We can't bear smoke and find it extremely offensive. In considering an Oceana cruise it is important to know how protected we are from smoke. Where are people allowed to smoke and are cabins and balconies non smoking as they are now on Celebrity?

What is the smoking policy of Oceania Cruises?

 

For the safety and security of all guests and staff onboard, Designated Smoking Areas are available on Deck 9, the forward starboard corner of the Pool Deck, and Deck 10, in the aft, port corner of Horizons. These areas are comfortably furnished and conveniently located near food and beverage areas.

 

Smoking is expressly forbidden in all Staterooms and Suites, on verandas, or in any areas of the ship other than officially Designated Smoking Areas. Smoking in a stateroom or suite or on a veranda represents a serious fire and safety hazard to all guests and staff. Guests choosing to disregard this policy will be disembarked at the next port of call and may also be subject to additional fees that will be imposed to cover the costs associated with any damage to and the required cleaning of furnishings, verandas and surrounding deck and accommodation areas.

 

All areas other than those specified as Designated Smoking Areas will remain smoke-free. This includes all guest suites and staterooms, verandas, restaurants, public areas, the Casino and all other areas of the ship. Cigar and Pipe smoking is only permitted on the forward starboard corner of the Pool Deck.

If you would look here or on your Oceania info, you'd find NO SMOKING is permitted except in 1 area of the lounge & 1 area by pool.

Oceania's smoking policy is more restrictive than Celebrity. We recently eliminated HAL from our consideration because of their liberal smoking policy, and, on our upcoming first voyage on Celebrity, are concerned with the fact that they allow smoking on one half of the ship on deck. We have also heard about enforcement problems with balcony smoking on Celebrity.

 

Oceania takes their smoking restrictions very seriously, and I have heard reports that people have actually been kicked off the ship for violations.

Once you know where the two smoking areas are, you need never go through them. It is delightful never to have to worry about that smell.:D

With regards Celebrity and smoking. We had a problem with smelling both cigar and cigarette smoke from people smoking on balconies. One woman was leaning over her balcony smoking and I reported her. We complained that the rules were obviously not being properly enforced but are thilled that Oceana does take them very seriously.

I wish they would outlaw smoking altogether. I can't imagine they attract too many smokers with their restrictive policy, but we did smell smoke around the pool. Yes, it is a small area and quite confined, but being outdoors the breeze took the smell around the pool deck.

Also extremely sensitive to smoke and do not have a problem at all on Oceania. There are only 2 smoking locations, both are pretty easy to avoid. If anybody breaks the rules and smokes on their balcony, a warning notice appears in most if not all cabins reminding passengers of the smoking policy and that if they are found abusing it they may be put off at the next port.

I did notice on our recent Baltic cruise, the smoking area on the pool deck, was increasingly popular with cigar smokers, especially after dinner each evening.

Looks like it's time for Oceania to outlaw all smoking on the ship.

We will make sure NEVER to walk trough that area at night, nor during the day for that matter!

Friend's of ours are on the Crystal next week med cruise. They chose it over O because they are allowed to smoke in ther stateroom.

Well, since Crystal was brought up - I think Crystal, with lovely ships, has a problem with some of the attitudes of mid-management personnel who think they "are above it all", and with some of the very overly self-impressed passengers who think the world should revolve around them.

 

We tried two Crystal cruises, and don't care to try a third.
