Who's the most famous person you ever met (or saw) on a Carnival cruise?

Richard Simmons, it was a "cruise to lose" He drank a lot.

 

One of my first cruises was out of NOLA, and my next door neighbor onboard was Richard Simmons.

 

Boy howdy...the stories I could tell just from what I overheard while sitting on my balcony...

 

But probably the funniest was going to the door with a tray full of empty chocolate milk glasses and cookie crumbs, bending over to slide the tray outside, and catching a glimpse of someone standing to my right. I didn't stand, just glanced over to find Richard Simmons smiling down at my size 12 self with my tray full of empty goodies. :o

 

My daughter (5 yrs) stuck her head out, I said "say hello to Richard Simmons" (wearing those tiny shorts and sparkly tank top..him, not me), to which she replied, "who's Richard Simmons?".

 

He was not amused....but I was! :D

In 2001, my sister and I went on our first cruise to Key West and Cozumel. While in Key West, we went on a catamaran and snorkeling excursion. While sunbathing and drinking, we sat next to a man, his brother, his wife and 2 kids. We talked to them for quite awhile and took several pictures. All of them were very nice and down to earth.

 

Next day someone commented on how cool was it that Rusty Wallace and his brother Kenny were on our excursion. Now I am not a Nascar fan but my sister is. We both asked which one was Rusty. They go you know the man you talked to for hours? Yes! That's him. :eek: So I have pics of Rusty in his bathing suit. lol

 

Wish I could have this happen while cruising with my son. he's 9 & amazes me what he knows about Nascar. Where he gets it from I'll never know?!?! We were on The Valor in early September. Stevie Wonder was flown in. They had announced a surprise guest would be there the next night. We never thought anything about it till everyone was talking about who they had seen the night before. I guess next time I hear about a surprise guest I will be sure to go.

On my first cruise, little did we know it was a basketball theme cruise. This was back in '93. There were a lot of old school basketball players that I never heard of but my brother and dad knew who they were. Among them was Rashad and Phylicia Rashad. She was extremely nice but he was a real a-hole. He was very nasty and hurt my brother's feelings (we were kids at the time). I haven't liked him since.

I was just wondering, given the number of experienced cruisers here, who was the most famous person you ever met -- or saw -- on a Carnival cruise?

 

On a cruise, I don't look for celebrities. We are on the ship as an escape from reality of our daily lives and so are they. So based upon that, everyone is a celeb.

I am a Marine veteran of Desert Storm...I had breakfast one morning with a World War 2 Marine who was Jewish and a POW in Germany.

 

I will never forget that breakfast.

 

That is what I love about cruising. Never met a celebrity and have no real interest in doing so, but have met the most interesting people from all walks of life.

We were never able to confirm it, but we believe we sat next to Christopher Titus in the casino last year on the Liberty, the year before on the Glory, we met the guy who does the interiors on the CMT show "Trick My Truck"...he's a hoot...I can't recall his name, but he was just a fun person to be around.

 

Would have LOVED to have met the WW2 Vet, actually any US Vet, they are all my heros, they do and have done a job I could not. Their families also deserve recognition, how many of us will kiss our spouses good-bye Monday morning and know they will return home Monday night with traffic being the most horrific thing they face all day?

 

Just to side-step a little, thank you to all the servicemen and women and your families, we have not forgotten you.:)

BJ Penn was on Conquest in January.

 

Most people didn't even know it was him but I did see a few take pictures with him and sign items. A funny moment was when he was at the photo area and some girl asked him to show his sign and sail card which was hanging on his neck off a lanyard. The look on her face when she flipped it over was priceless. Hearing him talk to her and take a few pictures and how nice he was makes me believe that all of the trash talk that he does is just to promote the fight and get more pay per view buys.

I hope I never have to cruise with anyone from Hee Haw!:D

 

Not on the cruise but waiting for the flight home my friend and I talked to Lil Flip at the airport. He was sitting next to us and kept talking to us often. We wondered why people were coming up to him asking for autographs but didn't want to ask. We heard people calling him Flip but that meant nothing to us. When I got home, I did some searching on the Net and found out he was an upcoming hip hop singer.

Years ago we were on a Princess cruise and passed a gentleman in the hall, I nudge my DH and say isn't that Robert Klein the comedian. Sure enough he's performing on the ship the next evening and is staying in the room across from us. My Dh is a big fan so he slids the ship paper under the door and asked for a autograph, the paper was slid back under our door in the morning. Saw him in town next day and thanked him, it was cool.

I've had the honor to sail with World War II vets on two different sailings I sailed with Nick on the Miracle in 2006 and Ron on the Maasdam in 2008.

Nick was a paratrooper that was involved with D-day. His telling of what occurred during that time,hearing about the enagements he was in and about the loss of childhood and army friends, leaping out of an aircraft to enaged in battle was two nights at dinner that I would never forget.

Ron was a pilot with the Canadian Royal Air Force. He was involved with the Battle of Britian and several tours over Germany. He was assigned to the Pacific tour and was captured by the Japanese. He surived a death march and camp. Ron proudly wore his numerous medals formal nights and I took pictures and wrote what each one was about.

Both of these remarkable men were sailing alone and get about the ship and on shore quite well. Sadly, there are so few of them still around.

I was honored to sit with each of these men during dinner and hearing history on a personal level instead of a book. One thing that both said still stuck with me. Both stated that they watch men in the prime die and wonder how they surived. Ron recall returning back to where he was in camp and noticing how the gravestone ages of the dead were in their late teens and early 20's.

I consider both Ron and Nick as some of the most famous people that I ever sat with. While they weren't on tv or know by millions, these were stars to me.

I hope that if anyone have the honor to sail with a World War II vet, savor the history that they past to you.

On our cruise last month, we met one of the models on QVC. Hubby thinks I always recognize someone and he's always sure that I'm wrong, so he walked up to her and asked her! I was mortified, but she was was lovely and gracious about it and I think maybe even a little flattered. We also heard the guy from Flip this House was onboard, but I wouldn't have known him if I saw him...oh well!

last year..Gerry Cahill, Pres CEO, CCL, and Roger blum, pres/producer of the shows on board. Roger and I have known each other about 35 yrs..since he was a Jr Purser, during the summer, for sitmar. I was invited to join them for cocktails. How nice was that ?.
