ss475 Posted February 9, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2009 We have booked a 14 day cruise onboard the Pacific Princess to Alaska, on September 3rd. We are seasoned cruisers, however always Grand and Crown size ships. Since the Pacific Princess is much smaller, only 670 passengers, we want to know if anyone hit bad weather onboard and how this smaller ship handled it. Also the staterooms seem smaller, as well as public areas, did it feel more confining? How was the food and entertainment? paul929207 Posted February 9, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2009 We did the same cruise last summer on the Tahitian Princess, sister of the Pacific. We had no problem with rough seas.

Diane and Carl Pushing Elite on Princess Copper on Holland America We cruised on the Tahitian (sister-ship to the Pacific) through the center of the Pacific Ocean from French Polynesia to Hawaii. There were a couple of rough sea days, but the ship handled it fine. We've had rougher rides on much bigger ships in the Atlantic. We never felt confined. Our balcony cabin had a sofa, and ample space. The Grand-class ships have a walk-in closet next to the bathroom. On the Tahitian, we had 2 closets with doors, and the space was sufficient for 12 days-worth of clothes. There was also sufficient drawer space. Food was just as it was on other Princess ships, but the sole dining room had 2 fixed dining times and no anytime dining. There was also a buffet, as well as pizza and a burger grill. The theater was small and relatively intimate. We really enjoyed being close to the stage. It seemed as though seating was on the same level throughout the theater, so sight-lines were slightly blocked several rows back from the stage. There were elevated chairs at the back in the bar area. Hope this helps. DavidnSteph
California Native Posted February 10, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2009 Yes, please check the other thread and this thread has quite abit of info, that I won't repeat here...http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=924596 but to answer your question on rough seas we were 2 days out from Hawaii with very rough seas... The buffet area was shaking and the medical center on deck 4 was really bad. I was injured on that very rough day and had to be super glued back together because it was unsafe to do stitches... while back in my cabin on deck 7 either 7107 or 7017 it wasn't rough at all. the cabin number is in our photo album on the other thread. Captain Lupo asked us to avoid the outside decks for 1 day, but there was plenty to do inside SFO is my homeport. You will have rough seas until you reach Washington. However I do feel that the ship is built to handle it quite well
Rare ceilidh1 Posted February 10, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2009 We did the 14 day on the Tahitian last summer. The only day we had rough seas was crossing from Kodiak back to Juneau, which is open water. Our cabin was on deck 6 aft at the very back and we felt a LOT of movement that day! We even had waves splashing over our balcony and pretty much everyone we spoke with got seasick. When we were able to venture to the buffet, we found all of the plates, etc secured with cling wrap as they had all come crashing to the floor earlier in the evening. Even the staff were looking a little green...Once we got out of the open water, it was fine and there was very little movement for any of the other times.
