If this doesn't get you booking on MSC....

Is it true that they nickel and dime you to death? To the point that they will not serve you a glass of tap water in the dining room-they make you buy a bottle of water?

Yes, you pay extra for many things, like a decent cup of coffee - they serve swill in the buffet.

Never felt pressured to buy water at dinner, they poured tap when asked.

I posted the video simply because I got a "kick" out of it, love the Italians & have sailed MSC 3x. I've been on every type of ship & line from Queens Grill QE2(heavenly) to an inside on RCCL Majesty of the Sleaze(talk about a garbage barge).

If I was looking into MSC I would scared off by the revues on these boards also - but alas do you believe everything you read????

I first sailed on the OPERA in the carib --I thought I would try this line based on it being Italian. I loved the ship's size(not a fan of the mega ships / malls built these days). The per diem was in line with what I would of paid if I booked w/ HAL for the same cruise - a 7 day Eastern Carib in February sailing out of FT Lauderdale(high season).

The ship was immaculate - inclusive of my cabin.

Food - I'm not a fan of buffets - I ate dinner in the dining room each night & the food was similar in quality to HAL & Cunard --but the pasta, salads & special Italian dishes were spot on. The fresh pizza was delicious --so that, a salad & a glass of vino made lunch a couple of days.

The service was fine all around - I do not really care if I meet my cabin steward as long as I have every thing I need & the cabin is clean. The dining room was busy and I enjoyed the dinners - the international passengers & crew always made it fun. And the desserts made it all worth while.

Entertainment surpassed HAL, RCCL & NCL - there was something for everyone & taste. One fun area was the main staircase where various artists & acts performed - so in the evening the several decks that surround the "piazza" would be filled w/ passengers enjoying whatever was going on & each other. Later everyone would disperse all over the ship for shows, casino, dancing & disco. It certainly was the liveliest ship I had been on in years.

There are plenty of areas for peace & quiet also. My balcony was wonderful - yes really for 1 or 2 is fine- 3 or 4 in the cabin is tight.

My partner & I would sail w/ MSC 2 more times - same time of year on Lirica and he enjoyed it just as much as I did & loved even more w/ my partner & sharing all the laughs etc. And people dressed as if they were going out to dinner - I am actually embarrassed seeing how people dress onboard the last few years.

VALUE - cruises on the DIVINA were being sold for ridiculously inexpensive tariffs - 7 days balcony cabin for less than $399 w/ children 3rd 4th passengers free!!! And I've read on these boards everything from the balcony being to "tight"(they had 2 kids w/ them) to 2 hours was too long for dinner( a multi course dinner usually takes a least 1.5 hours). Someone else was angry because the other passengers did not speak English(his point being they were in the USA) HINT - It's an Italian Line. If your idea of a vacation going to Mall of America - this line is not for you. For $800 a couple in a balcony cabin with all the food & services offered -you couldn't get a room in the Poconos for 7 days or a stay in Mexico(either coast) eating beans & tacos all week. As far as the bottled water - its European custom!

I've been fortunate to have travelled all over the world - staying in beautiful hotels & eating in famous restaurants - living here in NYC permits me to try any cuisine imaginable. My love is the sea & all I know for 3 weeks onboard the MSC ships I was happy with a slice a pizza & Compari & soda..at all hours of the day & nite....

So try the line - you might like & say Ciao Bello to that handsome man walking your way!

I expect that Rotterdam paints a fair picture of the MSC experience. I have only been on MSC for the RSVP Divina cruise earlier this year and it was not a typical cruise for the ship and its staff. Food and service left a lot to be desired. But I did enjoy the ship a lot. And I loved what RSVP did, as usual.

I sail in about 4 weeks.....ready to see the ship and hopefully have an international passenger mix.

I figure if I can handle ships like the Odysseus, the Regency Spirit and the Stella Solaris, then the Divina should be fine. My issue is that it is sooooo big. I do not like big ships...no size queen here. But the industry is set on bigger and bigger ships. I just hope there is some eyetalian eye candy onboard.

MSC....I have more concerns about sailing NCL's Getaway in late November than the Divina. The offerings at sea continually move away from what I like......and I may have to start considering something like the Wind Surf in the future.

So MSC.......get your eyetalian on for me........break out the extra virgin olive oil, rub some garlic on everything and let me savor the moment. If it turns out to be a bomb.......at least I will be at sea.

Never again MSC, we loved the old ships Monterrey and Melody, but after a teribble trip with MSC Poesia we decided never to sail with them again. Terrible food and service. Ship was going to drydock after our trip and 3 days before the end of the cruise they closed all shops, sauna etc. Been on over 35 cruises and this worst trip ever.

Well, I'm sailing the Divina again but only because it's costing $372. as a single. Like everyone else is saying, beautiful ship but little else to recommend. Only remember one sexy Italian crew member. He gave the Italian lessons on the sea days. But most of them (except for the ship's officers) are not from Italy.

My partner and I tentatively booked the Divina for January 11, 2016, but have been slightly apprehensive. We are (OK, I am) not fans of megaships, and we like the somewhat elegant laid back surroundings of HAL. But no one seems to have an itinerary that interested us for next January, except MSC.

We have have read the reviews, and some things intrigue us, and some things scare us. But the price seemed right, and we have a bitching balcony, to boot.

Your review, and one from Cruiseguys2009, has made us feel a bit better about the ship, the line, and sailing as a gay couple on a line with which we are

not familiar.

So, we will take a gamble, I think.

Thanks!
