Bummer. Can't even enjoy a good Mexican dinner. Having traveled and worked in Mexico, I think they don't want you to compare a GOOD Mexican restaurant to the ship dining room.

Why? Eat before you get back on board......that's what we do.

2 days to Cabo is awesome. 5 days for how cheap it is I'm there. I booked 2 of these, like my daughter says if the weather's bad you'll probably go to Ensenada anyway. I orignally had a 3 day booked on 9/25/09 for $300 per person now I have a 5 day for $250 per person 9/26/09 How do I not go for it! It works out to about 1- 5 day cruise per month give or take a month. The deals are awesome, 2-20-10 was only $180 a person Karon:)

To support the argument that the ship leaves because of the use of tenders, rather than to be able to generate more on-board revenue, I would cite an experience I had a few years back on a New England/Canada cruise. We were supposed to make a tender call at Oak Bluff, Martha's Vineyard, but due to high winds, we had to skip it. Instead, we went on to our next scheduled stop, Newport, also a tender port. We did leave the harbor early evening, and go a short ways out to sea, and return again the next morning for our regularly scheduled stop.

If I were travelling to Cabo, I'd prefer not to overnight because it's a tender port and anchoring could be problematic: unexpected weather or sea conditions that might endanger the ship and passengers.

While I'm should a cruiseline would have up-to-date meterological info, it's less risky to sail away and return for the second day.

I love Cabo, and look forward to booking on this itinerary. I wish it would stay overnight, but understand the reasons as to why it doesn't. As others have said, we'll make the best of what we are provided. :D

I haven't read through all the posts, but for those who think the ship is leaving to open up the casino and make money is not in the know, no offense of course.

The reason the ship leaves and then comes back the next day is because Mexico does not allow an overnight stay because then you would be required to go through customs and immigrations in Mexico. Most people get away with going to Mexico without a passport, or from other countries without a visa. That is because the cruise passengers are considered "in transit" since they are not staying overnight. So if the ship were to stay overnight, guests would need more documentation. The Bahamas are a lot less strict with this hence why they allow the ships to stay almost 24 hours. But Mexico is much stricter.

So, now you know.

Nice to have someone from Mexico's state department explain it to us the uninformed. Having only been to Mexico 20 or so times I am not that familiar with how strict their rules are.

I just called a Carnival Rep and he went and asked..he said we can stay off if we want, just be aware that we cant get back on until 7a.m. the next morning. I asked him if we need any special paper work and he said no, just make sure the ship is aware we are not getting ont that evening.

That would be greaat if someone else can confirm with carnival.

What if the weather is too rough the next day and they can't tender in:confused:

Better bring your passport and extra money;)

This is pretty silly. Cabo is a wonderful nightlife place - why bother if you can't enjoy that part of it? And the weather excuse is just that. The weather can change during the day in any tender port - in fact I've experienced it - and the ship manages to get all guests back aboard. Some passengers had a rough trip, true, but they get you back! This is just a way to keep guests spending onboard at night.

Unless you can stay overnight, I'd vote for another port of call.

How horrible.........why in the world would the cruise lines be out to make a buck or two:rolleyes:

Is Carnival afraid of losing some money to the shore establishments by NOT staying overnite?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

I would think it would be more like making money;) After all that is what businesses strive to do......

I see there is a high precentage who voted to go someplace else for variety. I am curious if anyone who voted for that would post where else it could possibly go and why.......

I have said all along they should have a cruise to Cabo and La Paz......anyone else:confused:

Cabo/La Paz would be a fantastic itinerary... just visited La Paz for the first time & fell in love with the place!

Just got back from a 14 night cruise through the canal with Cabo as my last stop. I never have enough time there. Once again, I was running around the Marina to make the very last tender.

I had written off the Elation when they switched to Catalina, but now am trying to organize all my friends for the two day Cabo stop.

Yes, I wish it was overnight, and I may just not run that fast this time to make it back the first night.

This is a silly question, but does anyone know if you get in any sort of trouble for not returning to the ship? It would be really great to get a room in town for the night and enjoy the nightlife.

Well the carnial rep said we could stay overnight, but think i will wait and book until they do a couple of these cruises and see what the feedback is.

Yeah I will be curious if people try to do this starting with the July 11 cruise. I think you will get a couple of people who are brave enough to stay overnight and hopefully they come back and post here and let us know about their experience.
