F5Loar Posted June 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2009 I'll ask here since it seems no one is answering over at the port chats. Going on FOS in few weeks and looking for a really great local (non-chain)resturant for lunch in St. Thomas and St. Martin(Dutch side). Any recomendations? F5Loar Posted June 29, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted June 29, 2009 Those are nice but I would rather hear from real people that don't get paid to say it's great. I would like to hear from just plain folks that are not critics that can say it's worth stopping by for a meal. And recent recomendations are best. Hate to go to a place that was wiped out by a hurricane 4 years ago or the health dept. shut down last year.
jeniferlyn Posted June 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2009 We ate at Chesterfields in St. Martin. We booked a tour with Joyce Prince and she dropped us off there for lunch. It was very good, we had a Mahi Mahi wrap. After lunch, we walked back to the ship. I don't know if it is a chain or local restaurant but it was good. We were there three weeks ago and the prices were very reasonable.
Greektreats Posted June 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2009 We loved Gladys's Cafe in St. Thomas and will be there again when we cruise FOS in August!
atanac Posted June 29, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2009 Isn't there an outdoor restaurant built in a giant tree in downtown St Thomas?
truffles Posted June 29, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2009 I'll second Gladys's Cafe for local flavor.
alphakitty Posted June 29, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2009 The lolo's in Grand Case, St. Martin are wonderful. BBQ food, rice, beans...where the locals go and it's very inexpensive, around $10 per person. Sit out on the porch, looking at the beautiful view. :)
suehal Posted June 29, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 29, 2009 I own timeshare in St. Martin and there's lot's of great places for lunch. Chesterfields is great and right next to the cruise ship terminal. Kangaroo Court is great for coffee and sandwiches. If you want a great breakfast or lunch, go to the harborview restaurant.(We have breakfast there everyday!) It's right on the boardwalk, you can watch people walk by, everything is fresh and reasonably priced. You can also have some of the local dishes there,( it is owned by a local.) katiel53 Posted June 29, 2009 #10 Share Posted June 29, 2009 Cafe Amici is in St Thomas. It's an Italian restaurant and has a separate bar. I have only had drinks there but the food sure looks and smells great. I think if you go out the side door of Riise, it is right there. I think next time we go there we are going to try it for lunch. Enjoy!
Rare Got2Cruise Posted June 29, 2009 #11 Share Posted June 29, 2009 If you want a restaurant right on the beach in St. Thomas try Iggy's. It is a beach bar/restaurant. It is good for lunch, lots a island flavored sandwiches. It is located on the Bolongo Bay restort property. You can use the beach there too. It might not be the BEST restaurant but it has a truly island feel if that is what you are looking for.
MrsFixitCT Posted June 29, 2009 #12 Share Posted June 29, 2009 We did a land based vacation in St Thomas in Nov 07. The Green House is right downtown in Charlotte Amalie and we had lunch there one day, and it was very good (but crowded-there were 4 ships in, and it was pouring outside) http://www.thegreenhouserestaurant.com/greenhousestt/index.html We also had a wonderful meal at Margarita Phil's in Frenchtown. There's also one on St John. If going over to St John, we also had lunch at a really good restaurant overlooking the harbor...it's name escapes me...it was upstairs, and a beautiful view. nanfromatlanta Posted June 29, 2009 #15 Share Posted June 29, 2009 When in St Thomas, we usually have lunch a CUZZINS. It is one block North of Main Street. You will find it on Back Street and the corner of Raddets Gade. It is usually very crowded with both locals and cruise passengers. We have never been disappointed with anything we have ordered. http://www.stthomasblog.com/?p=831 Gladys' Cafe is good, however we prefer Cuzzins. ;)

Usually eat there twice when there on a land vacation. Tried Wicked once, great food, cool drink there made from green tea, honey and mango rum!
