Watch Shopping

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've heard St Maarten is one of the best places for Duty Free shopping, does anyone who's been recall if they had any shops selling Rolex Watches? Wanted on for ages but things keep coming up when I get the money :( if they were cheaper I'd have a better chance hahaha

Thanks

P.s real ones obviously :)

There are many places in Phillipsburg (the cruise port) which sell "Rolex" watches, but it is uncertain how many are genuine. The only authorized Rolex dealer on the island is Goldfingers - with two shops in Marigot. It may be that other stores in both Phillipsburg and Marigot sell the genuine article, but unless you are sufficiently expert to tell the difference, you will be taking your chances. Additionally, you face the risk (admittedly slight) of confiscation if you bring a counterfeit into the U.S.

If you are seriously interested in a real Rolex, your best bet is to get prices from a reputable dealer at/near home for several models you are interested in so you can compare prices at Goldfingers in Marigot.

Goldfinger also has three shops in downtown Philipsburg. One is dedicated to Tag Heuer.

Regarding the confiscation of counterfeit items, the Customs and Border Protection might disagree with the above blanket statement.

Directly from their brochure Know Before you Go (Page 50):

However, travelers arriving in the United States may

be permitted an exemption and allowed to import one

article of each type, which must accompany the person,

bearing a counterfeit, confusingly similar or restricted

gray market trademark, provided that the article is for

personal use and is not for sale.

This exemption may be granted not more than once

every 30 days. The arriving passenger may retain one

article of each type accompanying the person. For

example, an arriving person who has three purses,

whether each bears a different infringing trademark, or

whether all three bear the same infringing trademark,

is permitted only one purse. If the article imported

under the personal exemption provision is sold within

one year after the date of importation, the article or its

value is subject to forfeiture.

There are many reasons to avoid purchasing counterfeit / knock-off items like watches and purses, but the fear of confiscation doesn't have to be one of them.

Thanks guys, there's no way I'll risk buying a fake so that's not a worry even so I'm English so our guys probably won't have a clue :)

I've checked out the website and it's the same as England, no prices, no stock they must order them direct.

Thanks

Totally off-subject, and I apologize for that, but since you're here right now, could you recommend a private hire car from Dover seaport to Sutton? I'm looking at booking TotallyDriven (.com)

Thanks,

The Rolex web site only identifies the Marigot Goldfingers as authorized dealers - do the Phillipsburg Goldfingers carry Rolex?

I've bought 2 watches over the years from Goldfingers on Front Street without any issues, although they were not Rolexes.

They have a Rolex boutique in the back of one of their stores. When I checked prices there last March they were almost the exact same as what was available from the Rolex dealers in the States, with the only savings being sales tax (which in Texas at over 8% is significant).

I don't know about prices in England, but I would try to figure out the model I wanted and get firm prices on it before I left home and then compare at Goldfingers.

Good Luck!
