Does HAL still offer Dam Dollars?

While on the Prinsendam for the Grand Med and Black Sea voyage, we heard rumors that dam dollars may go away. No word on what if anything would replace them. We also noted that the "cost" of items bought with dam dollars had gone up a bit as well.

Cheers,

It has been a few months, but we did receive Dam Dollars while on the Zuiderdam. We were traveling with a group...8 in all...and we all participated in different activities, pooling our Dam Dollars. We collected them for the 10 days, and were able to trade them in on the last evening. By the time we arrived at "the trade in spot" they were willing to deal...offered them about any number of dollars, and they took it. All four couples came home with something...tee shirts, caps, sweat shirts...

When we were on the Noordam in April they had "Dam Dollar" events listed on the daily program. They also awarded Dam Dollars as prizes for Trivia, although it was not marked that way on the program. The last night of the trip we stood in a long line to use the Dam Dollars, and when we got to the table they only had a few sweatshirts in Medium (40 dam dollars, I believe), some t-shirts and some mugs. (No hats, not even any luggage tags.)

Thought it was far better when they handed out prizes at the various events. If I remember correctly from our Westerdam trip in Feb, the winning team at trivia each day got 20 or 25 dam dollars. Well when you split those among as many as 6 members on the team, unless you won on multiple days you got nothing.

Granted many of us have all the HAL luggage tags and key chains we need, but the mugs were always nice and a few years back they even gave out halfway decent silver plated picture frames w/ the HAL logo. And there's something to be said for walking away from the event with your swag and not just some stupid play money.

Oh well... just another "used to be" thing ....

We just returned from a 14 day Alaska cruise on the Veendam. There were Dam dollars given during the Ft Lauderdale to San Diego part of the cruise. From San Diego onwards no Dam Dollars. Too bad, because they encourage people to mingle. For the winners of the various events we received prizes. Take care.

Got off the Westerdam a couple of weeks ago. The only dam dollars offered were for the more sporting events. Basketball, ping pong etc. The other events all got prize. Came home with stuff. Had a lot of fun playing for those cards, tags and h20 bottles. They even offered the picture frames and hats. Never saw a dam dollar offered.

My husband and I were on the Zuiderdam Jan/Feb 2009 and we received quite a few DAM dollars. These were given for Walking a mile in the morning, trivia games, name that tune, & other stuff. (We had enough for a coffee cup, towel, & 8 X 10 picture frame):D

We had them on the Eurodam in April but they had limited items. We were told we could save them. I have heard stories that some of the crew says you can't but on another ship, they say you can.

We know that the ones they wound up photocopying will "never fly" on another cruise so we will probably just throw them out even though they were legitimately earned and given to us.
