Iv'e checked this years Itineraryand the docking location varies from time to time.

You can check for yourself here: http://www.cruisestockholm.com/#/calendar/4570804331

I too am trying to figure out where the Eurodam will be docking on 29 May. The link above no longer works and google can't find the base name either.

I used another link you provided and for the Eurodam it says:

BOJ1 FÖRTÖJNING PÅ STRÖMMEN

I compared it to the port info here: http://traveltrade.visitstockholm.com/Agents-manual1/Stockholm-Cruise/Port-information/

but couldn't match it up.

Can you help me?

Thank you.

Looks like your ship will be tendering.

boj = buoy

förtöjning =mooring

på = on

Strömmen = Strömmen bay

So, it appears that your ship will be moored at a buoy. You will be tendered to somewhere on Skeppsbron (Gamla Stan). Not bad at all. :)

It looks like this website hasn't been updated with the cruise ship schedule since 2012. The link is to 2011.

Here is the link to the Stockholm Port website with vessel names. The cruise ships are the "kryssningfartyg."

Right you are. I included the link for illustrative purposes (map) to show the approximate mooring of your ship. Sorry for the confusion. If you look on the site below:

http://traveltrade.visitstockholm.com/Agents-manual1/Stockholm-Cruise/Port-information/

"Piers in Stockholm

Mooring Bouy: Right in the Old Town. Walking distance to most shops and attractions."

and here (google translate):

http://www.stockholmshamnar.se/Karta/Lista-pa-trafik-fastigheter-etc/Kajplatser/BOJ1---Skeppsbron/

and here:

http://www.cruisebuzz.net/places/cruise-destinations/port-buzz-stockholm-sweden/

"Förtöjning På Strömmen - Ships using this option will have to tender as this is a mooring buoy."

BOJ1 FÖRTÖJNING PÅ STRÖMMEN is a mooring buoy. Your ship will definitely moor at the buoy. :)

I think that my plan will go something like this.

Walk around Gamla Stan ( Rick Steeves walk) (get into the nooks and crannies)

Nobel Musuem

Changing of the guard

City Hall for the view

then make reservation for 1:30 for the ICE BAR instead of doing the Vasa Musuem

Does that seem doable ? We are avid photographers so trying to make the best of our day.

Karen

Sorry for the late response, I missed this post.

Imo this seems doable, all of these places are fairly close to each other so it shouldn't require much time to get from one place to the next.

Also a comment regarding your draft itinerary at this post: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=41200023&postcount=1554

During the period of June 1st to August 31st, the Nobel museum opens atl 10.00 (10am). For the rest of the year it opens at 11.00.

It seems you already helped yourself. :)

The website that was in your quote will be back online closer to the start of the cruise season.

The owner had forgotten to pay the fee for the domain name.

Ok sorry for triple posting here but I just stumbled upon an article in The Local about food tours in Stockholm.

http://www.thelocal.se/20140122/food-tours-new-nordic-cuisine-stockholm-swedish

http://www.thelocal.se/galleries/Lifestyle/stockholm-food-tours/

There are too my knowledge two different food tours in Stockholm.

First there is Food tours Stockholm: http://www.foodtoursstockholm.se/index.php/en/

Reviews at Tripadvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.se/Attraction_Review-g189852-d3957661-Reviews-Food_Tours_Stockholm-Stockholm.html

and there is also

Stockholm Food Tours (They also have tours in Copenhagen): http://stockholm.foodtours.eu/

  • 2 weeks later...
I live in Stockholm and love all the cruiseships that are comming here all the summer.

Do you need any information about the town or transportation, just ask and I will try to answer....

Thanks so much for your offer of help!!!

We are flying into ARL in July and need to get to the cruise port. I believe that it is the Port of Stockholm, but am having trouble working out the real name.

I have read hear and on Tripadvisor that a taxi is around $90 and the train is not much cheaper. Do you know of any alternatives such as shuttle buses.

Thanks so much.

which company would you recommend

Taxi Stockholm, Taxi Kurir and Taxi 020.

I have made a couple of posts about Taxis in Stockholm but it seems that it's not possible to search the threads anymore.

Anyway it is very important that you look very carefully before you enter the taxi that it is from one of these companies

since there is a problem in Stockholm with unreliable freelancers that impersonates these companies.

The Freelancers will rip you off severely if you go with them.

Again I can't find my old post due to disabled search function but in the mean time if you browser back in the thread for the past 6-8 months you should be able to find those posts.

Also Stockholm has a very good public transport system which usually is sufficient enough to get around.

However I did find some articles:

http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Sweden/Stockholms_Laen/Stockholm-173634/Warnings_or_Dangers-Stockholm-Taxis-BR-1.html

http://www.svd.se/nyheter/stockholm/krafttag-mot-ockerpriser-i-taxibranschen_7083785.svd

http://www.alltomstockholm.se/stadsliv/article4084411.aos

http://www.alltomstockholm.se/stadsliv/article4060351.aos

http://www.alltomstockholm.se/stadsliv/article4060328.aos

@AussieVisi2r make sure go book/fly to ARN/ESSA/Arlanda and not ARL or you'll end up in Arly, Burkina Faso. ;)

Can someone please tell me if the entrance to the Royal Palace in Stockholm is on Skeppsbron? I appear to have finished up with two conflicting Google maps! Also, after we have visited the Palace, can we walk past the front of the Royal Armoury to reach Gamla Stan (and maybe the Cathedral too) as Google is sending us down a side road Bredgrand. After that we plan to visit the Nobel museum.

I'm finding it all quite confusing, but we do want to walk into the city from Stadsgarden and Skeppsbron does seem a more direct route to the Palace.

No the entrance to the palace is not on Skeppsbron but rather from the the western vault.

Take a look at this picture:

KS-teckning-Ingrid-Jonsson-.jpg

1. is where you buy tickets to get into the palace.

2. is where you enter the palace.

3. is where the changing of the guards take place.

4. is the Tre Kronor museum (about the old castle called Tre Kronor).

5. is Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities.

6. is the Royal treasury, the Royal Chapel and Rikssalen (southern vault facing Slottsbacken*) .

7. is the armoury (Livrustkammaren).

8. is a summer café.

From Stadsgårdskajen to the palace, going along Skeppsbron is a detour.

This is the walking route I would recommend:

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=%C3%96stra+Tegelviksslingan,+Stockholm,+Sverige&daddr=59.3172519,18.087771+to:J%C3%A4rntorget,+Stockholm,+Sverige+to:Stortorget+to:Storkyrkobrinken+to:H%C3%B6gvaktsterrassen+to:59.326554,18.073319&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&sll=59.326053,18.071249&sspn=0.003564,0.008256&geocode=FcoViQMdTSIUASk_lJXdA3hfRjG2ros5pBOagQ%3BFQMciQMdW_8TASnPtcHX-HdfRjHESJhe0fDrIw%3BFTwxiQMdwcQTASl1NgHX4ndfRjF3tmWq6LTdmA%3BFQM7iQMd574TAQ%3BFTQ-iQMdpbwTAQ%3BFbs-iQMd87gTAQ%3BFVpAiQMd58YTAQ&oq=Storto&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=5&sz=18&via=1&z=17

Going along Fjällgatan and Katarinavägen is maybe 4-5 min longer but well worth it compared to walking along the quite busy Stadsgårdsleden.

A. Is where your ship docks

B. Is a picturesque square called Järntorget

C. Is Tyska Kyrkan (this is not the cathedral)

D. is another picturesque square called Stortorget (this is where the Nobel museum is located).

E. is where you buy the tickets for the palace with the Cathedral just south of "E".

F. is where you enter the palace (via the Western vault at the inner end of the court yard)

G. is the Royal armoury.

*Slottsbacken connects Storkyrkobrinken and the Cathederal with Skeppsbron.

Can you tell me the best way to get from the Rica in Gamla Stan to the Vasa Museum? Is the HoHo boat the best way? If so, where would I get it and what would be the earliest we could board? We will go to the Vasa on Aug 8 and will be staying at the hotel the night before.

Thanks!!

Great route Desdichado62! But you missed indicating the German Church (Tyska Kyrkan) on the Google map so now Stortorget is C instead of D on the map , palace store is D instead of E etc.

Ok thanks, somehow Tyska kyrkan somehow disappeared from the map route, I'll fix it tomorrow.

Go with Djurgårdsfärjan. http://www.waxholmsbolaget.se/visitor/djurgarden-ferry/maps-ferry-terminals/

Both cash or card is accepted at the ticket booth but there is also a ticket machine in which you can use credit cards to buy tickets.

Stockholm card is not accepted.

From Hotel to Djurgårdsfärjan: https://maps.google.se/maps?saddr=Rica+Hotel+Gamla+Stan,+Rica+Hotel+Gamla+Stan,+Lilla+Nygatan+25,+111+28+Stockholm&daddr=Slussplan&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&ll=59.322347,18.073293&spn=0.004943,0.016512&sll=59.322142,18.073148&sspn=0.003495,0.008256&geocode=FbYyiQMdobkTASltuKEB43dfRjGykHXNNojfuw%3BFdktiQMd6MkTAQ&oq=R%C3%A4ntm&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=18&z=17

From Djugårdsfärjan to Vasa: https://maps.google.se/maps?saddr=Allm%C3%A4nna+gr%C3%A4nd,+Stockholm&daddr=59.3274061,18.0927002+to:Ok%C3%A4nd+v%C3%A4g&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&ll=59.327739,18.093758&spn=0.002471,0.008256&sll=59.327312,18.094643&sspn=0.004942,0.016512&geocode=FRg4iQMdtiAUASlZedvMqoJfRjG3adfcdf90HQ%3BFa5DiQMdnBIUASkpK61gVJ1fRjGa15F6EPNZvw%3BFf5EiQMdzRAUAQ&oq=Vasam&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=mrv&via=1&z=18

A is where the ferry docks and B is the start of the path on the side of the museum.

From B just continue along the right side of the drydock and go around it's tip to reach the entry to the museum.

Or you could walk through the naval cemetery called Galärvarvskyrkogården.

https://maps.google.se/maps?saddr=Allm%C3%A4nna+gr%C3%A4nd,+Stockholm&daddr=Ok%C3%A4nd+v%C3%A4g&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&ll=59.327831,18.095554&spn=0.000874,0.002064&sll=59.32773,18.095487&sspn=0.000874,0.002064&geocode=FRg4iQMdtiAUASlZedvMqoJfRjG3adfcdf90HQ%3BFVFFiQMdPR8UAQ&oq=Vasam&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=20&z=20

However if I remember it correctly the entry/exit on the museum side of it is via fairly steep stair case.

is there any promo code that will enable me to purchase the stockholm card at a discounted price?

Last year, I found an EXPEDIA promotion which gave me a discount on advance purchase of STOCKHOLM CARD vouchers. I think it was 10%. It is not currently available, but you could watch for it. When we arrived at the airport, we redeemed the vouchers.

We chose to pay for the Flygbussarna Airport Coach into Stockholm, and started the clock on our cards for transportation and the sights the next day.

Yes. It looks like there are Stockholm Visitors Board Centers at each of the ports as well as the Arlanda Airport (where we got ours) and in Central Stockholm.

The Arlanda Center is open 24 hrs. The ports have limited hours.

Do you need any information about the town or transportation, just ask and I will try to answer....

Hi there-

We're booked on the Legend of the Seas (11 days cruise ending at Stockholm) and will be docked at Stockholm on June 28 (stay over) and then disembark on June 29, 2014. I'm having trouble finding out where in Stockholm we will be docked (someone on CC roll call mentioned Frihamnen). I need to know what kind of public transportation there might be to get us from the dock to Gamla Stan.

Second, I need some suggestions for where to stay on June 29 that would be convenient to see a little more of Stockholm and afford easy transportation (public preferably) to the airport ARN on June 30 morning (flight at 10am). We've been to Stockholm just once (a beautiful city) 7 years ago, but we took the train to Copenhagen then. This time we'll be flying out of Stockholm and would like to situate ourselves for the flight out.

Thanks for your help!

-Victor
