sandraowen Posted March 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Has anyone been on one of the Iceland Pro cruises. Some feed back would be great with regard to the best shore excursions, and what life on board was like.
Rare Essiesmom Posted March 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2015 I assume you are talking about the circumnavigation? Looks quite interesting. I have never heard of them, you might ask on the Other Cruise Lines board here at CC, under Cruise Lines A-O. If you decide to go, plan to spend at least a day, maybe two in Rekjavik, and pland a visit to the Blue Lagoon (you;ll need your swimsuit for that). mittenscat23 Posted June 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Has anyone been on one of the Iceland Pro cruises. Some feed back would be great with regard to the best shore excursions, and what life on board was like. I have to review my cruise on Iceland Pro cruises Ocean Diamond on the message Board as there is NO OPTION to do this on the main page! http://www.icelandprocruises.com/ We wanted to tour Iceland and only unpack once. We wanted to see as much as possible but have a guarantee of a place to sleep and meals. Iceland is very expensive. After an internet search I found Iceland ProCruises. Exactly what we were looking for! The cruise circumvents Iceland They were very responsive to all my many emails with a wide variety of questions answered. Iceland Pro will also work with your travel agent if you prefer to book this way. The ship is a small ship designed for exotic locations such as Antarctica and Greenland. It is older and is in the process of updating. We had a window cabin (we got upgraded from lower porthole..nice!) The cabin was large, newly renovated and the beds comfortable. The room had good storage space. Although the ship was dated in places (the elevators were the size of a small closet) it was one of the cleanest ships I have ever been on. The staff from the excursion team to the room stewards were very helpful. The main languages on the ship were English and German so every presentation was in both languages. We even got a brief course in Icelandic. The ship is very casual so no dressy clothes needed. Jeans are just fine for dinner. Because the ship is very small (max approx. 200 passengers) it was so easy to check in and get on and off at the various ports. We had a port stop every day. They offered really neat Zodiac rides (included) that allowed us to see amazing sites especially in the Westman Islands...wow! We took some of the ships tours (VERY GOOD) and also did some private ones on our own. I loved the big bag lunches they packed for us every day that we were not going to make it back to the ship for lunch. Iceland is the most beautiful place. It is safe, extremely clean and the people amazing. I think it is the place that everyone wants to visit now and we heard in the summer months it can be quite busy. We went May 24 to June 2...weather cool, but just fine. Bring lots of layers (hat and gloves) as in one day the weather can change many times...LOL Any specific questions you can e mail me...degrel at rogers dot
aquilegia Posted June 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2016 The Ocean Diamond sailed down the Bristol Channel past my house a few weeks ago. Up till then, I'd never heard of Iceland Pro cruises but I must say from the outside it looked a very attractive well-maintained little ship. veryseasonedtraveler Posted June 10, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 10, 2016 Definitely do not take the HOHO bus while Reykjavik. We use them everywhere, but this one is terrible. When the bus finally arrived in the morning, everyone from the ship piled on. The sound system on the top didn't work. They only had one bus for the route, so wait times once you got off were way too long. Would suggest you take an excursion to Vik. Excellent scenery. pmjnh Posted July 12, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) I am about to book on the Ocean Diamond for next summer. Can you tell me what hotels might be in the vicinity of the pier where you board the Ocean Diamond with Iceland Pro-cruises? Thank you, Joan Edited July 12, 2016 by pmjnh
Nitemare Posted July 12, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Do you know which pier they use? There are many places to dock a ship of that size in the Reykjavik area. No matter which pier, though, you aren't more than a 10 minute taxi from the ship. If you plan to stay in Reykjavik before or after your cruise you should chose a hotel based on what's near it, not being near the ship which would likely have you away from the better hotels, and from the restaurants and shops.
