Cruising with the Galaxy!

My husband and I will be sailing with Celebrity's Galaxy ship in August. Does anyone wish to share their expirience with me? I am very excited to learn as much as possible before going. I am the type of person who likes to know the surroundings before steping into the water. Thank you! :)

Without going into too much detail the Galaxy is one of my favourite ships. It is well laid out, and has a staff that is great. Not sure what other cruises or ships you've been on to compare it to. Some might think it's a little small but I am a fan of ships this size.

I, also am interested to learn everything about the Galaxy. I've been on the Century and the Constellation and am sailing on her westbound transatlantic in September. Please give us tips and facts about this ship. It'll help pass the time until we depart, and help raise the excitment level (if that's possible)!:D :D :D

It is the second of the C-class ships. Meaning it has a very similar layout to the Century. The ship is about 10% larger, but much of that size comes from an indoor pool with retractable roof at the back of the ship. Plus a deck that goes around the back of the ship. On the Century if you had an aft cabin you had a straight view to the ocean. Keep you drapes closed on the Galaxy as people may tend to look in. But the back deck is not well travel, so it's almost like having you own balcony. The colors on the Galaxy are a bit brighter than the Century, making the ship a little flashier. All and all she is a great ship with a great layout. We have sailed on her twice with a third planned. What other type of information would you like.

There is another post about the Galaxy ...do a search in these boards for Galaxy and it will pop up. I think the subject line reads "tell me all about the galaxy" of something like that.

We too are sailing her in May in the Med. for our honeymoon. Can't wait!!

We did not use the spa. But X does a great job with the spas, locating them at the frot of the ship for panoramic views of the ocena, My wife and I opt to use the stairs exclusively, while we can, and keep our weight gain to 1 or 2 pounds for 10 days. The food is excellent. One thing about Celebrity is the food quality is consistant. We have stayed on the Vista deck, 9001, and the Panorama, 8215 above the Casino and next to the elevators. We have never been bothered by noise from either location.

If you care to ask more questions, I'll be checking in. It's easier answering specific questions than telling you everything there is. Too much to tell and I don't want to bore.

We sailed on the Galaxy in March, and were extremely impressed with everything. Our cabin (Penthouse deck - #1011) had just been upgraded to Concierge Class, so the waiting, iced champagne, fresh fruit, and flowers were a treat, as well as the added amenities. The food was excellent, but more than exceptional was the staff. Our cabin steward lacked some initiative, but the wait staff, bar crew, and particularly the two photographers from Romania added the icing to the cake. We had a tour of the spa, but never found time to use it between the ports and activities on board. It is lovely though. The entertainment was very good, especially the magician. He actually gave a class for those interested, which was added plus. Although the Galaxy was a bit smaller that the ships we had been on before, we never found it difficult finding a chaise on deck. The buffets by the pool were a little unorganized, but certainly not through any fault of Celebrity. People just go a little "food crazy" and pay no attention to others around them.

Haappee! Haappee! No Cheesey Cheesey! (You'll understand once you have your pictures taken!)

Have a wonderful cruise!

we just got off the galaxy in rome in june. this was our third time, alaska in 99 and baltimore in 03. Use the Spa! in the casino is the best craps dealer i have ever played with manny from south africa. Diego from argentina is great also. for late evening go to michaels club for cigars/port/cognac/scotch. good movie theater. if you are lucky you will get yusef from turkey as your dining room waiter. loved the destinations especially naples, malta, and Ville Franc

Entertainment on board as dreadful as every other line i have ever been on. good wine selection and fairly reasonable pricing. if you use the internet on board make sure you understand the fee structure before you start.

did you use the spa? how was the food? what type of cabin and what deck were you on. we are on the panorama deck for august cruise as well.

Yes, we used the Spa - it's well worth the money, IMAO

Food was good, typical for Celebrity

Can't remember the deck, sorry - we were in a Balcony in Alaska, it was nice.

Loved Galaxy. I agree with Rick T. It is just the right size, neither too big nor too small and it is easy to find your way around.

I thought the decor was very nice. Light wood tones and some interesting modern artwork.

Highlights for me were the Thelassotherapy Pool (you must have at least one go in there. If you have a suite, it is free), the aft cafe area looking at the wake of the ship disappearing into the distance:cool: , nice airy dining room and the Stratoshere Lounge and Savoy Nightclub areas. Check them out. You also get a good view of sailaway from the top deck forward (this area is a topless sunbathing area). That doesn't read very well. I mean you get a good view of the sea etc;) Service when we sailed was impeccable.

A friend has just come back from Western Med and said the new "Elements" show was very good.

We can't wait to sail her again.

BTW, hi Garry!:)

Hi Phil! I knew you'd find this thread.;) Thanks everyone. This just makes me sooooo excited. I can't wait to go.:D

How was the music? My DH and I like to dance and listen to the band after the show (and maybe indulge a little). With 5 sea days, I'm sure we'll find time for that!

Tofubeast, thanks for posting that thread. I had forgotten about it!

I know www.cruiseclues.com has some great photo albums on line. I wish I could point you in the direction of mine, but unfortunately I signed up with Webshots and have been unable to download any of our trip so far (technically challenged!).

You will have a great time, I'm sure. Enjoy your experience and I look forward to hearing about it when you get back:cool:

We have sailed on the Galaxy twice. 1. Alaska in 2000 & 2. Baltimore to Quebec in 2003. We found it to be a very nice ship, not to big or not to small. You can get around very easy. The food was good, the help was great, the entertainment so-so. Having cruised 18 times we would rate the Galaxy as one of the best.

We will be sailing on the Galaxy out of Rome on 8/23. How do we get from the airport to the pier, if we don't use Celebrities services ???

On the return we plan on spending a few days in Rome. So, how do we get to Rome from the pier. And what part of Rome (hotel) is the best area to stay in???

I just returned from the Med on Galaxy and I loved it. The service onboard is what really makes this ship special. Everyone really puts forth the extra effort to make your trip special....especially liked the social hostess, Nicoletta and the cruise director, Dru...he's very amusing. The food in the Orion Resturant is very good, especially at dinner, tried breakfast and lunch a few times but preferred the buffet at those times. Loved the waffels in the buffet....delicious! Loved the french fries out by the pool area, but wasn't impressed with the buns on the hamburgers & hotdogs. Didn't ever use room service, so can't comment. Also liked the Almond croissants in the Java Cafe around 8:30 am! Did the Martini tasting the first night, but they choose the flavors for you.

So, many special ways of pampering that I noticed and appreciated...like the fresh water & ice served twice a day in the stateroom, the sorbet served poolside on seadays, the champagne greeting you as you board, the cool towels waiting for you as you return from port excursions, or handed out by the poolside (seems more on upper decks), and liked the padded chairs, although a scarce commodity on sea-days, and chair hogs abound unfortunately. Also, really appreciated the free shuttles offered by the ship in Dubrovnic & Mykonos, perhaps adding one to Athens and Messina would be nice. If anyone has any specific questions, let me know.

When was the cool towels given after the shore excursions? Was it when you returned to the ship? Were you able to take pool towels off the ship or did the steward leave them for you in the cabin?

Do you have to make reservations for the casual dining?

Thanks and cheers for now.
