Cruising89143 Posted October 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2008 Well let's see, Arthur Frommer is about 100 years old so I doubt very seriously that RCI had him in mind when they developed Oasis. What's even worse is that a travel professional is blasting something that he has not even tried. I guess the word "crotchety" comes to mind here. I bet HAL is his choice of cruise line!!!!! ;)
Darkwolfe Posted October 7, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 7, 2008 The old phrase "Don't knock what you haven't tried" (Not true for eveything of course!) seems to come into play here. I like Frommer's guides, but this seems to be rather arrogant on his part. Pity.
dfishner Posted October 7, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2008 Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, I take what he saids with a grain of salt.
crusinmama06 Posted October 7, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2008 Oh geesh. So we've all gone mad. Ok, so maybe he's right about that. :p I am happy about one thing, he said he will "never set foot on Oasis". Good thing too cause I don't like to sail with grumpy people. ;)
dougp26364 Posted October 7, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2008 I quit reading, listening and buying Frommers books long ago. I realized that Frommers idea of travel and mine didn't match up well. I will buy other travel books/magazines from time to time but leave Frommers out of my plans. So I guess it isn't any wonder that he's dissing a ship that has yet to sail, one he hasn't personally seen, hasn't set foot on and, from the sound of it might not ever take a second glance at. Yep, he's got the expert opinion cornered on this one.

mpbmark Posted October 7, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 7, 2008 I just read the 2 comments. These people haven't a clue.  As stated above, hopefully we will never sail with them.
Grandeur Posted October 7, 2008 #9 Share Posted October 7, 2008 http://www.frommers.com/blog/?plckController=Blog&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&plckPostId=Blog%3a3ec3ac40-db8a-4d10-a884-acf9ccad0879Post%3af8261e6a-7014-45aa-84a3-4ce35a2e26e2 Ahhhhhhhhhh, but for ME, the ship IS the destination!! Islands? What islands? Who cares I say!!!! Call me "MAD"   but I'm more than willing to pay whatever it takes to be on the inaugural and not think twice. Guess I won't be working with Frommers any time soon :D Couldn't help but leave my two cents under their comments section.
GottoCruise Posted October 8, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 8, 2008 Thanks for the 'link' ---kind of 'grumpy isn't he?? I was 'inspired' by Grandeur's comment and added my own. Travel??? this ship isn't for 'travel' - it's a 'Floating Resort' with the choice of visiting a Caribbean Island for a few hours. We'll probably not get off and I suspect many, like us, will not get off either!

CLQ Posted October 8, 2008 #12 Share Posted October 8, 2008 From his comments, I can suppose that it wasn't Arthur Frommer I was racing to book my CP Balcony cabin a few weeks ago. And, we won't be standing in line behind Arthur waiting for a turn on the Zipline. Nor will I have to jockey with him for room in an elevator. Yeah, I'm okay with that.
mpbmark Posted October 8, 2008 #13 Share Posted October 8, 2008 Arthur must be older than I am. Forget about him. I booked a B2B so I would have sufficient time to explore the ship. I may not get off the ship, which would be a first.
