copperpenny Posted May 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2004 I have a MAJOR problem...Yesterday I finalized a cruise for Hawaii for this Saturday and RCCL took my money knowing that I needed transfers to the ship from San Diego to Ensenada. Well the fax came thru and there was a confirmation for the cruise but not for the transfer. I called RCCL directly and she said that the bus was full, and told me to hold on, and she would call transportation. She came back and told me that there was no room. Needless to say I had a COW! I have read how dangerous it is to take private transfers across the border and actually there is not a company in San Diego that will do it. One company told me to take the taxi to the border get out walk across the border with all of our luggage and get a taxi on the other side! Yea right! I paid thousand for this trip and they were told I needed the transfers, if they couldn't get me there they should not offer the cabin, and taken my money. My TA said she would get her DSM involved. Any suggestions? Be Nice!

Catnip Posted May 5, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 5, 2004 I would see what your TA can do. I can hardly beleive that they only have one bus running. Looks like they need to add another bus. Good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that things will work out. copperpenny Posted May 5, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Hi Catnip! Believe me the TA got an earful yesterday. The ship is not even sold out so I have a hard time with them not taking care of a customer who has booked the Royal Suite five days before sailing. We have cruised a good bit and I have never worried about hiring a private driver before, but Ensenada is another story. I have read how dangerous the trip can be so I was VERY specific about purchasing the transfers from San Diego! When she told me the buses were full I called about twenty different transportation companies in San Diego and NO one will do it. (Not for any amount of money!) dougp26364 Posted May 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 5, 2004 I'm not sure just how dangerous this trip is. My mother-in-laws sister has a home in Ensenada and another in San Diego. Her husband essentially lived in Ensenada until he passed away a couple of years ago. His wife has made the trip back and forth several times and I've never heard her say one word about it being dangerous. My father-in-law has made the drive a few times himself and told us we should just rent a car when we're in Ensenada and drive down around La Buffadora to see Sylvia if she's in town when we're there. This still doesn't solve your problem but I'm not so sure that I'd be thinking it's a dangerous trip based on the travels of my in-laws. Maybe it's not so bad as you've heard? Catnip Posted May 5, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 5, 2004 I think that's terrible! I sure hope they can arrange for another bus, or something. You know, when folks are on a cruise from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, you can purchase transfers to the pier. But, in your documents, it always says something like "if you have not purchased transfers, you can purchase them at the airport". So, I cannot imagine that they are not allowing for some "no-shows", or other people that need to buy transers at the airport there. Well, I wish you luck and hope the Regional Sales person can help you. melissa6675 Posted May 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Copperpenny, I don't have anything constructive to offer, but I did want to say hi from Olde Atlanta Road and McGinnis Ferry in Forsyth County, and wish you bon voyage on your trip! I hope you get the transfer worked out. jkrislc Posted May 5, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 5, 2004 The trip is not dangerous, especially if you stick to the toll roads. There are lots of companies that take tourists across the border all of the time. I'd contact a shuttle, sedan, or limo service and request a price. They'll do it; however, the cost may be quite high. copperpenny Posted May 5, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted May 5, 2004 After an exhausting day on the phone my TA finally got the right people at RCCL involved. I just received a confirmation for both of us across my fax!! Yippie!! I must have called 30 different taxi, Limo, Sedan operation companies and found ONE that would take us. He said that because of insurance issues most all of the transportation services stopped crossing the border. I had him on standby and it was going to cost a good bit, but it would have been our only option. I did check into a flight but was not comfortable with that situation either. I even tried to get the Bajamar golf resort to come get us but they would not cross either. I honestly considered the Sedan to the border drag all of our luggage out and walk across the border and catch a taxi on the Mexican side. This is what one of the transport companies told me to do. Thanks for all of you well wishes and support. RCCL has redeemed themselves, but boy did they cause me to loose sleep! Hi Melissa! We are almost neighbors. I am on Cogburn Rd. Close to the intersection of Cogburn and Bethany. Thank you for the Southern Send Off! iluvcruzin Posted May 5, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Glad they worked this out for you. I don't blame you for wanting to take the bus. I didn't go the direction you are, I went reverse (enscenada - san diego). I definately wouldn't want to be in a car/taxi. jkrislc Posted May 6, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 6, 2004 I'm glad it worked out for you. Sadly, I find it odd that many of the limo/shuttle companies no longer offer transportation into Mexico. Many people from the area fly out of Tijuana for Mexico-based vacations (e.g., Cancun) and I'd assume that there is a good demand. Perhaps it was the distance involved. Mexcican insurance is relatively cheap. The companies may also not wanted to wait for the border crossing to get back, which can range anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on the time of day. Desertbelle Posted May 6, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 6, 2004 When I first read this I knew it would be worked out. On our cruise to Hawaii on the Legend in December we also left from Ensenada and there were dozens of buses making that trip...surely room for 2 more. I am sorry you had to have a day or two of freaking out (been there, done that ) I am happy it worked out well for you in the end. copperpenny Posted May 7, 2004 Author #19 Share Posted May 7, 2004 No I wish we got the Royal for $1000. That was a typo it was suppose to read thousands. I did receive a discount from the TA that amounted to 7% off the Royal Caribbean price. What a week this has been. Having booked sooo late I was unable to book any excursions online, and I really did not have the time to look for independants. Talk about winging it!! Thanks again for all the good wishes.
