New to Regent Seven Seas - Navigator

Recommended Posts

We are new to Regent Seven Seas and have some typical "newbie" questions so I apologize up front. However, any suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated. :D

So far we are looking at the 10 days cruises out of Miami: January 27th, February 6th, or Feburary 26th. We might consider a Window Suite, but actually prefer a suite that has a veranda / balcony to enjoy during the day and particularly at night.

It's been over 2 years and we are eager to get back on the seas. Our previous cruises have been in cabins with balconies (250sq + balacony) up to Penthouses (1500sq + veranda).

On the Regent Navigator, which deck is most desirable and which is the least? We have sailed bow and stern and middle so there is no issue with sea sickness. A few things we definately avoid if at all possible: areas above or below restaurants, casinos, and theatres. I imagine there won't be many children on these cruises but we avoid the teen club areas as well. I also would not like near the laundry room or near elevators.

Boy, do I sound picky or what!!!!???? LOL  Tom and I are easy travelers and really want a wonderful relaxing cruise.

Looking forward to all ideas / suggestions / recommendations, and hope to be booking a cruise very soon.

Thanks to all. Happy Cruising.

Hi Kruz Guys, and welcome to the Regent boards! And no, you are not being picky at all!:) This is the go-to place for information!

We have been on the Navigator 3 times. As far as decks go, we were on 6, 8, and 10, and had a balcony each time. If you opt for a balcony suite, they are identical in size, 356 sq. feet including balcony (unless you go for a Navigator Suite or higher.) If having a butler is important to you, then you would have to book a penthouse category or higher. (but again, the suites are no larger.) There is a vibration aft, so you might want to book forward of the elevators. Some people are bothered by the vibration; others, not at all. The suites have wonderful bathrooms and walk-in closets. There is no smoking in suites or on balconies.

With a capacity of 490 guests, you will find that the Nav is an intimate, relaxing ship. No lines, no noise, few or no children. We have found the food to be excellent, as well as the service. The staff simply are wonderful; I can't say enough good things about them.

If you are used to the mega-ships, be advised that you will find the Navigator to be limited in scope as far as "activities"---no rock-climbing walls, belly-flop contests, stuff like that (thankfully!....however, you will find congenial, mostly well-traveled guests who are friendly and outgoing. (oh, maybe an occasional curmudgeon, but that happens anywhere!) You can be as sociable, or not, as you like. We enjoy quietly reading on our balcony, as well as heading up to the pool area or any of the lounges and meeting new-found friends.

If you choose to cruise on the Navigator, I hope you like it as much as we do. After our first cruise with Regent, we've never looked back!

I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions.

Everything Sheltieluv said!

Also I would not worry about having a suite near the elevator on Regent. I have had these on all three Regent ships and never had a problem. The first time I was a little worried there might be noise, but truthfully, it is very quiet almost always. And the suites are pretty well sound proofed. Occasionally you may hear a toilet flush, but it is rare.

Would not worry about being near the laundry rooms either for the same reason. Plus they are closed at night.

No kids club to worry about on the cruises you are selecting.

I would avoid anything aft of the back elevators due to vibration on Navigator, but you may not mind. I actually don't mind, but my husband does.

Would also avoid under the pool deck as you can get noise from chairs being moved early in the am.

I do recommend a balcony suite on the Caribbean cruises just because you will want to get out and use it. On our Canada cruise, I only sat out on the balcony once, but it was nice to have the floor to ceiling light inside the suite.

Want to repeat what Rachel said about aft suites. There is a noisy vibration in the aft portion of the Navigator. At times it isn't too bad but it is best to avoid that area completely (IMO). Our favorite deck on the Navigator is deck 8 -- forward of the elevators. This seems to always be a nice, quiet deck.

On our first Navigator cruise last year we were on Deck 9 and that's just where we have booked for our March cruise. We have been warned repeatedly about aft cabins and will heed everyone's advice.

We had a lovely time over last Thanksgiving, no children, crew was exceptional, ate several times in Pinnacle, enjoyed the tours--I do run on but it was lovely. A nice cross section of passengers made for some nice conversations as well.

I am very sure you will enjoy your trip--plan to spend some time in Miami on the front end as well or come to this side of the state(Naples) and enjoy a change of scenery.

All of your replies have been great! Thank you so much for the information. I've heard so many good things about Regent and hope that we can work it out to go in January or February. Will know more middle of December. Anyway, thanks again.

Happy Cruising to all. And Happy Thanksgiving!

For those who have used Regent Air and the pre-cruise hotel package, did you find it helpful and worth it? We can use miles to get RT business class on Continental from Houston to Miami, and would probably stay at the Marriott Biscayne Bay the night before sailing.

However, if we can get good a good flight IAH-MIA (I know it's coach but for a 3 hour flight that would be no biggie) then we could save the miles. Do you know what hotel(s) Regent uses for the pre-cruise night?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Happy T-Day tomorrow!

Krus Guys - The January 27 cruise is the second segment of our b2b. We book our own air but the precruise hotel Regents is providing is the Biltmore.

Good to know about the hotel. I'll have to check it out. Thanks. :-)

Happy Holidays!

Welcome! We were originally booked on the 2/6 cruise, but we transferred our booking. Regent’s Free Air Offer is an effective marketing ploy but they're not really giving you “Free” Airfare. You may want to do your own air. I do think you should book and come in the day prior to the ship’s departure.

I've been doing some research and it appears it would be better to do my own air and hotel - that's how I'm leaning at the moment.

Thanks for your information. Always good to hear opinions from those who have done this before.

We have been on 9 twice on the Navigator - once in a Navigator suite for a crossing and once in a PH suite (which is the same, spacewise, as all the other suites but has a Butler). Of the two I much prefered the PH suite. Even though the Nav. suite has a separate bedroom it is so tiny that you can hardly move around the bed! And teh bathroom does not lead off the bedroom, it is off the sitting room (so is the closet) so that it not great design either. PH suite is spacious and comfortable.

I personally would not get a suite near the laundry rooms. Too much "chit chat" going on in and outside the door of the laundry almost all day long. And never aft. Neither on the Navigator nor the Voyager. (Mariner is fine. We had a Seven Seas Aft suite on our last cruise and the only time we had vibration was when docking or sailing when the stern thrusters were being used...) Navigator shakes like a jelly in the stern!

On balance I much prefer Voyager OR Mariner to the Navigator because they are bigger, have more dining options etc. Also I do not like the "lounge" associated with the theatre mainly because people can smoke there...

We are on the Jan 27 sailing. Got a great deal on airfare to FLL so we will make our way to doubletree biscane bay from there. Coming in a few days early to get the deal plus we can explore Miami.

Which lounge associated with the theater are you thinking of? The one you need to walk through to get to the theater is non smoking. There is a designated smoking lounge in a room with a closed door, next to the lounge that serves coffee. (Next to the lounge you are thinking of--I think!)

Unless it has changed, Stars Lounge (outside of the theater) allows smoking on one side and is non-smoking on the other.

Indeed it has not changed and one side is still smoking. In fact I can't detect smoke in the non smoking side when someone is puffing away around the corner. The same cannot be said for the Connosieurs Club, next to the Navigator lounge, where smoke wafts up and down the hallway and into the Lounge and the library every time the CC door is opened. The area around the Navigator lounge, when the smokers are at it particularly in the evening, is to me almost unusable.

No wonder we didn't ever have a drink in there!! I must have held my breath as I walked though it. Seems strange to allow smoking in there AND have an additional smoke filled lounge right next to it. Now that I think of it, that's where the people who used the tables as footstools (shoeless) hung out!!

Hi Kruz Guys!

Welcome!

We sailed on Navigator in February 2012 from FLL on a 10 day cruise.

We were Princess cruisers before, but decided to try Regent.

As it turned out, it was the probably the best cruise we ever had in many different ways.

We had suite 1004, with a Butler. It was very nice.

Just noticing your avatar and names, you probably have the same questions as us, as to two guys travelling together on a small ship.

All I can say that it was wonderful and we met many new friends and had an awesome time.

The type of cruiser that Regent attracts are usually very well-helled and very open minded. We blended right in.

If you need more information, please PM me.

We just might see you on board.

Best regards,

Carl and Brett

Thanks for your information. Sounds like your trip was fantastic. Hope to be making plans in the near future (probably a Feb or early March cruise). :D
