need be than have it ruin our cruise. Any help or info would be appreciated!
johnslig Posted October 21, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Hi Beardie, I saw those cabins on the Dawn deckplan. I was praying we wouldnt get them, since it does look like they are right in the middle of everything + right below the 7th floor main area . My gut would tell me to try to change rooms. I was disappointed to get a 4th floor outside but now I am happy to be on a floor with just rooms. Let us know how you fare with changing, if you do. I'm not sure when you leave, but you may have trouble with a sold out cruise ( ie: Thanksgiving)
KarlaC Posted October 21, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 21, 2004 I just took a look at the deck plans and if I were you I would try to make the best out of this situation. 1. You are very close to the theatre and should be able to arrive early enought to get a great seat. 2. You are close to everything so not too much walking. When I was on the Dawn in May, I don't remember seeing entrances for these cabins. Just remember to keep your head up. The shows in the Theatre don't run too late so it will be pretty quite around there after 11:30 or so. From what I remember of being in casino, it wasn't very loud. Good luck and remember you are on a cruise. Relax and enjoy. Besides do you really plan on doing a lot of sleeping in your room?!?! That's for the week vacation you need to take when you get back.:p
carol louise Posted October 21, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 21, 2004 We were on the Dawn last spring and noticed those cabins when we were exploring. If I remember correctly, there was a doorway, or at least an entryway, into a smaller passageway running parallel to the length of the ship allowing access to those cabins plus a staff office or two. So there may be a degree of buffer between you and the main passageway that runs between the theater and casino. Of course, if possible, you may wish to see whether you can reserve a specific cabin elsewhere instead, but I think you'll be fine in the cabin assigned. The Dawn is a beautiful ship -- enjoy your cruise. Carol Louise
seahorse Posted October 21, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 21, 2004 In my professional opinion......CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE your cabin if you can. You have the promanade deck above you, could be noise in the morning with people running or walking. The shows are very noisey and you may have people going past your cabin late at night after the shows. I would even pay extra for an upgrade if you could get one. This is only my opinion. It could be a great location for you. In any case, you will love this cruise. I have sailed on the Dawn 2x last year and would go again in a heartbeat:D
Beardie Posted October 21, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Thanks for the help.....I'm going to call my agent and see what he can do. It's hard to believe that these cabins are not insulated somehow. I really wish I could speak to someone who had one, but that's a slim chance since there are only 4 there! I feel it could be great or terrible!
Starspangle1 Posted October 21, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 21, 2004 I remember those rooms and they are buffered by a hall and a passage way. When people came out of the show they are not near those rooms at all. The casino was not noisy, as a matter of fact I was suprised that once we walked out from the casino we couldn't even hear those slot machines that make those loud noises. I don't think you would have a problem with noise or people from the show or the casino but it's up to you.
shoreguy Posted October 21, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 21, 2004 There is some risk with those cabins but for me I could not ask for a better location. I spent 80% of my time at night within a few steps of the room. Impressions is my first choice for a main dinning room with Gatsbys a great spot for a before dinner cocktail. Turn left and you can be at a show. The Bistro is my first choice for alternate dinning. Dazzales is just a single flight up. The only down side is the Casino is to easy to get to and that could be expensive  If the chance of a little noise when shows break up is a concern move. Having the promenade above has some risk but makes it easy to get outside and enjoy a sunrise or sunset. If being in the middle of the best of the Dawn is more appealing then the risk save the upgrade $ for the casino.
Tomct Posted October 21, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Beardie: I reposted some thoughts on the Roll Call, as I had written one yesterday, as soon as I saw your question. Now, in response to the posts here that mention the casino is not that loud, my memory may agree with them, though my mind thinks of the noise of the slot machines at the Mohegan Sun here in Connecticut, and they are LOUD. What I do recall onour first of two Dawn cruises, is hearing people shouting as you walk by. The Wheel of Fortune slot machine seems to be one of the most popular, and is located near the entrance. One night as we were milling about prior to a show, we heard some loud screaming, so I went in and saw that a women had just won $1,000, and was with some friends who added to the volume. Later that evening, I walked by as someone won $800, I think, and there was some screaming going on then, too. I don't spend too much time in the casino, but do wander through from time to time, and it seems someone is always playing one of the two machines. Joanne G. Posted October 21, 2004 #10 Share Posted October 21, 2004 We were curious about these cabins and made a point to check them out when we were on the Dawn. We went down that hallway while a show was in progress. We could hear the music from the theater, but it was muffled enough that we figured it probably wouldn't be noticeable from inside the cabin. We didn't hear casino noises at all. While it seems odd to me that these would be in the highest category of outside cabin, I don't think being in one would ruin your cruise. Wherever you end up, have a great time on the Dawn.
Beardie Posted October 22, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted October 22, 2004 Thanks to all of you for the input....I contacted my agent who is contacting NCL. I'll get an answer next week. I'm not going to let it get me too crazy, as I can't imagine it being that bad. If it is, we'll "discuss" it on board!
shoreguy Posted October 22, 2004 #12 Share Posted October 22, 2004 Live and learn - If you book a GTY make sure the you will be happy with the catagory. Most upgrades are inside to inside or outside to outside. Not often you will get outside to balcony. That would be like balcony to Mini. Let us all know how they are. I think the location is interesting.
CruisinMatt Posted October 23, 2004 #13 Share Posted October 23, 2004 Is it just me or would that be a neat little group of rooms for a small travel party to accomodate? :) Almost like your own little "ship". :)
Beardie Posted October 23, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted October 23, 2004 Matt.... Maybe if they gave me the other 3 rooms, I'd take them up on it. Maybe we'll have our own private stewart etc! But then again, if nobody knows we're there, we'll probably never get service. They'll probably think we're stow-aways! Could be a very interesting cruise! peanutJMV Posted October 27, 2004 #15 Share Posted October 27, 2004 Hi Beardie I was on the Dawn last year Cat C-8th floor, above the Stardust theater, We heard the noise from the theater until the shows were over. Muffled but annoying. The overall cruise was wonderful. We cruised the Dawn again this Past Sept and didnt want to take the chance with a GTY and booked a balcony. Best thing we ever did, it was fantastic and would do it again in a minute. My suggestion to you: Upgrade to a balcony, rates are great this time of year and your TX could most likely get you a great price for the upgrade. Between the casino and the theater, cant help but be noisy, you hear the casino walking down the hall. Have a great time...Its a beautiful ship. Gypsea Posted October 28, 2004 #16 Share Posted October 28, 2004 Greetings! Though I did not sail in these cabins I, too have sailed the Dawn twice recently. I doubt these cabins are bad at all. I was on deck 8 which is also a fabulous location, very central. I think you will be happy here. The casino is well away from the cabins and should not be a bother from a noise stand point. Don't look for trouble. They would not have bothered with these few cabins on deck 6 if they thought it was an issue. Plus, if this was a problem don't you think we would have a whole thread about it by now. You know we would. As an agent for a large travel firm I have never heard of any complaints about deck 6 cabins. Have fun. BonVoyage!!
Beardie Posted October 28, 2004 Author #17 Share Posted October 28, 2004 Thanks for the words of encouragement......if my agent can't help out with this, we'll keep our positive attitude. I do agree that they would have had many complaints if these cabins were that bad...........Thanks again!

LOL, I know, but it's hard to find references to that cabin, and even at the different sites that describe cabins, the description varies. Don Haynes Posted January 25, 2007 #23 Share Posted January 25, 2007 Why do people who book guarantee with a very good chance of significant upgrades and savings wish to pick cabins when they don't get a favorable cabin? If you don't want an unfavorable cabin don't book guarantee. Its that simple.

I'm simply hoping to find someone who can tell me something about this stateroom:)! PS: I'm also not assuming that this cabin is unfavorable!
