DH's BIG question

ahracer,

Come on...the watering eyes, nose running, chest pounding experience that IS NHRA Drag Racing!

This has to be the most fun you can have without doing drugs.

I like hitting an NHRA event right about Saturday or Sunday morning right around 9AM when it's official to fire-up...I can usually catch about 8-10 Dragsters and Funny Cars light up if I'm quick on my feet and that's an experience few can claim.

My wife thinks I'm nuts...

Okay, I live less than 3 miles from Bristol Motor Speedway (the world's fastest half mile) and can hear the announcer from my front porch. How about one of you race fans comes here to watch the race and I let you stay in my house. In return, just send me on a cruise while you are here. Balcony cabin, of course. I don't think that's much to ask, do you??

Oh, and for you NHRA fans, same offer stands for the Drags held at Thunder Valley (you can REALLY hear those from here).

I'm thinking this is a great deal (the scary part is, given how outrageous the few hotels available in this area are during the races... someone's probably gonna take me up on this).

Wonder how hard it would be for Princess to turn Skywalkers into a sports bar in the mornings/afternoons for sporting events and stuff like that?

Should be pretty easy.....considering that they were able to install the MUTS contraption!!

It always amazes how these threads will spin-off in the "wrong" direction or rather one that was not originally intended by the poster...almost as if it has a life of it's own!...
Ain’t that the truth…and now it’s so far off course, it’s not even about cruising.
To the poster who mentioned "Cars expending great amounts of fossil fuel going around in circles" is entiled to their opinion but I suggest they stay away from an NHRA drag race where two top fuel cars on a single run will burn about 16-20 gallons of nitromethane in approximately 4.45 seconds at well over 330 MPH.
No worries – you won’t see me either place.

I’d be more than happy to help you with that. I published a Sun Princess review the last time I sailed her and I’ve attached the link below – this was posted before the boards converted, so some of it is a bit corrupted and I don’t get credit for the review, but it is mine. My propensity to sail Sun Princess is due to a crew member/friend who was on board, but I don’t get any friends/family discounts and wouldn’t have continued to go back to see him if I didn’t like the ship.

Favorite things to do – breakfast on the balcony, the aft pool, spa treatments. Late evenings at Shooting Stars disco. The production shows have always been excellent as far as I’m concerned. Favorite hangouts are the Wheelhouse and for pre-dinner drinks, the Atrium bar where you can hear the atrium pianist and people watch. I think one of the neatest things about this class of ship is that the casino is prominent from the second atrium, but tucked out of the way, so that if you don’t want to access it, you don’t have to. I like the size of Sun Princess and the fact it handles the crowds well. They used to do Sterling Steakhouse in the grill area overlooking the pool at night – unfortunately, it’s now moved into Horizon Court, but still offers great food and service. Sun Princess used to be a “training” ship, which meant some uneven service – that’s changed now.

I would never hesitate to sail Sun Princess.

cruise182,

Good sick humor...I like it!

bdjam,

We have sailed the Sea & the Ocean so the whole Sterling's steakhouse overlooking the pool (at only $8/pp!) brought back some memories...Shame they don't do that anymore!

I remember the Casino being towards the back on the Sea which was fine with us since we don't gamble and therefore, didn't need to be near it.I do remember having to pass through it since our room was in back though.

The Wheelhouse has always been our pre-dinner favorite on just about every Princess ship...just love that clubby feel it has.

Thanks for the link,I'll check it out.

Have you noticed any slipping in food quality on your cruises?

Any excursion advice on the East side?

Thanks again!

Cars racing around in circles may use massive amounts of fossil fuels, but I suspect one 10 day Caribbean cruise on the Dawn uses about the same amount of fuel as all the NASCAR drivers burn in a year as I'm sure Princess doesn't run on mushrooms. Matter of fact the Dawn has a fuel capacity of around 700,000 GALLONS of fuel according to the Dawn Princess Fact Sheet. I guess we all waste natural resources in the manner that suits us best.

Chris is right. I forgot about reading that the World Series, which was on FOX, was broadcast on the ship. That tells me that they can broadcast FOX and if they did the World Series, I will bet you an adult beverage that the race will be on the MUTS as we head to St Thomas. And if all else fails, I will bring my remote control from home and when no one is looking I personally will change the station :D .

Bill

Even though the World Series was on FOX in the US it was distributed to the Cruise Ships by ESPN Desportes using the MLB International feed. I watched the World Series in the Carnival Legend's Sports Bar. The ESPN VIVID logo was everywhere and the announcers were differerent. All the commercials were in Spanish. BTW in a previous post someone had a picture of the ALCS on MUTS. It had the same ESPN VIVID logo on it.

Mike, thanks for the clarification. I have a feeling the cruise line has a contract with ESPN/ABC to broadcast content on those networks and they might not be able to broadcast other networks due to these contractual obligations. When I saw Princess was broadcasting the World Series, I just assumed it was through FOX. This does make a difference concerning other network's signals being broadcast on the ship.

I wonder if I can withdraw my bet of an adult beverage that Princess will be broadcasting the race? :o

Bill
